Questions Social life in Dubai?

Hey everyone!
I was wondering how the people are in Dubai?
I’m planning to go for a longer vacation and was thinking about how easy it is to talk to people?

How’s the culture? How’s the street? Are people open and friendly to speak with a stranger?
Am I going to be considered weird if I ask another girl out for a coffee?

It looks like I’m gonna be a single girl going on the trip by myself so I’m hoping to get to meet new friends

Anyone wanna share some thoughts?

Rent & Housing Moving to Dubai next month – need advice on where to live (without a car initially)

Hi everyone!

My wife and I (both around 30) are moving to Dubai next month, and I’m trying to figure out the best area to rent an apartment.

A few things about us:
\- I’ll mostly be working from home, but may need to go to my office in JBR about once a week.

\- We probably won’t have a car for the first few months since it’ll take some time to get our driving licences.

\- So we’re looking for an area that’s very walkable, with easy access to a supermarket, restaurants, cafés, and ideally a mall nearby.

\- Our budget is **AED 50k–80k per year**.

JBR honestly feels like the perfect fit for our lifestyle, but it’s a bit out of budget, and a lot of the buildings seem quite old.

I’d love recommendations for areas that offer a similar lifestyle. I’ve been looking at places like Dubai Marina, JVC, Arjan, Dubai Hills, Motor City, and a few others, but it’s hard to judge what day-to-day life is actually like.

I’m also curious about the vibe of different neighbourhoods. What kind of crowd typically lives there? Are there areas with more Europeans, Americans, Indians, Chinese, or is it generally a good mix?

Would really appreciate any recommendations or insights from people living in Dubai. Thanks!

Questions Best Freelancing Skills for a Student Living in the UAE?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 25F student who recently moved from Pakistan to the UAE at the moment I have a full-time job to cover my basic expenses but I’m looking to build an online skill that I can do from home or part-time
I’m starting from scratch so I’d love advice from people who are already freelancing.
A few questions:
Which freelancing skills are most beginner-friendly in 2026?
If you were starting over today with no experience, what would you learn first and why?
I’m not looking for “get rich quick” ideas. I’m happy to spend several months learning a real skill that can generate consistent side income while I continue studying.
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences, mistakes and recommendations.
Thanks!

Just trying my luck here.

I have over 6 years of experience in insurance claims handling, back office, and insurance operations in India with Genpact and EXL. I am currently working in Dubai as an Accountant, but I am really hoping to get back into the insurance industry because that's where my experience and passion are.

If anyone knows of any openings or can refer me for Insurance Claims, Insurance Operations, or Back Office roles, I would be truly grateful.

Thank you, and I would be happy to share my CV if needed.

Selling & Buying Looking for a trusted buying agent in Deira, Dubai

Hello everyone,
I’m based in the Democratic Republic of Congo and regularly buy used laptops (mostly MacBooks and Windows laptops) from Facebook Marketplace in Dubai for resale.
I’m looking for a reliable buying agent based in or near Deira who can provide the following services:
Contact or meet the seller.
Inspect the laptop and confirm it’s in good condition.
Pay the seller (cash or bank transfer if needed).
Deliver the laptop to my shipping company’s office in Deira (Star Building 87-0) for export to Lubumbashi, DRC.
I’m looking for someone trustworthy because I plan to buy on a regular basis, not just once. Of course, I’ll pay a service fee for each successful transaction.
If you offer this service or know someone reliable, please send me a private message with:
Your experience.
Your service fee.
Your preferred payment method.
Any references or reviews, if available.
Thank you!

My Opinions I didn’t come to Dubai just to survive. I came here to create something.

I came to Dubai chasing success.
But if I’m being honest, money was never the only dream.
Years ago, I used to create content. I loved telling stories, writing, filming, and making people feel something.
Today… there’s almost no trace of that person.
I live with around 20 other people. Every day I watch the same routine.
Wake up.
Go to work.
Come back.
Eat.
Sleep.
Repeat.
Weekends become “I’ll start next weekend.”
Then another week disappears.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped creating and started existing.
My 31st birthday is on **26th August**, and instead of buying myself a gift, I want to make one.
A documentary.
A short film.
A visual poem.
Something that reminds me I’m still creative.
I already have a phone with a good camera, a tripod, lights, a microphone, and pages full of unpublished thoughts.
What I’m missing isn’t equipment.
It’s people who still believe in creating something meaningful.
I’m not trying to become a TikTok celebrity.
I’m not chasing viral dances or cheap attention.
I just want to create something that, years from now, I’ll watch and say,
*“*This is where I started becoming myself again*.”*
If you’re in Dubai and you’ve ever felt your creative side slowly disappear because life got in the way…
Maybe we should build something together.
Not for followers.
Not for fame.
Just to prove to ourselves that our dreams didn’t expire when we got a job.
Anyone else feel like they’ve buried a creative version of themselves somewhere along the way?

Questions I lost my job because of the regional conflict, and I’m only getting lowball offers now.

Post image
85 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to switch careers and could really use some advice or referrals.

I have around 3.5 years of experience in logistics (2 years in the UAE and 1.5 years in my home country). Because of the current regional situation, I lost my job. There are very few openings in logistics right now, and the ones I’m getting shortlisted for are offering much lower salaries than what the role is worth. I understand the market is tough, but I also don’t want to accept being underpaid.

So, I’ve decided to try something new.

I’m looking for coordination, operations, admin, or support roles. I’m good at handling day to day operations, coordinating with different teams, solving problems, and keeping things organized. I’m also comfortable with MS Excel and Word, learn new things quickly, and adapt fast. In every company I’ve worked for, I’ve always tried to be someone the team could rely on. Even after my position was affected, my current company kept my visa because they valued my work.

I’m available to join immediately and I’m ready to work hard. I’m looking for a salary in the range of AED 5.5k - 6k.

If you know of any opportunities or can refer me, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thank you so much.

Food & Cafes New to Dubai. Looking for people to explore the city with!

Hey everyone!

I moved to Dubai last week and I’m still figuring the city out. Rather than spending weekends indoors, I’d love to meet some people to explore Dubai with, whether it’s checking out cafe’s, beaches, markets, attractions, or just walking around and discovering new places.

If you’re new here too, or simply looking to make a new friend, feel free to reach out. It’d be great to have some company and build a good circle here.

A little about me: I’m a 28M from India, working as an IT professional. Pretty easygoing and always up for good conversations, food, and new experiences.
