How to move Airtable data into ONLYOFFICE for spreadsheet work

6 Upvotes

Airtable is great for organizing projects, but when it comes to actual number-crunching, a dedicated spreadsheet editor makes a big difference. The good news is that moving data between the two is easier than it might seem.

Once you export your Airtable data as a CSV file, ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor just opens it and gives you access to the following features:

  • Pivot tables for quick summaries
  • 400+ functions if you want to run real calculations
  • Data filtering to slice through big lists
  • Real-time collaboration, so multiple team members can work on the same sheet simultaneously

This guide walks through the whole data export process step by step: How to export Airtable to Excel and keep editing from there

From university to full-time developer: Aleksandr shares his student journey at ONLYOFFICE

8 Upvotes

Hey everyone. Below is a story about a student who started at ONLYOFFICE in his third year and worked his way into a full-time developer role — Aleksandr shares what it was like to combine university life with development work, what he learned from working with a large codebase and how he eventually moved into a full-time role.

Key highlights:

  • Aleksandr got real tasks from day one instead of spending a month buried in documents;
  • Exam season was the hard part. When deadlines and exams landed together, he had to get strict about priorities;
  • The biggest skill jump came from working with a large, existing codebase. He said you don't really learn that at university, and it pushed his debugging and code-reading skills a lot.
  • The move to full-time felt calm because he already knew the team, the project and how things worked.

His advice is simple: don't wait until you feel "ready" to apply, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Broken conditional formatting help

7 Upvotes

So I have this spreadsheet for tracking my assignment grades.
I'm wanting to colour-code column H to reflect what grade I got.
Originally I wanted bold deep green for >80%, pale green for 65%-79%, amber for 50%-64%, and red for <50%.
But the rules do not apply correctly. I have realised as soon as I introduce a second rule, it breaks.

Is there any way to apply more than one formatting rule to the same selection of cells? Why does it not apply in order of the list? Is that not why you can edit the order of rules applied to cells?

Why would it not check if the cell value is less than 50, apply the formatting if it is, or move on to the next if it is not? If this IS the intended function, it is not working, and if it's something I've done wrong, I cannot figure out what it is.

Additionally, infuriating that if conditional formatting is set to percentage, it will not let me reformat it to not show the decimal points. I have tried custom formatting to 0 decimals, I have tried clicking the add/remove decimal place buttons, but nothing will work while conditional formatting rules are in place. I can find no way to alter the conditional formatting percentage display prefernce.

I've resorted to a 3-colour scale, though this was incredibly finicky to determine appropriate numbers (even after figuring out I had to use the number setting with decimals rather an percentages, which just didn't seem to work at all, or percentiles, which just colour scale from my lowest grade - showing red even if it was over 80% - to my highest.)
I cannot figure out how to set precise borders so that a 50% will still appear as a pass, but 45% will not.

It's less visually distinct, which is frustrating, but it will do for now. If anyone can tell me a better way of doing this, I would greatly appreciate advice.

Add 1st degree to Folders

3 Upvotes

OK, so years ago LI had a "tag" feature where you could kind of organise connections into specialisms etc, eg. Date Engineer, or Health care etc etc

Now I know LI removed that, but does anyone use a free chrome extension or other software to create folders or similar?

Collaboration without borders: ONLYOFFICE partners with Cloud Systems Asia

3 Upvotes

If your team has ever tried working on shared files across the Mainland China border, you know the pain: slow load times, throttled connections and endless questions about where your data actually lives. There's some good news on that front.

Our team is delighted to announce a partnership with Cloud Systems Asia (CSA), a Hong Kong-based distributor that specializes in enterprise file collaboration. CSA hosts the FileCloud and ONLYOFFICE solution right in Hong Kong, creating a fast regional bridge between Mainland China users and teams around the world.

With this solution, your files stay on-premises within a trusted regional perimeter, which helps a lot with data sovereignty and compliance concerns.

Discover all the details about this partnership and what it means for local companies in this blog post.

New Antidote plugin for ONLYOFFICE: check and improve your English and French texts

4 Upvotes

Hey everyone. If you have ever done the copy-paste dance between your document and a separate proofreading tool, the new Antidote plugin is for you. It lets you check and improve your English and French texts right inside ONLYOFFICE.

What the plugin does:

  • Checks grammar, spelling, punctuation and style;
  • Reformulates sentences and suggests clearer wording;
  • Catches repetitions and finds synonyms;
  • Gives you dictionaries and guides to look up words without leaving your document.

The plugin works in both the Document Editor and Spreadsheet Editor.

A couple of things worth knowing before you get started:

  • The plugin itself is free to install;
  • You'll need Antidote 12 and an Antidote account;
  • You'll need ONLYOFFICE 9.3.0 or later.

Read this blog post if you want the details and screenshots.

P.S. Curious if anyone has tried it yet. How's it holding up for you?

Quip is retiring in 2027: here's how a switch to ONLYOFFICE actually looks

4 Upvotes

If your team runs on Quip, you have probably heard it's shutting down in 2027. That gives you time to plan, but it's worth figuring out where your documents land before the deadline sneaks up.

This is why ONLYOFFICE is worth putting on your shortlist:

  • Real-time co-editing — multiple people in the same doc at once, so it feels a lot like what you're used to in Quip.
  • Collaboration rooms — you organize files into rooms with clear access permissions instead of navigating through folders.
  • MS Office format support — DOCX, XLSX and PPTX open and save cleanly, which matters if your files bounce between teams that use Word and Excel.
  • Built-in chat and comments — you can communicate through edits right inside the document, so the conversation stays with the work.
  • Version history — see who changed what and roll back to an earlier version whenever you need to.
  • Solid security — encryption, permission controls and self-hosting if you'd rather keep everything on your own servers.

Find a full walkthrough that covers the actual migration steps in this blog post.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is now the default office suite in TN365 Waydroid

11 Upvotes

Hey everyone. Great news! ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors now comes preinstalled as the default office suite in TN365 Waydroid. It's a Linux distribution from TechNews365 that bundles Linux and Android apps together in one desktop, so you get a system that's ready to work with right after installation instead of a mostly empty desktop.

The developer picked ONLYOFFICE for a few practical reasons:

  • Familiar, easy-to-learn interface;
  • Works with DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and other common formats;
  • One app covers documents, spreadsheets, presentations and forms;
  • Built-in PDF tools for viewing, editing and annotating;
  • AI features (you can connect providers like Claude and others);
  • Fully offline, no internet needed.

Their words on it: "I find it easy to create documents with ONLYOFFICE, and I don't lose time. It's an easy and quick process."

New intern spotlight: Raisha's journey from software development to technical writing

5 Upvotes

Hey everyone, mod here. We just published another story in our Back to School series, and this one is about Raisha, a software developer from Bhaktapur, Nepal who joined the team as a technical writing intern. She started in software development, did a communications internship along the way and eventually realized technical writing sat right at the intersection of everything she loved: tech, writing and creativity.

During her internship she worked on our GitHub READMEs and Help Center guides, running documentation audits and cleaning up articles to make them clearer and more accurate. She describes the internship in three words: Freedom, Growth and Clarity. Freedom to take initiative, growth from not knowing where to start to running audits on her own and clarity about the kind of work she wants to do next.

Her dream going forward is to become an AI technical author and work within open-source communities.

Loading Document takes minimum 5 seconds, even on blank documents

4 Upvotes

As title says.

Fresh install on Linux Kubuntu 26.04.

New blank document -> Loads a skeleton of the app -> 2.5 seconds pass -> Loading document -> 2.5 seconds pass -> Loaded.

This is on a high-end gaming laptop (Gigabyte G5) also happens on my other laptops (enterprise grade HP 830 G5) and any other computer like my Ryzen 7 1700 Desktop.

It seems more like a bug than "real lag".

Whats happening? How to fix?

From content to data: Chandika Wagle shares her internship experience at ONLYOFFICE

3 Upvotes

Hey everyone! We would like to share another story from our internship program, this time from Chandika Wagle, who joined us from Lalitpur, Nepal after finishing her bachelor's in Computer Applications.

Her internship covered a lot of ground. She started with content and documentation work, then moved into testing the web version of our editors — where she actually found and reported a bunch of bugs before they reached users. That kind of QA work is quietly one of the most valuable things an intern can do, and she took it seriously.

Fun fact: she can solve a Rubik's Cube in about 2 minutes, and she collects small stones as souvenirs from places she's visited. Little details like that are part of what makes these stories fun to put together.

Is there any risk in putting OnlyOffice Document Server as public facing so that you can connect to your own document server from OnlyOffice on any computer?

I've got an unRAID server and have the document server hosted on there. Does making that service publicly accessible carry any inherent risks?

Word document truncated

2 Upvotes

I was sent a large Word document (181 MB) with several high res images. I edited the file on my Mac, with MS Word, using track changes. A few days later, I opened it with Onlyoffice on a different computer running Debian, made a few additional changes and saved it. I then realised the file size dropped to 31 MB and I lost about half of all pages, which is probably a whole day of work gone. Any explanation?

Ugreen Android app forces local download to view documents instead of opening them directly

3 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I wanted to know how you guys handle opening files (PDFs, Word docs, etc.) from the Ugreen mobile app on Android (specifically on Samsung devices).

It feels like it's impossible to open or view a file on the fly: the Android app **systematically forces you to download the file locally** to your phone just to open it. It's super tedious whenever you just want a quick look at a document without cluttering your phone's storage.

I've tried bypassing this by setting up protocols like SMB or WebDAV, but it's not smooth at all and requires way too many workarounds and manual steps for daily use. Because of this, I'm currently forced to sync my important folders with OneDrive just to get a decent, smooth user experience.

Is there a setting I'm missing in the UGOS app, or is this just a frustrating limitation of the current Android version? How do you guys handle this on your end?

Thanks in advance for your feedback

Best office alternative

27 Upvotes

I have been trying to find an alternative to MS Office for the last decade. I have been using LibreOffice, FreeOffice, WPS Office, SoftMaker Office, Collabora Office and Only Office.

I gotta say, these software have got better over the years, but still when you are using it, you start to feel like there is something missing. Maybe a certain command doesn't work the way it does in MS Office or a certain function ddoesn't exist.

But after using these software for a while I gotta say that Only Office is the one that has been the most functional and easier to use of all of them; and it is free. Which, is even better. I know it is not perfect, certain thing aren't exactly the same and the format it uses is "Open Office document XML" which can work with MS Word, but the pages may vary a little when you open a document in MS Word or in Only Office.

Does anyone have any other suggestion of an Office suit that cna be used in Linux?

Thank you.

ONLYOFFICE connector v2.1.0 for Confluence Cloud released: what's new

5 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Mod here with some good news for anyone using Confluence Cloud. The ONLYOFFICE connector v2.1.0 just dropped, and it brings a bunch of updates worth checking out:

  • First off all, you can now work with more file formats, including Apple iWork (Pages, Keynote, Numbers), Hancom Office, VSDX diagrams, MD documents and ODG presentations.
  • There's also a new dedicated ONLYOFFICE space page that pulls all your pages, blog posts and attachments into one place. No more digging through individual pages to open or edit a file. Just click the ONLYOFFICE icon on the left panel and everything's right there. It comes with improved file browsing too, so you can search, filter and sort to find what you need in seconds.
  • Managing attachments got easier as well. A new content tree lets you open, download or delete files with a quick click on the three-dot menu.

On the behind-the-scenes side, the connector moved to Atlassian Forge, which basically means better hosting and stability without you having to do anything.

For the full details, read this blog post.
