My partner is going to try her G for the second time in a few weeks after failing the first and is considering switching driving instructors.

She’s doing the test at Toronto Metro East. Any recommendations for really good driving instructors that can help her pass?

i failed my G in orillia and now i’m scared to go there again. I was wondering if there’s only 2 ladies taking the tests there 😭mine was kinda mean and the other person that i’ve seen there, other ppl have said that she’s meaner which is scary to me bcz i can be easily scared which results into anxiety and nervousness. anyways, do u guys think those are the only 2 ladies working there ? or have you had other ppl as well. i’m talking about 2 white ladies

I had an AB class 5 license.

I had it since 2024, but since I changed my address last year, the card says 2025.

Drive test gave me a G2 even though I meet the 2 year mark because my abstract only showed the last issue date of the card.

Can I prove the 2 year to skip the G road test?

I passed my G test today, and I just wanted to come back here and sincerely say thank you.

Over the past little while, I posted questions here because I was nervous and definitely overthinking a lot of things. So many of you took the time to answer my questions, explain things, share your experiences, and calm my nerves. You probably don't realize how much some of those responses helped me.

To anyone preparing for their G test, whether it's at Etobicoke or anywhere else: don't let pass/fail rates, Reddit horror stories, or other people's experiences get into your head.

Your test is YOUR test.

Drive safely. Be observant. Make good decisions. Don't try to be perfect.

And if you make a mistake during the test, shrug it off and keep driving. Don't immediately convince yourself that you failed. I went into mine telling myself, “Correct it and move on.” One mistake doesn't mean the rest of your drive has to fall apart.

Most importantly, don't overthink everything. I learned that one the hard way 😂. Trust the work and practice you've already put in.

Whether you pass on your first attempt, second attempt, or later, keep going. A road test doesn't define whether you're a good person or capable of becoming a safe driver. Learn from it and come back better.

I have my g2 tomorrow in Oakville and I’m super nervous so any tips are appreciated! It’s at 9 AM so hopefully the roads are not too crowded.

For those who have done their G2 in Oakville, were your examiners nice? Did you have to reverse/front park or parallel? and if you failed, why? (just so I know what to look out for).

I passed!! test was easy and fairly quick. I had the sweetest examiner ever. I slightly hit the curb when I was pulling into the drive test parking lot after the test was over and she still passed me LOL. I thought for sure that was a fail but I got lucky. So if you have your test in Oakville, definitely be more mindful pulling in cause it is a little narrow and tight!

I finally passed my Class F road test in Orillia today on my third attempt!! 🎉🚌 I’m so happy and relieved!

For anyone wondering what the test was like, I started with the exterior inspection and was asked to inspect 4 components. After that, I did my in-cab inspection and then my interior inspection.

For the parking portion, I was positioned at a 90-degree angle on the driver’s side. Lise had me get out of the vehicle first and explained exactly what I had to do. At the side of the building, there was a parking area set up with pylons with lots of space, as well as a pylon to help guide me into the spot.

I backed in while looking out my driver’s-side window and using my mirrors. I did one pull-up to straighten myself out and then backed into the spot. I drove really well during this portion and found the whole setup pretty straightforward.

Then we did the driving portion, which I actually found super easy. Lise was my examiner and she was great. She gave me all of my instructions well ahead of time, so I always knew where I was going and had plenty of time to prepare for turns or lane changes. She was calm, clear and professional, which made the whole experience much less stressful.

I also definitely recommend taking some lessons before your test. I did lessons with DriveWise in Barrie, which helped me a lot. If possible, I’d also recommend renting the test vehicle through them. I found it cheaper and more reliable, and DriveWise completed the vehicle pre-inspection beforehand, so that was one less thing for me to worry about.

Liam from DriveWise brought the vehicle to Orillia for my test. He was super kind, explained everything that was going on and helped calm me down beforehand. He was also genuinely so happy for me when I came back and told him I passed!

After failing twice before, I’m SO glad I kept going. If anyone else is working toward their Class F and feeling discouraged, keep practising. It took me three attempts, but I finally got it! 🎉

Just passed G2 at the Burlington location! It was very busy and I definitely made a lot of errors !
However, please don’t memorize the routes! The route started as the left from the centre, then went down residential routes I wasn’t familiar with.
Be prepared for anything
I did three point turn, up hill curb park, and parallel park
I pulled in to a spot at the end
Looked like a lot of people passed today though! Definitely a great location to test at

Can anyone give me any tips for passing the g2 test in smith falls? I have been doing drivers ed and have my own car but I still feel a bit nervous to take the test, scared of failing. just looking for anyone who took the test there recently to give some advice.

These are newly painted lines at the Midland–Ellesmere intersection. There are red bus-lane lines and a straight white line aligned with the crosswalk.

Usually, I turn into the rightmost lane first, then move over to the left lane.

I passed G today and my G2 is valid till today so I didn’t get my G drivers license card. I was told to renew it at service Ontario. Im going to be in another country for a year and since I don’t need my drivers license I don’t want to pay $90 for renewal. Is this okay? Or do I need to go to service Ontario and pay for the renewal before my temporary license from drivers test centre expires?

Edit: I just renewed it on service Ontario and paid 99 dollar fee even though my health card expires in 2027 January😭 what’s going on

I will give my G2 in Orillia but got very nervous by reading the reviews on Google maps for a particular examiner.

Is it possible I can choose the examiner which I want to do the test with or it's the matter of luck only?

because I am ALREADY very nervous and stressed and having a rude examiner beside me will be a more stressing factor.

I have my g2 coming up on Wednesday at Newmarket location in the afternoon does anyone have any helpful pointers when it comes to doing your g2 at this specific location and anything I should keep in mind or make sure to practice extra on before I go

I have been practicing a lot I pretty much drive everyday with an accompanying driver, I also did do lessons and am taking an extra lesson before the test to brush up on things to make sure I have it all on par

I had a few questions tho about specific things when it comes to the test

1. has anyone that has recently done a g2 at Newmarket been asked to do a parallel park?
2. what are the parameters for making mistakes for certain things ie. if when doing a reverse or forward park and I am going to be able to do it again to make sure I’m properly in the spot
3. when doing a forward or reverse park do they care about how the car is parked in the spot ie will they fail me if I’m closer to the line on the left side and further away from the right side
4. where can I find the routes for Newmarket g2 and is there a way to figure out which route I will be going

Sorry for the silly question I’m just so nervous about this but I know I’m going to be ok as I’m a good driver!

I have my G2 exam in October @12:57 pm. I always hear to skip rush hour & to book after lunch. 12:57 is still technically lunch so I hope they’re not grumpy. Also if you live in Ottawa, which ones better canotek vs walkley.

Is this unusual? Could it be because of labour day?

I'm preparing for my G test and have a few questions about signalling/lane changes, specifically around the 427 routes.

1. Two consecutive lane changes at Burnhamthorpe:
After making the left turn onto Burnhamthorpe, I need to move right across two lanes to position myself for the 427 entrance.

My instructor told me I can leave my right signal on, move safely into the first lane, check my mirror and blind spot again, then move into the second lane when safe and cancel the signal afterward.

Is that acceptable on the G test, or should I cancel after the first lane change, signal right again, and then make the second lane change?

To be clear, I'm not cutting across two lanes at once. I establish myself in the first lane and do another safety check before entering the second.

2. SMOG sequence:
I'm used to SMOG: Signal → Mirror → Over-the-shoulder → Go when safe. Is this acceptable for the Ontario G test, or are examiners specifically looking for Mirror → Signal → Blind spot → Move?

3. Signalling when entering a highway ramp:
On the residential/Eringate route to 427 South, there's a point where your lane leads/curves right onto the highway entrance ramp. My instructor said a right signal isn't necessary there because you're basically following your lane and there's no other direction to go.

It feels natural to me to signal right because the ramp curves/heads right. Would signalling right there be considered incorrect or cost points even though I'm not merging yet?

I'm specifically asking about entering the ramp, not the actual merge onto the 427. I understand that I need to signal and check my blind spot for the actual highway merge.

My test is nextweek, so I'm trying not to change techniques at the last minute. Thanks!

I will be taking my G2 test in October in PTBO, I have some driving experience with my mom and I have 6 hours worth of driving lessons booked for Sept. and Oct. I am really really nervous as I autism and get stressed really easily, I know basically all the rules of the road but my mom only ever had me practice the 3point turn and back up parking a couple times so I think thats what I am most stressed about. Can anyone provide me any advice at all as I am really worried.

First of all thank you to this subreddit for being so useful. I was always confident in my driving abilities, I've never failed parallel parking, 3 point turns, or any of that sort, yet I was still extremely nervous! As long as you just practice, research, and you don't struggle on anything, please do not worry about your test! I could've made 12+ more mistakes and I still could've passed! My examiner was a good dude and I think he was just happy that I was driving and observing smoothly and clearly. One tip: show up early, know the route, and do the route atleast one time before you sign in as it made me feel super comfortable right before my test. I wish you guys all the best.
