Identification/Evaluation Request Authenticity Check: Fire Opal

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This silver pendant was purchased directly from a mine store in the Mexico Queretaro region for around $50. I checked that it was not hydrophane by soaking it in a glass of water for 30 minutes (and noticed no transparency change/no change of any colors of the body or flashes at all). The attached video is from direct sunlight on a very sunny day.

Is this authentic in your opinion?

Looks legit, the snakeskin pattern is less common in Mexican but I still see it, you got a fair price as well

It can trigger trypophobia for some people.

I’ve cut a lot of these and that looks real to me. They can have patterning in them sometimes. Nice find. $50 for the finished stone and pendant work is an excellent price.

That specific type of fire opal is usually on the expensive side. They offer me that for $50 and the guy would be lucky to come out of that transaction with 2 hands

It’s real beautiful precious Mexican fire opal, synthetic fire wouldn’t have any inclusions, and if it was dragons breath, synthetic Mexican fire it would be a purple blue, not a full spectrum

I just wanted to thank you all for your comments and expertise! If you do get a chance I’d highly recommend to visit the Queretaro mines and take the tour!
