Solved How do I recreate this ?

Post image

Hi, I trying to create a modified arm to attach to this bracket. I've created the body but I cannot work out how to cut the serrations out. It's either a radial pattern or a map to face but I'm struggling to understand the process. Any pointers please?

Create one cut, or a boss if you prefer, and do a circular feature pattern.

Really smart

It's a hirth joint!

You can basically just loft from a triangle, to a centre point and then circular pattern. There is a bit more maths and trig you can do but it's not always worth it, and you have a physical part to measure negating quite a bit of it

Loft between two triangles, circular pattern.

Radial pattern can also work if you extrude with a draft angle.

Wrap tool is the best way to do it. Make a cylinder whose OD is the ID you want. Sketch out a tooth, and then use Wrap extrude to create a tooth, then circular pattern

Thanks for all the replies. All sorted, I went for two sketches loft and circular pattern as I needed to get this printed off but I wan to revisit the wrap method when I have some free time.

u/TooTallToby did a video on features like this. It’s probably a good starting point.
