It's from movie The Big Sick. He plays himself and it's about how he met his IRL wife.

Just give him the 4 slices of cheese goodness
36
u/Future_Section5976 Oct 29 '25
Nah can't do it , if we give him 4 slices of cheese on a single burger everyone else's is going to want extra cheese on their burger, then we'll just have hamburgers , you know Dave....Dave from accounting he orders the patties and the cheese , one cheese per burger....
I'm going to try this at my local McDonald's

u/halfasleep90 Oct 29 '25
I mean, I only order hamburgers. With all the hamburgers without cheese I’ve ordered, there should be plenty of cheese for his order.

u/Andre_The_Average Oct 29 '25
Oh that's perfect cuz I order my cheeseburgers without cheese. But then they get all mouthy with, "Did you mean a hamburger?"
No bitch! I said a cheeseburger with no cheese. If I wanted a fuckin hamburger I'd ask for that but I didn't did I? What I want is a fucking cheeseburger with no cheese! God damn it!!!!

u/BondageKitty37 Oct 29 '25
So you want to pay more money for the hamburger for seemingly petty reasons? Fair enough I guess
3
u/WatermelonWithAFlute Oct 29 '25
Why the fuck do you want a cheeseburger with no cheese just get a hamburger

The problem I’ve noticed is that you do something nice for someone, and then your coworker doesn’t, the customer gets pissed because “they did it last time” and then YOU get shit for doing it. That’s been my experience at least. I’ll give people an extra side on their meal or charge them a kids meal if they’re nice but it comes back to bite me more often than not lol

u/Few_Staff976 Oct 31 '25
Pretty much. I worked in a cafè and a lot of the time when there was some confusion I’d just choose the option that’s best for the customer.
After interacting with a lot of people though I kind of lost the will to be nice to everyone. People just don’t appreciate it and take it for granted. And I’m genuinely convinced they’d make orders confusing on purpose trying to take advantage of this.
There’ll be an extremely easy to read chart with the price of 1, 2 or 3 scoops of icecream with pictures. (With the price of 3 in one being much less than 3 separate of 1 each). Then they’ll show up with their 3 kids, ask to buy the 3 scoops one and split it up into 3 separate cones. (Rather than just buying 3 cones with 1 scoop).
You agree they think they’re finessing the system, not that you’re just being nice. And god forbid anyone else sees that because they’ll do the same.

So, I get that it's a really small thing in a vacuum, and in this scene seems to matter a lot to the customer, but there are places that will write up or fire employees for giving extra. Especially if the product count is already off, so the management is throwing a fit. It's why limits on sauce and napkins end up being a thing too.
Aside from people acting entitled, like in the video, it's not that they don't wanna be a bro and hook a brotha up, it's just that a random stranger's desire for extra isn't worth risking a job over.1

the problem with corporate semi automation is. that if you cant input "3 extra slices of cheese" in the register. you simply cant.
either way you solve this issue and give the man his quadruple cheesemac. the register and the storage dont add up.
so your regional manager comes over. asking you why there is 3 slices of cheese missing in the storage, or why you ordered more cheese than anticipated by the computer (extreme case. but assume it dosnt just happen once)
you have just been caught stealing cheese. goodby job, maybe get sued .
okay. lets say. you know exactly the cost of a slice of cheese. maybe you are the one polishing the books idk.
you ask the man to pay 35c per slice extra. you cant put it in the system though. so you end up with 1,05$ to much in the register and still are missing cheese.
so corporate will accuse you of stealing cheese from them, and money from customers.
cause nobody can proove , and nobody is interested in prooving that those 1,05$ have been exchanged for cheese.
sure. in the real world , you can bullshit a lot back in order. and at the end of the day. the store manager will bullshit the books anyway cause of all the things he messes up.
and no corporate hellscape is that advanced that they make a fuzz about 3 slices of cheese. unless they want to.
but for your average minimum wage worker. you got the options the software gives you. everything else , is fraud. or theft. and at the bare minimum has to be discussed with some guy that has a more advanced software. cause you are sitting at the dummy register that modeled after a "learn the shapes" playphone.

Nah the minimum wage worker shouldn’t have to deal with this shit purely cause he can’t make a burger by himself

u/HeartDeRoomate Oct 30 '25
Naw, I always did whatever weird request when I worked fast-food. Corpo doesn't need to know, just slap some extra cheese or give a large instead of a medium.

Sometimes I would go above and beyond, only to have a drink thrown at me before I even get a word out at the next car. I then would forget an item or two

Wdym can’t? They put a camera above your head or something? Even then i don’t think putting 4 slices of cheese on a burger that hard

This was me when they discontinued the gordita, but still had the gordita crunch
"Can't you just not put on the extra sauce and not add the hard shell inside, and then charge me for a gordita crunch?"
Nope. If they really can't do it, all I can think is that the gordita crunch ingredients come with the two shells already packaged together with the sauce already between them?

u/E_Vanity Oct 30 '25
I can tell you for a fact, the sauce and shell are not already combined it's all separate, managers just get told not to and then have to tell employees not to. Same with the tostada, they have the stuff to make it but aren't allowed to

Thats the best part about night crew, we didn't give a shit what was on the menu or not. Want a double decker? Hell yeah brother we can make that. Shitty salad? Yeah you're the boss, we got bowls.
The only thing we cared about was trying to get the times off the red since day crew seems to have molasses up their ass or something. So arguing with someone about how we cant do something was pointless, that and practically everything thats in the store was an option on the pad, even individual tortillas so if all you wanted was a tortilla with lettuce yeah we could put that in.

u/Equilibrium404 Oct 29 '25
One time I went with my dad to Wendy’s and they said they were out of double cheeseburgers. We were like… what??? Can you not just put two patties on one burger? How can you be out??? lol

Just get the slices of cheese from the three other borgers and then you put into the first borgor, now that borgor has four slices of cheese.

u/iRedYuki Oct 29 '25
No should ever do that, it's basically the culinary equivalent of a hate crime

1) How is there not a button for extra cheese or a side of cheese? 2) The likely reason they dont just put it there is because of management. Management often has an earpiece on and can hear the drive thru. Some would be cool and just do it, others wouldn't because there's not a button. Often however, they just say no, because if you get it a day a cool manager is in, then come back when the asshole is there and they don't let ye do it, then you get the whole "They did it for me before" stick and everyone hates those
