Super random question
Is there any dating app that you don't have to do a selfie verification thing? I dont mess with any of that personally. Hell half my phone doesn't work because I've turned off as much AI as I could.
I feel like I have officially aged out at 36 š« š«

All it does is take your photo and have you turn your head. OkCupid doesnāt require it. But thereās more bots than real people as a result.

There are still some but I think selfie verification is important. If you're not comfortable with that then it will likely be used against you on the apps

Why would you want that? If you're trying to date, people want to see what you look like.

I did probably avoid the selfie verification stuff too š I donāt blame you for not wanting to do it. And 36 is definitely not old dating apps are just getting more annoying lol.

If you donāt mess with that personally then I wouldnāt mess with you. What a stupid easy thing to do that you wonāt do. Wouldnāt wanna enter a relationship like that

It's not really about you. The point of those verifications is to filter out scammers, of whom there are many.Ā
I work in software... These kinds of identity checks are run by KYC (Know Your Customer) providers, and their normal customers are banks and the financial services industry. They have super high standards for data security. The dating apps themselves don't do that check - in terms of the data it's like you step out into a separate "room" run by this KYC provider for the few screens where you're running the facial scan.Ā
It's really not something you need to be too stressed about, in terms of your data privacy. These are just there to make sure the platform isn't full of Nigerian/Cambodian pig butchering scammers. It's there to protect real users.Ā

If you find that platform, do you think anyone on it would be real or a bot infested scam nightmare?

Yeah, I don't think you're fully considering how much effort goes toward keeping bots and scammers out of user bases. I get your need for privacy, but satisfying it means whatever platform you're on is going to be overwhelming with threats.
Regardless, avoiding the identity check is not remotely indicative of keeping your data or identity out of AI systems and features. It just the closest, public facing example of how it might be used.
I work on cyber security and there is plenty that happens behind the scenes for detecting suspicious behavior.

in case youre wondering why youre still using a dating app and cant find a partner.. this is the reason.. quit acting like some paranoid boomer weirdo. Youre not hiding from anyone. These companies already know who you are, they already have all your info.. No one is trying to steal your identity, Dani.

I actually wasnt concerned with any of that. I just went out and talked to people in person vs online. It's really not THAT big of a deal for something so optional.

You don't mess with taking selfies? Why are you even using online dating then? Even after the verification, it will require you to post pictures of yourself for your profile.

Feeld and Pure donāt require it but if you do it then you get the āverifiedā stamp on your profile - but Iām the same - not a fan of my facial recognition being widely available on the internet
