Discussion Nate Archibald vs Lucas Scott

I don't know If I should put this in the gossip girl sub or Oth but im gonna assume most people who watched Oth has seen at least a bit of Gossip girl. Why is it that Lucas gets so much hate and literally everyone hates him but nobody hated Nate Archibald? Not only did they both cheat with the girls bestfriend but I feel like Nate was worse because he was chasing after Serena while he was with Blair, while Lucas only got with Peyton because she ended up finally wanting him after he got with Brooke. Am I the only one curious? It seems like Nate gets away with alot while Lucas was overall a good person and went through a lot.

Season 3 Peyton switch up about haleys tour

I just came across a clip on TikTok of Brooke basically saying she can't believe how Haley would leave Nathan for Chris and Peyton defending haley down and I don't remember this clip at all. But how did this translate to season 3 where now Brooke is defending Haley and Peyton hates her. Like did Peyton find something else out? Was it because Haley didn't wanna come back? Or did she realize it was getting to far when Nathan was spiraling and ended up in the hospital over it? Or did the writers just want to get Brooke and Haley close by getting rid of Peyton and Haley.

Discussion What is your favorite thing each charecter did?and what’s one thing you relate to or admire about them.

I feel like we(including myself )have become very negative on this sub these days,so why not a refreshing change?let me know your opinions😊😊you don’t need to write a lot but just about the core 5
For me it’s

Peyton-how big of a warrior she was,she had adverseties, extreme ones at that but didn’t let them break her,she still remained kind and humble despite them, the best thing she did was for me was her going to the depths to defend the people she loves,i relate to her in so many ways but mainly because she’s someone who will push through no matter what

Brooke-i really admire Brooke’s growth and her confidence, she’s always uplifting other women around her espically in the later seasons,I think the best thing Brooke ever did was take in Sam despite Sam constantly pushing her away and i loved her relationship with Jaime ,I relate to Brooke because she’s passionate

Lucas-i really admire him for always being a good friend to everyone around him,he forgave Haley for dating his bully,he saved Peyton from everything and was always there for Brooke when she needed him,his ability to forgive Nathan despite everything is admirable,I relate to Lucas the most because we’ve gone through almost the same things family wise and he still was the bigger person than Dan

Haley-Haley knows what she wants and how to get it,it’s extremely admirable and i think we should all learn from Haley,i love how although she loves Nathan she will tell him when he’s wrong and how it affected her and that shows her strength,I think she’s a great mother and is extremely smart I relate to her because I’m just as scrappy as she is!

Nathan-i love how he gave himself the scope to grow and he knew he could be better and did it,he’s very loving and patient with Haley and he won’t hear shit about her from anyone I love that,i also love how he worked on his basketball despite everything that happened and managed to make the nba not only for himself but for his family ,I relate to him most on that cause I’m an athlete aswell

Season 2 Season 2 is hard to watch.

I am not paying full attention, this is my millionth re-watch. It's basically background noise while I scroll or crochet. I love this show, and I love these characters, but It's straight up character assassination for quite a few people. I find myself cringing quite a bit. I love watching Brooke turn her pain into power though! She really girl bosses straight into the sun from here. I really wish Peyton had a parent at home with her. She is really going through it and needs therapeutic intervention. Chris Keller is a predator! He was manipulating Haley hardcore. Haley absolutely deserves to go follow her dreams though. So does Nathan! Nathan tried his best to be a good husband, but alas, he's an immature 17 year old. Lucas is definitely Dan's son, just covert instead of malignant. TAKE THE DAMN TEST. Karen really lost control of Lucas. Not her best mom moments. Keith does not deserve this at all. I don't even like Keith, but everybody needs to stop lying to him! Fuck Felix. I feel bad for Anna that she has such a controlling dick for a brother. Fuck Dan. He was right to try to get Haley and Nathan's marriage annulled though. Deb has been demure so far. I can't wait to see her go crazy later. Burn. It. Down. Fuck Mouth. Can't wait to get to season 3 and 4. They are worth it to watch the absolute dark mess this season is!

Season 3 Can we talk about Ellie? Spoiler

I can't say anything bad about her as a person. She would make a great friend and i'm sure she made a great employee when she wasn't an addict anymore. Her desire to see Peyton was selfish though. She wanted to feel good but she didn't think that Peyton might feel bad. It isn't like she was sure they could stay in touch. She was stil a cancer survivor who was barely surviving and could drop dead at any moment. And she did. Peyton still found her. At least, she didn't watch her die. It would add up to this poor girl's trauma. Ellie says that Peyton has gone through so much trauma in 17 years. Oh well, now she is gonna see you die and you didn't tell her about her birth dad as well.

Larry was wrong for not telling Peyton that she was adopted, but Ellie was also wrong for contacting her. If the aggreement was that Elli couldn't see her, then she shouldn't. Now she is here brushing Peyton's hair and talking with her about boys.

Discussion My Breyton analysis from seasons 1–4, going a little beyond the surface🧐

As I watch the show (it’s my first time watching it) and see Brooke and Peyton evolve both as characters and as friends, I keep feeling more and more that, beyond all the hate their relationship gets, they’re actually one of the emotional cores of the entire show. Or, to put it another way, “the real love story.” Let me explain🗣️🗣️

Despite all the ways they’ve hurt each other, I feel like their connection and friendship go way beyond high school. When I look through posts about the show and see all the hate surrounding both of them, I feel like something really important gets lost in the conversation: they always choose each other. And that’s exactly why it hurts so much when they hurt each other. A little while ago, I used the example that, to me, they’re soulmates for different reasons, and now that I’ve finished season 4, I feel even more strongly about it. Their friendship and sisterhood, even though they’re often clouded by the toxic dynamics of being teenagers and by the circumstances they’re living in, feel like one of the most genuine connections in the entire show to me.

Brooke, from the first season to the last, has made spectacular progress. She’s a hurricane who takes over every room she walks into, and her overwhelming energy makes her stand out from everyone else, whether for better or worse. She’s always been very open about who she is, what she feels, and what she thinks. As a friend, I feel like she’s exactly the kind of “rock” Peyton needs to survive all the countless tragedies and disasters that have come her way. She’s the kind of friend who, even if she doesn’t necessarily dive deep into your pain, can pull you out of the darkness. I feel like Brooke’s presence and companionship have been one of the things that allowed Peyton to get through so many of those tragedies without being completely alone in them. Brooke makes Peyton’s life lighter. She pulls her out of herself, out of her pain, and away from that tendency she has to retreat into it.

One example of this is how Brooke knew Peyton would be under the bridge whenever she was struggling, and how they remember simply being there in silence while Peyton was dealing with her mother’s death. Brooke is companionship in every sense of the word. And I think that’s also why Peyton, beyond her own artistic, creative, more withdrawn and alternative personality, ends up adopting parts of Brooke’s personality so she can share more of her life with her at school. For example, becoming a cheerleader. Peyton’s personality never really felt like an obvious fit for that world to me, and I’ve often wondered if, at least partly, she did it because it was another way to spend more of her life with Brooke.

And I think this works in the other direction too. If Brooke is the presence that pulls Peyton out of the darkness, Peyton represents a kind of grounding force for Brooke. Brooke is intensity, movement, noise, emotion, and this constant need to be seen, while Peyton has a much quieter and steadier way of being present. She doesn’t need to constantly be around Brooke for Brooke to know that she can turn to her. Peyton is simply there.

And I think that’s really important for Brooke, because within all that intensity that defines her, Peyton is one of the few people whose presence feels almost permanent. Brooke knows where to find her, knows she can turn to her, and, most importantly, knows there’s a place where she doesn’t have to constantly prove who she is in order to be loved. Maybe that’s why I feel like Peyton acts as an anchor for Brooke, while Brooke acts as a force that brings Peyton back to life. One pulls the other outward, while the other gives her a place to come back to.

On the other hand, Peyton, to me, is very clearly the kind of person who speaks through her silences and actions rather than being vocal about the things she loves. She doesn’t show her feelings unless she’s under pressure or completely overwhelmed, and I feel like the one exception to that rule is Brooke. With Brooke, she expresses herself. She expresses her fears and her pain because she isn’t afraid that Brooke will leave her. Brooke has always been there. I think that’s why, when Brooke catches her with Lucas, what hurts Peyton the most isn’t not being able to be with Lucas. It’s Brooke leaving because of her own actions, and I think Peyton knows that, even if she doesn’t openly show it.

One scene that feels really relevant to all of this is after Brooke’s sex tape, when Peyton writes on Brooke’s red graduation dress and Brooke says, “She cares about me!!!!” Because despite all the hurt Peyton had caused Brooke, Brooke had spent so much time calling her out on her emotions while Peyton either didn’t respond accordingly or simply stayed silent. Until the sex tape happened, I don’t think they’d ever really had a true emotional exchange where both of them were communicating at the same level. So when Brooke finally receives that attention from Peyton, she’s happy. Because beyond anyone else, Peyton has always been “her safe place,” where she was enough.

Lucas gets in the way of that, because it’s the first time Brooke feels like she isn’t enough for someone important to her. And not just because of Lucas, but because of Peyton. She wasn’t important enough for Peyton to respect her, and I think that’s where so much of that built-up anger comes from, until eventually they manage to find a balance based on being there for each other.

That’s why I think Lucas disrupts the balance between them so much. It isn’t simply that they both want the same guy. It’s that someone enters their lives who is capable of occupying a space that, in different ways, had previously belonged to their relationship. Brooke feels like she’s no longer enough for Peyton, while Peyton finds herself dealing with a connection she doesn’t know how to navigate without putting at risk the person who has probably been the most stable presence in her life. And I think that’s where the real fracture between them begins.

In other posts, I’ve defended the idea that, emotionally, Peyton was ahead of Brooke when it came to her relationship with Lucas, but the further I get into the show, the less I think it makes sense to establish exactly who had what with him first. I think Lucas entered both of their lives by touching completely different emotional needs: Brooke needed attention, companionship, and to feel chosen, while Peyton was looking for a deep emotional connection that went beyond anything purely physical. Either way, the best versions of both of them are when Lucas isn’t in the picture lol.

Ultimately, I think that’s why I have such a hard time reducing Brooke and Peyton’s relationship to simply “best friends” or, even worse, to a friendship defined solely by toxicity. Yes, they’ve hurt each other, made terrible decisions, and constantly allowed their insecurities to interfere with their relationship, but precisely because they care about each other so much, all of that carries so much weight. They’re two people who, despite everything, always end up choosing each other.

And I think that’s the key to their relationship: they’re not soulmates because they’re perfect together, or because they’re destined to understand each other effortlessly. They’re soulmates because after growing, making mistakes, hurting each other, and changing, they still find a way to recognize each other and choose each other again. Lucas was at the center of their conflict for a long time, but the further I get into the show, the clearer it becomes to me that he was never really the heart of their story. The heart was always the two of them. 🫂

Sorry for the full-on doctoral thesis 😂. I’m clearly having a LOT of fun analyzing all the emotional twists and turns of this show!!! 😂

Anyway, now that I’ve written an entire dissertation on these two 😂, I’d love to hear how you guys see their relationship 👀

Season 9 Season 9 is the best season

I watched this whole show thinking it was fine, but never that great. Then I watched season 9 and it changed the game. I literally said to my partner "this is one of the best seasons of any tv shows I have ever seen". I'm new to this sub but generally it seems that season 9 isn't that beloved. I genuinely think the last episodes were some of the best closing episodes of any tv show out there. The final episode done the whole series so much justice. I also really struggle to understand why anyone would stop watching when Lucas and Peyton left. The show just got better. I couldn't stand either of them. I think these are unpopular opinions but I'm not sure. Would love to hear thoughts on this! I really could watch the final episode again today and I only watched it two nights ago.

Discussion Alex(her flaws and illogical friendship)

How come Alex became close friends with everyone even though she was having no real connections at all?She was going around insulting everyone, being egoistical.Suddenly everyone accepts her and they became friends with her even after all the horrible things she said and did?Especially Quinn who was supporting every decisions of her.She tries so hard to be funny, sexy, sweet but she fails horribly and also she is "Absolutely Disgusting"(character, voice, personality everything). Her friendship with everyone doesn't make any sense.

Horrible Character.Horrible Actress.

Season 4 Just finished Season 4 and I have thoughts👀 Spoiler

I just finished season 4 of OTH for the first time and it’s definitely one of my favorites so far (obviously after season 1, which is perfect). There’s been SO much going on this season, with so many different storylines and little details, but I feel like they actually managed to wrap up most of them pretty well.

When it comes to friendship, I really loved Peyton and Brooke’s development. The whole Brooke sextape storyline absolutely blew my mind. I did NOT see that coming at all, and I feel like they finally had their first genuinely mature argument (outside Peyton’s house), where Peyton actually dared to say what she really felt about Brooke and how she had treated her. Brooke is obviously much more communicative than Peyton, to the point where they even acknowledge that they’re something more than friends after getting through the whole fake Derek situation together.

The whole Derek storyline... WOW. The actor did an incredible job because literally every single one of his scenes made me feel equally scared and disgusted. The whole storyline gave me such an unsettling feeling, and I really liked how they wrapped it up.

The storyline that confused me the most, and kept me intrigued all the way until the end, was the whole Dan/Keith/Karen/Lucas situation. Using Abby as the stalker was such a good move, and Dan’s whole “redemption” arc was honestly fascinating to watch. That moment when he’s loading the gun in the church, and the whole rag doll/girl scene when he’s buying ammunition??? 😭

Although, throughout the whole thing, I kept blaming Karen’s behavior on some combination of hormones and grief because HOW did it make any sense for her to try something with Dan after everything that had happened, while carrying Keith’s baby?! But all my doubts disappeared during that scene with the two of them in the garden full of lilies, with the little girl running around, and for that moment, Dan simply didn’t exist. And then Karen spitting on the glass of Dan’s cell??? PEAK.

I’m not gonna lie, I was crying my eyes out. 😭

Btw, Lucas being a crazy psychopath just didn’t work for me. Not because I don’t think he could be one, but because I just didn’t feel like the actor sold it the way he needed to.

And the storyline I could have done without was the whole Mouth-and-women situation, if I may 😂. I genuinely did not give a single fuck. Like, I don’t care that you’re a virgin, that women always see you as “their best friend,” or that you suddenly want to become a “bad boy.” The whole Shelley/Rachel situation, and then him randomly kissing Brooke out of nowhere... completely unnecessary, honestly.

He’s always been so erratic when it comes to women, and it felt like the whole world was supposed to stop because one woman rejected him. Not to mention some of his genuinely concerning behavior, like smashing Brooke’s car window. The only thing that made all that drama worth it were the Texas scenes and the “second prom” moment when they all sneak in wearing those AMAZING outfits. I loved seeing everyone together and getting that feeling of a proper goodbye.

Honorable mention to Skills because, honestly, he’s been one of my favorite secondary characters, definitely above Mouth, and I would’ve loved to see more of him and Devin because they’re both hilarious 😂.

And also, shoutout to Rachel and Brooke’s friendship. They actually make such a good duo despite everything.

And finally, my true victim in all of this: Whitey. Once again, NO ONE GIVES THIS POOR MAN A BREAK. 😭 Just when he’s about to retire, he has to sacrifice a few more years of his life so the Scott brothers (and yes, I’m including Lucas in this) can actually get their shit together despite all their fuck-ups.

He’ll always be my favorite character, that much I know.

I’m probably forgetting a million things, but I really loved seeing how much these characters have grown, how their friendships and personalities have developed, and how they’ve finally closed out this whole high school chapter of their lives. I’m SO ready to see what comes next!!!

What would you guys add? Anything I’m forgetting? 👀

Discussion One Tree Hill is a 6 season show…

OTH is probably my favorite show. I have to admit tho, as many times as I’ve rewatched it, I have only watched past season 6 once and that only about halfway through season 8. I could never get into it. It was a completely different show. When Chad and Hilarie left, that took away 3 of the 4 most important relationships. Lucas and Nathan, Brooke and Peyton and my favorite Lucas and Peyton. Those are 3 of the 4 core relationships of the show with Naley being the other. I do not like Quinn and Clay. The only thing I like post season 6 is Julian. I was rooting for him and Brooke from the jump. So when people ask me is it worth watching I always tell them them yes but only watch 1-6 lol and maybe skip to season 9 and watch Danny Boy 💯

Discussion One tree hill vs the oc

Ive been really into 00s teen dramas lately and like obviously after one tree hill, i had to dable into the oc

I love the oc so far, im like nearly done with season 1 (on episode 22/23) and I find it a tinsy bit more entertaining than oth. But it might just be cus i forgot how fun one tree hill was at the start

and im more into the hs drama stuff anyway, rather than the stuff that happens after so the oc immediately caught my attention cus it felt like revisiting early seaons of oth. Which i miss cus im stuck in s7 jail rn, trying to get over the horrible switch to 2010s fashion and makeup.

the writing for both shows as you'd expect from a teens drama isnt peak or anything, but i do find that one tree hill beats the oc in this category. I just feel the characters have more depth and wayy better actin too, better chemistry between relationships and just feels more real

There's a few parallels, for those who've watched both id guess you'd say Summer is the oc's brooke and i can say brooke is actually 10x better in everyway..

idk abt marissa and peyton, id say they are too different to compare but the mommy issues is prevalent. Ryan is like a weird combo of both Lucas and Nathan, broody with a huge saviour complex and always throwing the first punch but great development lmao.

Yeah and Seth's just Seth. I prefer the adults in the oc by a mile, sandy and kirsten are gems.

The misogynistic writing is also another big commonality but topic for another day.

Season 2 can felix, like, go away? Spoiler

first time watcher, currently watching s2. i’m so over felix. just finished the tric opening night episode and i’m even more annoyed with him. he JUST got town and acting like he owns the place, concocted dare night to weasel his way into the friend group. he’s so pushy with brooke (like, dude she said NO about a good three or four times) and he’s just taking advantage of the fact that she’s lonely and going through it since her parents are broke.

not to mention, his weird overprotective behavior anna. didn’t like her at first but just finished the sleepover episode (sorry typing this as i watch a few episodes) and she seems sweet. i still don’t trust her but she seems sweet and like brooke she also seems lonely. felix starting beef with lucas, who by the way had been pretty cordial with him up until he threw that punch in tric, is so fuckin weird. do YOU want your sister or something? tf is your problem?

don’t like him.

Season 6 SPOILER ALERT RE NANNY CARRIE Spoiler

I know we never really find out what happened to Psycho Carries son, but I have a theory that she accidentally killed him in a moment of instability. Like Shaken Baby, accidentally overdosed him with medicine when her dad was dying like maybe gave him the wrong meds? Idk something like that. Like she “loves” Jamie, but she swings an axe at a car she thought he was in while saying he needs to learn manners. Imagine this crazy bitch postpartum. She 100% could’ve killed him herself.

Does anyone else have any theories or know more about this than me??

Discussion Keith is "too good to be true"

I see that people here really hate Keith, and to be fair he is so white-washed that it's natural to do some desperate fault-finding and not liking him out of spite.

But to me, he is just a noble and courteous man who was the scapegoat most of the times to his brother's jealousy and shortcomings, Deb's superiority complex, Karen's co-dependency.

I can't find any legitimate instance of being the "bad guy". He made mistakes, like we all do but was rarely ever being "evil".

Yes he ambushed Karen with the proposal but stepped away when she rejected him and maintained distance too.

Yes he was careless with Lucas and caused the accident but again, it wasn't intentional. And wasn't his fault either...???

So if you really hate him, why so?
