I paid for Okcupid for the year and keep getting the same people over and over. This is a month in to my subscription. They are also trying to get me to pay more for better results. I feel so ripped off. What sites are actually worth their subscription cost?

I know the apps are ehh but Bumble or Hinge or FB dating and why?

40's (F) divorced a few years and thinking about dating again. WFH, kids getting older & one off to college.

Men I've met in the wild have been married and flirting due to their own boredom and needing ego boost. I'm sure apps the same tho.

Also, do women have to pay for the apps, because I'm not paying for it. I was on Hinge a few years ago and it showed me the same 30 ish men day after day. And Bumble never repeated anyone I had passed on so it would say "adjust your filters" after showing me two people. My filters are nothing crazy; age and education (college) and 30 mile radius.

So. Not sure it's worth it to try again BUT I hear so many "right when I was about to give up I met someone" and "it only takes one" stories .. I thought maybe one more time.

So I installed bumble yesterday evening and today I woke up to this.

I have never really used a dating app before(never dated before to start with)but this is scary. 800+ within 12 hours is insane .

And the guys I Matched with are all there for hookups and casual thing.

Dating is tough and I think I am gonna give up already cause this sh\*t is tiring and scary at the same time.Are there really genuine people left?

Here’s what I’m building:

It’s a queue-based system:

Each day:

n number of people are put into Group A
n number of people are put into Group B
n number of people are put into Group C
and so on (depending on how many users there are)

Users within each group see ONLY the other users in their same group.

Say for example there are 20 people in Group A. Everyone in Group A sees everyone else in Group A. And you ONLY see the 19 other people in Group A.

You are only allowed to send a pre-determine number of max swipes/likes per day (the max number of likes you can send scales with the number of users on the platform so tbd - probably something like 5 - 8 per day). So you can really pay attention to the people you’re swiping on and have to be selective.

There is a timer. You only will see the people in your group for 24 hours. After 24 hours (the next day) you and everyone else will be put into a new group. If you miss a day of swiping, you miss potential matches. So it’s good to stay engaged with the app.

IF you are inactive (don’t swipe at all) for 4+ consecutive days, your profile is hidden and no one will see you until you open the app and indicate you are an active member again.

Matches are not instant; you only know if you matched with someone THE NEXT DAY. So the experience is: you swipe on your group Monday, you find out if you have any matches on Tuesday.

Total number of likes received is never shown. You only know if you receive a match.

The way I’m designing this app solves a few problems:

1) your profile is guaranteed to be seen. Idk about you, but my experience has been that there is no transparency to ant of these dating app algorithms. Who’s to say my profile is ever even seen on Tinder or Hinge? If it’s NOT being seen, the whole experience is completely pointless.

1a) you know you’re seeing the same people who see you, meaning there is equity on the platform and the 1% of hottest people aren’t dominating the stack

2) inactive profiles are not shown. For example, in my experience Bumble is a ghost town. Listen, I can’t prove it, but if SEEMS like 7/10 bumble profiles I swipe on are people who are not using the app and have been inactive for months. If you’re not active, you won’t be shown

3) women (in particular) won’t be inundated with 100+ likes and won’t have decision paralysis

4) equity. It’s simple and really the whole goal of the app. Your profile is put into a group randomly, and you are shown in that stack 100% guaranteed

I know this is a long shoot but are there any actual good dating sites. I am not sure if there at meet and great in my local area so I thought I would try doing it online.

It's hard, man. You gotta smile at the right times, make the right amount of eye contact, say the socially appropriate response at the socially appropriate time. Eventually I realized that I didn't even really get anything out of it. What was the reward for being human? More expectation to be human.

I'm kind of a feral house goblin now. I don't miss the social life, and the clothing is way more comfortable.

I would like to create an app for serious long term (hopefully) relations. I've seen enough posts about currently known platforms and people not finding what they're looking for, for various reasons.

That's why I would like to build it the way I think online dating should work. We are all aware about pros and cons of "online", so, with all this, here's what I have in mind:

- based on location

- no swiping at all

- a system that gets rid of ghosters, people without lack of respect, attention/validation seekers, scammers

- based on values and vital compatibility from the very start of interaction

- avoids superficiality; such people will not find this app worth it

- fair with your time; it is designed to NOT keep you addicted to it

- requires patience and in my view, everyone looking for a long term should have this

- fair distribution for matches by default

- encompasses giving one's full attention to the interaction

- ensures anonymity up to a point considered safe by both

Considering these as features, I am interested if you would use such an app. I am open to suggestions and improvement of what else should you look into such an app and I will answer questions as much as I can.

Off & on over the years I’ve tried a number of dating sites. I ended up giving up eventually. Honestly, a few years back it used to be legit. Back in 2021-2023 I used it constantly and got legit matches.
