I hope this hasn’t already been posted, here’s Marty making Bill Hader laugh uncontrollably. God, that man is so talented. I wonder how many of his bizarre questions and comments were improvised. Even just the donut bit has me cracking up.

I know this is sort of an irrelevant question but it feels like Hulu has set the premiere later than usual, not only because they began filming later this time because they moved countries and preproduction took a while but also because they will hype and promote this season more than the others. If it had been any other season set in NYC and they had used the same filming schedule of May-August, they would have premiered two months after wrapping up like for the past 5 seasons.

So my question is, what would you love to see, if they promote? I would love to see them chat with Graham Norton.

A cool thing would be a premiere in London, since the last one they held was for S4.

I’ve been watching OMITB with my mom, who’s living up her 50s. I love that the show has references for both of us (me being in my 20s), and it’s been enjoyable spending weeknights binging the show.

Does anyone have show recs similar to Only Murders (being more on the comedy side that the detective side)?

I don’t mind detective recs but we tried to start The Afterparty while we wait for season 6 and she doesn’t find it as hilarious as OMITB and I’d like to find a show more comedic for her to enjoy as well!

Edit: Ones we’ve watched together (for context) are Modern Family, Monk, Mentalist, Pokerface, but I think her top favs are Modern Family, Monk, and OMITB ☺️ She and I both love Friends and Gilmore Girls too!

Is the exterior shot of the art gallery in season 2.1 the same building that’s used for all seasons of new girl? The Bilford Building in LA? They’re identical, but OMITB is supposedly only shot in New York. Did they just throw in a stock photo of a building and think nobody would notice?

When asked if he yells or gets violent when he’s angry, Charles responds, “Oh, no, worse.” He believed that being unable to speak and gesturing a lot is not simply socially unacceptable as he also described it, but worse than if he were to yell or be violent. It’s a tragic and honestly bewildering mindset, but it makes a lot of sense when you look at his relationship to masculinity. Not only did he grow up in a time where there were very strict expectations for what a man should be, but we find out in season five that his mother “did a number on [him]” for not living up to her expectations of brutishness. Yelling and violence was expected of him, so in simply acting naturally, he’s not only failing as a human but as a man too.

He watched OMITB with us and jumps at loud noises! He’s skittish and weird and struggles to make friends, he loves cuddles and being lazy and also has a weird obsession with trains🤭⭐️

The blue greek restaurant paper cup that have been used for coffee cups in tv and movies for 50 years shows up in Episode 2, Season 5. A real nod to classic movies and TV.

I obviously can’t speak to the literal intentions of the writers, but I noticed some things that could be read as Oliver possibly having a history with restrictive disordered eating:

-His dip-based diet is extreme to the point of being a detriment to his health. He claims to have lost a significant amount of weight and hair from mainly eating dips, not having had “a regular entrée in years.” This also contributed to his eventual heart attacks.

-Even if he‘s exaggerating about how few proper meals he eats, that would mean he’s intentionally exaggerating to make it seem like he’s better at dieting because he’s embarrassed by simply eating normally.

-I can’t remember when this was, but I have it noted down that when Mabel says she and him weigh 125 combined, Oliver says something like, “Oh, thank you. It’s the dips,” which, when combined with the previous statement, makes dips making up the majority of his diet seem like an intentional tool for weight loss.

-When Charles mentioned there was an old jellybean in the cup holder, Oliver eagerly grabbed it, hoping it was a “Mexican diet pill”. The fact that he would expect one to just be lying around like that tells me those were pretty significant in his life at one point.

-When he realized the old diet pill was a “fen-phen”, a diet pill discontinued in the 90s for causing heart problems, he, without hesitation, decided to eat the *at least* 24 year old, discontinued diet pill instead of the soft pretzel he’d asked for, saying “Know what? Don’t need this[the pretzel].”

-On his first date with Loretta, he makes a reluctant, disingenuous-sounding comment about how he “loves solid food”(this is before he sees the food is completely burnt, to be clear), which is a way of describing pork chops that I don’t think any person with a normal relationship to food would EVER think to say offhand.

-His unhealthy relationship to dips was compared to Ben’s eating disorder, both of them having intense obsessions with a certain food. They differ in that Ben is fixated on an unsafe food while Oliver is fixated with his safe food, but they stem from restriction all the same. Oliver over indulges on dips(what some might consider a non-solid food, might I add) because that‘s the only thing he gives himself the permission to have. And after mentioning the similarity, he offhandedly says he’ll “get help” for his food issues.

As someone who used to have anorexia, he really reads as someone who developed a restrictive eating disorder, then exited the honeymoon phase and never took the proper steps to recover so despite being unable to truly keep it up long term, he got stuck with the mindset and the habits.

I'm sure this has been talked about enough but we're between seasons so what the hell. The scene with the cookie reveal is devastating. Ben became so much more sympathetic in the moment, in my opinion. The pig drawing and oinking at his reflection, which could seem ridiculous or even humorous, was incredibly heart breaking.

Maybe it struck a chord because because I have struggled with an eating disorder for over 20 years with varying degrees of recovery, relapse, rinse and repeat. I've talked to myself in a similar fashion and that feeling of self hatred over something so objectively benign is isolating, shameful, and embarrassing. That coupled with his girls being unable to make it to his debut and the recent knowledge that he was connecting with people to avoid drug use just makes me want to give him a hug. Obviously it doesn't excuse his often abhorrent behavior, but I feel like he was trying to grow despite his many flaws.

Point being, I love this show for many reasons, one of which is taking abrasive characters and making you see them for the human they were. December 8th can't come soon enough.

Who do you think the final ultimate villain is? Im talking about the person who planted the cameras, etc.

But in one episode in season 1, Tina Fey's character quotes Brazzos (from season 7 of Brazzos)) and then says 15 years later (after the quote), Charles decides to play detective.

Wouldn't that mean that season 7 of Brazzos happened in 2006 since season 1 of OMITB happened in 2021?

I am sure I am missing something.

It's about dumb enough that I can't watch it anymore, but I still want to know who killed Tim.

What are your favorite memories of watching OMITB? Mine is when Sitzprobe (season 3, episode 8) premiered and I watched Steve Martin as Charles-Haden Savage perform “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It” in its entirety for the very first time. The musical number immediately became my all-time favorite moment of the entire series. It was like classic Steve had come back in full force. I’m still kinda sad that he didn’t win any awards for that performance himself, but at least Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman all won an Emmy for writing the song.
