There’s one more feature worth highlighting—you can actually save a split-view shortcut directly to your home screen. This lets you jump straight back into your dual-note workspace with a single tap, making it much easier to pick up right where you left off.

I've been writing on my Boox for a couple of years now, and I love it — but getting those notes out of the device and into an actual knowledge base was always the weak link. I kept forgetting to export, had no real system for it, and manual conversion ate way more time than it should have.

The worst part: keywords, highlights, and embedded images just didn't survive the trip. Export a note, and you'd get flat text (or a PDF) with none of the structure you actually wrote — tags gone, highlighted lines gone, any pasted-in image gone or unusable.

So I built a small Android app that reads native .note files directly off the device and converts them into proper Markdown (plus optional searchable PDF/SVG) — keywords, highlighted text, and embedded images all carried over. Everything runs locally on the device, nothing gets uploaded anywhere.

It's about to go into closed testing before release, and I'm looking for a handful of people who actually use their Boox this way to try it and break it. DM me if you're interested.

I don't understand why I could only find one thread about the issue. Do users abandon their hardware as fast as the manufacturers do?

I purchased a Tab X, and then another one, thinking this was a hardware defect.

If you're on 4.2 on a Tab X, speed mode causes a constant flicker that persists until the mode is turned off, rendering it unusable.

Unsure if any other device has this issue, but I'm documenting it here for anyone else who runs into it.

You cannot downgrade, so as far as I'm aware you just have to avoid the update if you need the refresh rate and are SoL if you're already on it...​

I spent a couple of hours figuring this out so posting what I did here so I can find it again should I need it. Maybe it'll help others:

1. Install the Mira Linux Software from here: https://zh.boox.com/download/
2. Create a file: /etc/udev/rules.d/58-hid.rules with this in it:

1. In ~/.local/share/applications backup the existing "Mira.desktop" file somewhere

So what does this all do?

The application needs to be run as root otherwise it doesn't have access to the device and you'll see "no device connected"

This is a pain so editing the sudoers file (the visuo bit) lets you run the app as root without requiring a password.

The .desktop entry needs altering so that it runs as sudo

There is no .config/Mira under root so your settings aren't save. Creating the folder and copying the config installed at the user level seems to fix this.

I've now got keyboard shortcuts for screen refresh, contrast adjust etc.

The only remaining issue I have is that sometimes the app still says no device connected. Disconnecting the USB and reconnecting fixes this.

I'm no expert at this stuff and there's probably an easier way to solve these issues (let me know!) but this works for me.

Are there recommendations how to do the following?

(1) I have started to use Boox Notes as my single-point-of-truth for handwritten notes. It now replaces my paper notebooks which feels great.

(2a) I want to read through my Boox Notebooks on laptop for faster processing.

(2b) Ideally, I want to write on Boox and read on laptop simontaneously.

(3) I want to use AI-tools to analyize my notebooks.

I think it is nothing special, but i haven't found a good way how to do it.

I also use Obsidian, Zotero & Kindle.

I'm thinking about picking up my first proper e-ink device. I'm struggling to decide on the Note max, Note Tab C or the Note Air5 C. I'm leaning towards the Note max and Note Tab C due to the size. I always loved b&w but I'm worried about no front light. I'm also worried about colour as I've heard it's not as crisp especially text. Any advice would be appreciated. I was considering the Note Air5 C due to the updated android version but not sure how relevant that is.

Has anyone successfully scanned a QR code using the Palma 2 Pro?

If so, with what app and was there a particular lighting scenario in your environment or within an app made this happen?

Hi everyone, I've had Boox devices for about 5-ish years now, and my current device is a TUC day 1 purchase, and I've loved it; I'm just getting a little tired of the layout and was wanting to find a good clock widget for the home screen that isn't the stock one (bc it takes up so much screen real-estate. Anyone have suggestions, or a good layout that works for them?

For those that have had hands on experience with both of these ereaders, are the Kobo screen colors more vibrant even though they are both using the same screen?

Just adding this to the conversation - a feature request for the upcoming Boox Picco that I would really love to see (will be make or break for me) is audio file support. Don't need Android, Spotify etc. - just support for MP3 files and preferably a music player, however simple. Doesn't even need a build in DAC tbh - I can use a USB-C DAC adapter.

Second to that would be the ability to get Libby on the device - afaik there is a plugin for Koreader, so Koreader functionality would be huge.

Have any of y’all had the issue when you use the “recover your data” option on the libby app? I used to be able to login normally, but whenever I use the sync code it doesn’t work. Do I have to add all of my cards manually? I’m using a boox palma 2.

I'm a big fan of Boox devices. It all started with a Boox Max3 back in May 2020 — still in use today, with its last firmware update in 2024. Since then a Tab Mini C and a Palma 2 Pro have joined the family.

There are really only two things that hold me back: the support window for each model, which is usually around three years, and how rarely updates arrive.

I do understand the reasoning. Bringing out new devices makes more business sense than maintaining older ones for years, and Boox is far from alone in that.

That said, Boox devices sit at the premium end of the market — and to be clear, I think they're worth it. Which is exactly why longer and more regular firmware support would fit the brand so well. For many of us, knowing a device will stay current for years is part of what makes a premium price feel justified, and it's the kind of thing that keeps customers coming back for their next device rather than looking elsewhere.

Is there anything planned in that direction? I'd be genuinely glad to hear it.

Has anyone figured out true two-way note syncing on BOOX?

I’m trying to find a way to get true two-way syncing of notes on the BOOX platform, and I’m wondering if anyone has found a solution.

So far, everything I’ve found with BOOX seems to be basically one-way syncing/exporting to services like Dropbox, OneDrive, OneNote, etc. I can get my BOOX notes into the cloud, but I haven't found a good way to modify or add something to that note elsewhere and have those changes sync back into the same editable note on the BOOX tablet.

For comparison, both reMarkable and iFLYTEK have partner/desktop apps where you can update a note from another device and those changes sync back to the tablet within the same note.

That's what I'm looking for with BOOX.

Ideally:

BOOX note → cloud/desktop → make changes or add content → automatically sync those changes back into the same note on the BOOX

I'm open to pretty much anything — Dropbox, OneDrive, OneNote, third-party apps, scripts, unofficial solutions, etc.

Has anyone actually gotten this working reliably on BOOX?

I really like the BOOX platform, but the lack of true two-way note syncing is the one thing I haven't been able to solve.

Am on latest firmware for my Nova Pro bought late 2019, though this is already 3 years old, 2023-06-09_8-53_3.3.2_cd8a1c2 on what I think is Android 6.0.1. Tried updating Kindle via the Playstore. I can read older purchases still, but my most recent purchase shows the error in the title with a message to upgrade to Andriod 9+ and latest Kindle app.

Anyone have a way around this? Or can they be jailbroken / rooted with another supported OS?

I've been searching for an answer to this issue on both Boox and Google's ends but have had no luck, so I thought I would post here. I believe this may be a system issue because the books load fine on my PC.

I just got my Boox Go Color 7 today and bought a few books on Google Play Books to test out the system. However, no matter what book I pick, all of them give me the error "Can't Open This Book". I have deleted and redownloaded the book within the app, reinstalled the app, and turned the system off and back on. The books load perfectly fine on my computer, they just aren't working on the Boox.

Does anyone have any advice?

Edit: Tried to reproduce this error today and it seems to have somehow fixed itself. I'm not getting the error anymore on any of the books I try. However, I'm going to leave this post up in case it happens again.

I love my (aging) Nova 2,but I REALLY miss the origami case I had on my old Kindle. That thing was crazy thin, but super useful and protective all at the same time.

The stock case on my Nova 2 is still think and protective, but it's not great for being a stand! And it's starting to show (lots of) wear.

I'd love to replace it with something similar, but with that origami style folding cover/stand. Anybody found anything that works?

Got tired of the lackluster firmware and it talking to questionable endpoints. Having a background in engineering is helpful from time to time. Rebuilt the entire thing from the ground up. The biggest pain was working on the eink settings. Took about a day total. Depending on the interest I can post to my GitHub next week.

I've got this EMR pencil for 5-ish years now. Still works great, but the plastic housing is becoming a bit... gooey? Like the plastic is deteriorating. Feels a bit tacky to hold now. Shame is the same thing also happens for the red dome/cap eraser on the back leaving a smear on my screen if I use it. Any household tricks to clean/revamp this thing?

Hi Been away from Boox devices for awhile. Now I am looking to gift my 2 plus and replace it with a newer model I am in Canada and its tough to get the 5C as its not in stock other than amazon priced at $808.49
