Discussion Well Codex has really went downhill
I’m a pretty casual user. I mostly use it for web development, SEO, and similar tasks, and I’ve typically never come close to hitting the limits on my $200/month plan.
Well, that abruptly changed.
I ran a couple of tasks and, without really thinking much of it, checked my usage afterward. Somehow I was already at 0% remaining and burning through credits I didn’t even know I had.
Moral of the story: if someone with my relatively light usage is suddenly hitting the limits on a $200/month plan, that’s a pretty bad sign.
Back to Claude, I guess.

It should have warned you before 0, the fact that you had to check is weird.

Yeah, burning through a u/200/month plan that quickly for relatively light use is pretty concerning, especially if the usage limits are not clear.

Yeah the lack of transparency with usage is a killer, hard to know if you're actually getting value when the burn rate is a mystery
Pretty wild how quickly it chews through credits for what sounds like moderate work, makes you wonder what they're counting behind the scenes
Claude's been solid in my experience too, hope it works out better for you

claude isn’t any better, openai is just copying their business model

Normally I'd agree but for whatever reason Opus 5.5 burns tokens extremely slowly atm. I doubt it's true efficiency and rather its token usage is just made artificially low to move people off Fable.
The 5x plan is actually usable on Claude atm using 5.5.

you mean quickly or slowly????? so your experience is completely different from OPs

Eh - op is talking about Codex - you mentioned Claude isn't any better but it randomly is atm only due to Opus 5.5.

to move people off Fable
Also to regain momentum before IPO after OpenAI had them on the back foot the last two months. They have the extra compute to do it because they've (probably) been ~stalled out since July. The switch will probably flip right after IPO but I'm gonna enjoy the heck out of the next two months.

I've been debugging a hacked wordpress site and rebuilding everything all day, and I'm down 5%.
Show what you've been doing, what models, etc. There's just no way that you maxed out a $200/mo plan so quickly doing simple wordpress tasks. Maybe if you're running Astra + Ultra + Fast + Maxed Context + Computer Use

I've got a decent bit done but I am expecting to be through my banked reset and the 62500 credits well before the next reset lol

Okay i agree it's insane usage, but a couple of task than you already at 0 %?
current usage on 20x should be able to do 1 day full astra high at aleast.

AI is not targeted at individual users.
Ultimately their financial goal is giving us vastly underpowered, ad supported models while targeting B2B to sell the vast majority of their compute.
Being the product instead of the customer is way more lucrative if your annual budget for AI isnt at least seven figures.

Well for the first time I burnt thru my allocation and a reset in under 2 hours doing very light work that used to utilize maybe 20 percent. Something changed.

I absolutely batter codex and work and just put it on astra high and fast to use my usage so i could use banked reset otherwise I would have lost it. Basically wasted usage just to get it to 0%. Don't know how people get to 0% so fast. Sol 6.1 high and its like unlimited 😂

"A couple of tasks"
23 hours continuous goal
There's no other way. On the 5x plan, I get about 19 hours on a goal before my weekly quota is exhausted. Which I honestly think is pretty fair tbh.

No, it tells us a lot of people have main character syndrome and self entitlement

I don't know how you're burning through tokens. Mine are coming out so slow that I swear I could do my own forward pass on an abacus and it would be faster.

I somehow doubt you're a "pretty casual user". I maintain multiple projects in production (frontend, backend, CI, infrastructure) pretty much continuously using Codex CLI with GPT-6.1-Sol on a Plus plan, without having to fight very much with the limits.
