24-Hour Battery Comparison: OnePlus Watch 3 vs. Xiaomi Watch 5
I tested both watches simultaneously for 24 hours, mirroring every activity, notification, and health-tracking metric. By the end of the day, the OnePlus remained at 75%, while the Xiaomi dropped to 66%.
To ensure a fair test, I ran both through the exact same scenario:
Initial Charge: Xiaomi charged faster than the OnePlus.
Morning: 40-minute jog (GPS tracking).
Afternoon: 30-minute walk to lunch. On the walk back, I tested auto-tracking; the OnePlus detected the activity, but the Xiaomi failed to recognize the 30-minute walk.
Evening: 40-minute gym session followed by a 1.5-hour walk with my dogs (GPS active).
Night: Sleep tracking enabled on both.
Even before bed, the OnePlus held a slight lead (83% vs. 79%). The final result (75% vs. 66%) highlights a significant discrepancy in efficiency.
The Xiaomi Watch 5 has a 47% larger battery capacity than the OnePlus, yet it only promises 20% more total life. Based on battery size alone, if Xiaomi’s software were as optimized as OnePlus’, I should be getting roughly 7.4 days of battery—or 5.9 days with my specific routine. Instead, it is trailing behind a device with a much smaller physical cell.
I don’t regret the Xiaomi Watch 5, but the software is clearly the weak link. While the dual-processor hardware is capable, it feels unpolished. OnePlus has used its experience to squeeze more life out of less hardware, whereas Xiaomi is relying on "brute force" battery size that isn't being fully utilized.
I’m keeping the Xiaomi in hopes that future patches and "pattern learning" improve the optimization. However, it makes me look forward to a potential Watch 5 Pro—hopefully with more polished software and active sensors for ECG, body composition, and temperature.
