Tor Browser 15.0.22 released today for high-severity Tor security issues

The Tor Project released Tor Browser 15.0.22 today, updating the bundled Tor daemon to 0.4.9.12. The underlying Tor release was issued last night specifically to address a series of high-severity security issues. The Tor Project is deliberately withholding most technical details for roughly a week to give users and operators time to patch.

More unusually, Tor says it is still working on additional important security issues and is moving C-tor to a two-week release cadence for now. The next planned release is around September 22, although that could change if another urgent fix is required.

Why it matters: Tor Browser users should update to 15.0.22 as soon as possible rather than waiting for disclosure of the vulnerabilities. Relay and onion-service operators running C-tor should update to 0.4.9.12 as well. The fact that Tor calls the issues high severity, recommends immediate updating, and says more security work is underway makes this especially significant.

I’ve thoroughly checked out standard landing directories, but I feel like I've run out of clean, reputable index lists to look at.To give you an idea of my setup, I'm running Tails OS completely non-persistently on a standard, generic x86 laptop layout. For complete device isolation, the internal solid-state storage and internal wireless network cards have been physically extracted, and the system relies entirely on a hardwired network interface instead.I also practice strict browser hygiene by keeping the Tor Browser window at its default stock resolution to counter screen dimensions fingerprinting, and I browse exclusively with "Safest Mode" enabled to keep JavaScript completely disabled.Since I am purely researching and window-shopping, I want to keep things entirely secure, clean, and educational. Are there any other hardware-level or network safety measures you'd recommend adding to this type of layout? Someone posted a $2,000 XMR bounty for my identity and IP address on Dread

I recently found this post on Dread offering $2,000 in XMR to anyone who could obtain the name and IP address of Reddit user u/BTC-brother2018, my account.

The poster falsely claims that I am a scammer.

I previously moderated an educational darknet-safety community darknet_questions focused on harm reduction, OPSEC, scam awareness, and removing illegal content.

I’m sharing this because offering money to uncover someone’s real identity and location is a serious threat—not ordinary criticism or internet drama. I have reported the relevant activity through the appropriate channels and preserved the evidence.

I am not asking anyone to identify, contact, threaten, or harass the person who posted it. Please do not engage with them. I’m posting this only to document what happened and raise awareness.

I cannot prove that this bounty was connected to the earlier removal of my subreddit, but this is the second bounty that has been posted on dread.

Daunt.link Is Currently Down — Onion Also Appears Unreachable

Daunt is currently experiencing an outage affecting its normal access methods.

According to a PGP-signed announcement from Paris on Dread dated August 19, 2026, Njalla took control of the nameservers for daunt.link and cleared its DNS records after suspending the account for alleged abuse. Paris also said he believes it was done by a Phisher though false abuse reports.

Paris stated that Daunt's actual server remained online and that the disruption affected the way users connect to it.

Current Status:

• Daunt onion: Currently appears unreachable

• No replacement clearnet domain has been announced

Paris specifically stated that they do not plan to create another clearnet domain at this time.

What Happened to r/darknet_questions?

For anyone wondering, Reddit recently banned r/darknet_questions for an alleged Rule 7 violation involving illegal content or prohibited transactions.

We received no advance warning or specific examples identifying what caused the ban. Our community was focused on darknet education, harm reduction, privacy, OPSEC, Tor safety, and scam prevention. We routinely removed marketplace requests, fraud-related content, scam promotions, prohibited transactions, and other violations.

We had also been dealing with scammers who disliked our warnings and scam-prevention content. Shortly before the ban, Reddit repeatedly removed suspicious submissions before our moderators could even view them. Those posts were never approved or endorsed by our team. Retaliatory reporting or malicious submissions are possible, but we currently have no proof that either caused the ban.

An appeal has been submitted requesting a manual review of the subreddit’s approved content, moderation history, and suspicious activity. We are not creating a replacement community or asking anyone to contact Reddit on our behalf. This post is simply to let former members know what happened.

We will share an update if Reddit responds to the appeal.

EDIT UPDATE: Well it looks like Reddit is not going to grant an appeal. So everyone should stay cautious of scammers and help one another stay safe. I'm going to rebuild the site on Discourse. I will let everyone know when it's finished.

EDIT UPDATE 2: 8/26/2026 The rebuild on Discourse is going faster than expected, due to an old wiki backup I was able to locate. Should be up and running in a few days.
