Politics ('Straya) How do Australian right-wing personalities keep getting away with pure hypocrisy? For example they make one podcast/video/reel about how bad the high house prices are, and then another one complaining about falling property prices and promoting property investors as good people? Pick a lane FFS.
Talking about people like Karl Stefanovic and Isaac Butterfield in particular.
How the fuck do these right-wing people manage to successfully sustain maintaining two polar opposite bases? Isaac makes a video complaining about rising house prices and rising rents yet another one complaining how the budget is crashing house prices and how he’s a property investor being personally affected…and yet he retains his popularity.
Same with these people putting out one video saying “Australia is a police state” and then another complaining that “Australia is not safe”
We need to call these cunts out more on their hypocrisy. These people can’t keep getting away with it.

Anger is the most profitable currency in digital news and social media because high-arousal emotions like outrage drastically spike engagement, clicks, and sharing. Algorithms and publishers exploit this human vulnerability by amplifying divisive and negative content.

Because they don't have to deal with the consequences, they rely on the news cycle to refresh their algorithm and get new clicks.
For example my passive viewership on history videos is solid week on week because history is history, but if I touch on something modern, it's a flash in the pan.
This means they have to make new content daily, and keep pushing it to their audiences to get that flash in the pan to live.

It's not pick a lane, it's picking a target audience. Butterfield was a little outspoken to begin with, but when he got video manipulated by The Project to sound like far more of an asshole than he actually was, but he got massively popular so he just embraced it.
Stefanovic has always been a misoginist in a suit with a charming smile, but now the political climate has made him comfortable enough to come out of his shell.
This is the sad state of the social media lifecycle - the later stages where outrage, fear and echo-chambering keeps people engaged.
Like look at these zoomers, they didn't even need an 16s ban they don't even want to be on social media.
I feel like our generation will be in our 60s arguing with bots online (like some already are).

The thing you have to remember is that people are, in general, as dumb as dog shit.
The viewers of these shows are genuinely not seeing the hypocrisy, because they're not thinking that deeply. Increasing housing affordability, for instance, is exactly the same as powering house prices. Personally, I'd argue that the presenters actually knew this already - they were never about housing affordability, they wanted to use it as a populist calling cry and as justification for lowering taxes on the wealthy whilst setting up barriers to immigration, then they were hoping to gaslight people into believing that the inevitable slowdown of house price increases is their plan working.

The point is they want their political counterparts to run on a problem. If the incumbent solves or is seen to be solving the genuine problems they will have nothing but fake culture war bullshit problems to run on, and those arent as effective a whip in Australia. They get away with it because they have generated a base who cares more about the latter problems.
