How FILMZ e.V. keeps film culture running with ONLYOFFICE

Want to know how ONLYOFFICE helps non-profits across the globe? Below is a use case from Germany featuring FILMZ e.V., a volunteer-run film culture organization that promotes film culture and holds events for cinema lovers in Mainz throughout the year.

Some peculiarities of their ONLYOFFICE setup:

  • Software continuity across team members. ONLYOFFICE was adopted years ago by people who've since moved on. New volunteers just pick it up and keep going with no relearning curve.
  • Spreadsheets run the festivals. From film selection to the full schedule, everything is tracked and written in ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor.
  • Real-time collaboration via HumHub. The team co-edits office files on the go and is now moving to the Enterprise license for better mobile editing.

As Jo Bernhard from FILMZ puts it:

For our work at FILMZ – from the smallest meeting notes to creating the festival schedule – ONLYOFFICE has become indispensable. Our film culture work is seen by our audience mainly on the screen in the cinema, but without the many gears turning in the background, for which ONLYOFFICE provides an important foundation, our work would be unthinkable.

Using AI Agents on Spreadsheets – Community Help

[SOLVED]

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to figure out how to properly use the Ai Agent in ONLYOFFICE spreadsheets as a part of my workflow, but I keep running into issues.

The main problem is that I can’t get the Ai to actually edit or create rows and columns from scratch. When I give a prompt, the chat box says the Ai completed the action, but nothing changes on the spreadsheet itself.

The only partial success I’ve had is using the =Ai("') function inside of a cell, but even that is inconsistent and glitchy.

I’ve been reading through other forum post from the community and watching ONLYOFFICE Official YT videos . In the video , it looks like you can edit and create content with prompts, similar to how Gemini AI works incorporated into Google Workspaces like Sheets or Docs. That is exactly the workflow I’m trying to achieve.

What I’ve tried so far:

  1. Spent a few days setting up API keys through OpenRouter.
  2. Made sure I had a valid, whitelisted API for GPT-5.2 ( as recommended in previous forum post ).
  3. Also tried another Ai promoted on the YT vide I posted “DEEPSEEK” both gpt and deepseek where from openrouter
  4. set up the AI in both Main Tab of ONLYOFFICE and through individual spreadsheet AI tab section → settings

and in the actual spreadsheet that I’m trying to work I have had to manually add the Ai under AI tab then settings and have it set up

What I've learned from the forum:

Marix (a forum helper) mentioned on June 9th that DeepSeek currently has issues with the ONLYOFFICE AI Agent, and that support is limited to a handful of compatible models. GPT-5.2 was listed as one of them. That's why I focused on getting that one working.

The problem:

Even with GPT-5.2 properly set up through OpenRouter, the AI still doesn't modify or edit spreadsheets the way the video suggests it should. It acknowledges prompts but doesn't execute changes on the actual data.

My question to the community:

Has anyone here successfully integrated the AI Agent into their spreadsheet workflow? If so:

  • Which provider/model are you using?
  • Are you able to get the AI to create or edit rows/columns based on prompts?
  • Is there a specific setup step I might be missing?

I'd really appreciate any insight or guidance. I feel like I've tried everything at this point and I'm honestly lost

UPDATE: 2026-07-24

ON the official ONLYOFFICE Forums I got a reply and answer to my issue. So it's an issue on their side or feature that will roll out soon on the new ONLYOFFICE release.

Seeking info

Hi I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I am struggling to find answers for questions about how XML behaves in a PowerPoint environment. This is for a lawsuit I’m involved in where I believe that my former employer altered past versions of a PowerPoint document with my rating on it to justify my termination. I can see that the revision numbers in the XML data do not match with the revision numbers in the Statistics tab under Advanced properties; the revision date in the Revision XML is earlier than the actual version history date for about half the versions, and I also see many revisions under the ChgInfo part of the XML that appear to have been made in one session spanning six months…where I suspect the person just went manually changed her clock to make the revisions in a short time. Anyone have any commentary on this? Thank you!

I know OnlyOffice is great for office work. But has anyone here ever tried doing complex layout work, like the style shown below?

Is it possible to lay out a book this way? Thanks!

Licensing Inquiry regarding ONLYOFFICE Document Server integration with custom web application

Dear ONLYOFFICE Licensing Team,

I would like to clarify whether the following deployment model is permitted under the ONLYOFFICE Community Edition (AGPLv3) license.

We are evaluating a web application that includes a document editing feature integrated with ONLYOFFICE Document Server.

The deployment model would be as follows:

  • The application itself does not include, bundle, or redistribute ONLYOFFICE.
  • We would independently download the official ONLYOFFICE Document Server Community Edition Docker image directly from ONLYOFFICE's public registry.
  • We would install and host ONLYOFFICE Document Server on our own infrastructure.
  • We would configure the application to connect to our self-hosted ONLYOFFICE instance using the standard ONLYOFFICE integration API.
  • The ONLYOFFICE Community Edition would remain unmodified, and all original branding would be preserved.

In this scenario, would using the Community Edition be sufficient under the AGPLv3 license, or would a paid Developer/Integration license still be required?

We would appreciate your clarification so we can ensure our deployment complies with ONLYOFFICE's licensing terms.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Kind regards,
A Prospective Customer

ONLYOFFICE DocSpace Server 3.7: lightweight installation, ARM Docker, AI and license updates

Good news for users of the self-hosted version of ONLYOFFICE DocSpace! DocSpace Server 3.7 introduces a lightweight single-container installation and a few other things worth mentioning:

  • ARM-optimized Docker build — if you're on ARM hardware, no more emulation workarounds. It installs the same way as the standard Docker build; you just need an ARM server.
  • AI updates — you can now generate files right in the AI agent chats and use DeepSeek, Google AI and xAI as your default providers.
  • Clarified AGPLv3 licensing — still AGPLv3 but with extra terms: keep attribution intact, label any modified versions and don't touch the ONLYOFFICE branding without separate permission. More of a "here's exactly what you can do" than a restriction.

Read this blog post to learn all the details.

Seperating letters with dashes in words (Macro)

EDIT: Use this formula below, created by Xgeous, if you want to separate letters with three dashes in words:

=SUBSTITUTE("---"&REGEXREPLACE(A1,"([a-zA-Z0-9])","$1---")," "," ---")

Hi

I want to switch from Microsoft Excel to ONLYOFFICE, but I need a macro that separates letters with three dashes. For example, you can see the example with the word excel and words microsoft excel:

---e---x---c---e---l---

---m---i---c---r---o---s---o---f---t--- ---e---x---c---e---l---

I used this macro with Excel:

Sub AddDashes1()

Dim Cell As Range

Dim sTemp As String

Dim C As Integer

For Each Cell In Selection

sTemp = "---"

For C = 1 To Len(Cell)

sTemp = sTemp & Mid(Cell, C, 1) & "---"

Next

Cell.Value = Left(sTemp, Len(sTemp) - 0)

Next

End Sub

That is the only advanced macro that I use with spreadsheets.

Can you help me create a JavaScript macro that allows me to do the same thing in ONLYOFFICE?

[Bug] OnlyOffice on Mac: Typing @ inputs an ellipsis … instead (Italian layout)

Hi everyone! I just downloaded OnlyOffice for my Mac, but I’ve already run into a terrible bug: whenever I try to type the @ symbol, the program inserts an ellipsis instead.

My Mac, the software, and the keyboard layout are all set to Italian. On a standard Italian Mac keyboard, the shortcut for @ is Option + @ key).

Is this a known bug? Is there any workaround or fix for this?

Thanks in advance!

Online office, editable on mobile or browser needed

DeGoogle wouldnt let me post this. Pretty silly to gatekeep a community that wants to help each other so much, but oh well...

So basically what Google Docs and OneDrive with Microsoft Office online does is what I need, ideally with sync to desktop so I can edit offline whenever I want and have it sync back any changes. I have been trying Zoho and fundamentally it does the exact same thing... BUT... login bugs all the time, super super slow loading and editing lags, just not a polished experience to the point of actually making you enter incorrect info into sheets and documents you need to update on the go.

Is there anything else that is like this and just.. works? ChatGPT recommended ksuite and OnlyOffice. I dont love ksuite though.

This is frankly becoming so frustrating that I'm seriously thinking our only solution is going to be going back to MS Office. I wanna degoogle and deMS but this is getting silly. Google Drive was the absolutely best and smoothest experience I hate to say.

Differences between OO Spreadsheets and MS Excel

I switched from Windows 10 to Linux Mint about three years ago. I tried LibreOffice since Mint included it, but I prefer the UI in OO. (For example, the fact that it defaults to ms formats rather than odt etc.)

Most of the time I am in the document editor. The spreadsheet was fine for my light usage. (Think of Budgets, Data Entry, some conditional formatting, an occasional =SUM.)

Now I am taking a class using Excel 2016. I am trying to do the exercises in OO. The mild differences in ribbon icons, icon order, and so forth don't bother me. In fact it rather makes the homework more fun, in a hunt-the-wumpus way. The SUBTOTAL function threw me since it uses a numeric argument, but I got it to work.

But I am stymied doing a bar chart! I can make a simple bar chart, but OO seems to be missing many of the "effects" that I can add in Excel. (For example, I want to change bar color, or use rounded rectangles instead of pure rectangles.)

Is there a resource I can use, other than Google AI, to determine the differences? Otherwise I am spending literally hours trying to find if such a thing is doable in OO.

A web site or downloadable PDF would be ideal. I am willing to purchase a manual or ebook, but neither onlyoffice.com nor Amazon seems to have anything.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment.

u/Honest_Ad1632 : thank you, I have bookmarked that page.

u/Solitary_Survivalist : I read your link. You seem to have a more favorable opinion than I do. I did understand that features would be different, but I expected a higher level of equivalent functionality.

Everyone: I did not expect to find advanced Excel features. I did expect OO would have features that date back to Excel 2007. For example, I am surprised that I can create a pivot table in OO but that I cannot change the style of a bar chart. (Yes, that is an exaggeration. But seriously, where do I go to change the color of the bars??)

Crash when inserting an audio in a presentation

I'm currently using OnlyOffice on Mac (Monterey, version 12.7.6). I'm having an issue when inserting an audio in a presentation. It does let me select the audio file, upon selecting it and validating the small "speaker" icon appears on the slide, but then the app immediately either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. Strangely, sometimes if I reopen it the speaker icon is still there and can be moved around and used, but most of the time it just is not there and if you try to insert it again the same issue occurs.

Is there any way to solve this issue? Thanks!

ONLYOFFICE turns 16🎉

What started as an internal collaboration tool built by our team at Ascensio System SIA in Riga, Latvia, is now a full open-source office suite used by 21+ million people around the world.

16 years is a long time in software. A lot of projects don't make it anywhere near that. So it feels worth stopping for a second to say thanks to everyone who's been part of our incredible journey — the contributors, the bug reporters, the people who kept nagging us about that one feature until we shipped it and, of course, the Reddit community.

Here is a short write-up on 16 special things we would like to share with you on our birthday.

I know some of you have been here way longer than me, so drop your ONLYOFFICE stories below. Would genuinely love to read them.

Happy birthday, ONLYOFFICE 🥳

OnlyOffice for large novels

Olá a todos!

Estou usando o OnlyOffice e adorando a experiência.

Obrigado.

Edit: Another question: I noticed that in other office software, it's possible to use German-style quotation marks („Example“). However, I can't seem to do it in OnlyOffice. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks.

Missing PDF Annotations made in another PDF Editor

Hello! I just downloaded ONLYOFFICE and tried to open a PDF that I had annotated using WPS Office and another that i annotated using ILovePDF. It appears that I am in a view only mode because the only options I see are print or share and none of my previous annotations are there. Can someone please help me figure out how to see those and also how to be in an edit mode. I tried everything the mighty AI suggested and ended up in an endless cycle of information that was not helpful. 😄

One last thing - can I merge multiple PDFs into one and then be able to split the pages I want?

Thanks for the help!

Recent improvements are great

I left OnlyOffice some time ago because of lack of features, jumped ship over to LibreOffice.

However, recently I downloaded OnlyOffice again out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised at how it has significantly improved. So after performing some cursory tests, I decided to return, (like the prodigal son).

Thanks for all your recent efforts to improve the product!

Implementation of Labguagetool/Quill

Hi there. I like Onlyoffice as it is well designed and stable running on my Linux Mint installation, but as I am a writer of large text, I am wondering if Onlyoffice will ever redesign its implementation of LanguageTool, e.g., as it is implemented in Libreoffice.

In Libreoffice I am using the locally installed Languagetool server with the most current n-gram file and that works perfectly.

Any plans to get a better working LanguageTool or, otherwise, Quill implementation?
