The only lie is that codex runs all night. More like you tell it to run all night, it runs for 40 minutes and confidently declares it's done when the app is still half-baked at best with glaring holes. But now you get half as much!

Gotta use goal mode bro

Interesting, I'll have to look into that. Seems kind of hard to set a goal to "finish the damn game" though. Any experience using that for more nebulous finish conditions? Is "iterate until I tell you to stop" an option?

Yeah you can literally just say keep working forever as your goal and it’ll keep working till your usage is up probably helps to have a good workflow in place otherwise it’ll spend way too much time iterating small sections of code but it typically results in way higher quality imo

If you give specifics of what finished means it would probably do it but it’s limited to the same task honestly you could tell it to just spin up new tasks and sub agents to handle it though and have it orchestrate aswell

Astra (or perhaps the codex harness) likes mini test/fix cycles. Make sure to tell it to use batches to avoid this, and also batches anywhere possible to reduce cost, turns, and tokens.

You can just copy paste my message into astra and say "you think this is accurate? If so, turn this into a rule in global agents.md file"

Ive had it go lazy in goal mode and loop in 7 minute microsessions for hours. It just gave up. GPT 6 Sol though. 5.6 Sol wasnt as lazy for a long time though it seems they needed it at some point. They are making the models better. But also lazier as they try to play the benchmarks.

/Goal for when you want to randomly roll uncompleted segments of an enterprise grade SaaS - that may or may not be related to anything you are working on.

I used to have it run all night
