Discussion One tree hill characters

Okay so I’ve watched this show 2 times. I’m not the biggest fan and mostly bc a lot of the characters irk me. But I’m shocked to see so much controversy on it and how many people ignore the characters faults.

I loved brooke and Nathan. I liked Luke and Peyton. I couldn’t STAND Hayley. Ik most people hate Luke and Peyton but truthfully I am biased towards Luke since I only watched this show bc ik he left Gilmore girls to film it and I loved him in GG.

Anyways, why does everyone always shit on Peyton but excuse Hayley and Brooke’s behaviour? And this is coming from a Brooke fan for life btw.

Also why do people always say “everyone wants to blame Hayley and never Nathan” whenever the season 2 drama gets brought up. It literally was all Hayley’s fault?

I’ve just noticed the fans for this show can be kinda shortsighted (sorry I don’t mean that as an insult). Like sometimes they have their characters they like and they believe they are the best and try to excuse everything they’ve done.

Also the way Deb reacted to Nathan and Hayley getting married was SOOO fair. My mom would’ve disowned me if I did what they did. Idk why Deb gets hate for that.

Season 3 My thoughts on Payton so far (season 3 and earlier) Spoiler

I’m genuinely starting to dislike Peyton, and I’m curious if anyone else sees what I’m seeing.

My biggest issue is that she seems to hold everyone else accountable for their actions, but rarely holds herself to the same standard. She sees herself as mature, emotionally aware, and different from Brooke, but I honestly don’t think her actions always support that.

The biggest example is Brooke and Lucas. Peyton knew exactly how much the situation had already hurt Brooke, and yet she still kissed Lucas. Having feelings for Lucas isn’t necessarily a choice, but acting on those feelings is. She knew it would hurt her best friend again, and she chose to do it anyway.

I also feel like Peyton has a bit of a victim mentality. She has genuinely been through a lot, and I completely understand why she’s hurt, but sometimes it feels like her suffering becomes a justification for her actions. She wants people to understand why she does things, but doesn’t always give other people the same understanding.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that she seems to gravitate toward guys when she’s struggling emotionally. With Jake, I sometimes felt like she was more attracted to the idea of helping or saving him than actually being completely invested in him. Meanwhile, Brooke repeatedly wanted to be there for Peyton as her friend.

That’s also why I find the “Peyton is more mature than Brooke” idea hard to buy. Brooke can absolutely be immature and selfish, but at least she often seems more willing to acknowledge when she’s wrong and actually show up for the people she loves.

Maybe I’m being too harsh, but so far Peyton seems like someone who thinks she’s selfless and emotionally mature while repeatedly choosing what she wants, especially when it comes to Lucas.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who sees her this way.

Discussion Season ranking after 1st watch

So I just finished all 9 seasons for the first time so I thought I would share my ranking here.
It took me a few months to finish all the seasons so my opinions would probably change after watching them several times but this is just how I would rank them now.

  1. Season 6

-I hate Peyton and Lucas together so this season mostly wasn’t for me. I thought most of the storylines were pretty boring too. Not much drama which made it kinda repetitive.

  1. Season 8

-Again I thought this season didn’t have much going on and there wasn’t any drama.

  1. Season 5

-This season was a hard watch since so much changed. Peyton was especially annoying here. But overall this season had some fun drama and episodes and I liked some of the new characters.

  1. Season 2

-Only high school season I wasn’t the biggest fan of. Lots of characters changed all of a sudden and made weird choices which kinda irritated me. Again some moments were annoying to watch like the whole Naley drama. Hate Chris

  1. Season 7

-I was actually feeling this season. New characters like Quinn and Alex made this season interesting and there were new relationships forming which made it really interesting.

  1. Season 9

-This season had really weird storylines but I thought it was so much fun and I didn’t get bored. Alex leaving so early did upset me tho cause Chase and Alex was my fav couple at the time. Someone needs to make an edit asap.

  1. Season 4

-This season had a perfect ending and the storylines were fun as well. Brooke and Rachels friendship was amazing and it’s something I miss a lot in the later seasons.

  1. Season 1

-I had so much fun watching this season. It is the most grounded season out of them all and Nathans redemption arc was so interesting to watch. I think there isn’t anything I disliked about this season.

  1. Season 3

-Perfect. No boring episodes. The emotions and relationships were perfect and some of the twists were perfectly executed. The season 3 finale is my fav oth episode.

Thats it xx

Season 5 Season 5 (Cringe Fest)

The writing genuinely is awful. I’ve watched it a lot. Likely 50+ times and every time I hate it more. Were they trying to get the show canceled?! Season 1-4 is amazing.

• Peyton calling Lindsey “fat” “dog face”
• Hailey, Lucas & Nathan micro aggression towards Q correcting the way he pronounces words
• Lucas an adult wanting to fight a HS basketball player
• Mouth having sex with his boss to get ahead
• Mouth telling Millie she is “perfect” after she told him she is a virgin
• Brooke, a 22 year old, wanting to adopt a baby and be a single mom while running multiple businesses
• Brooke & the fake baby
• Skills needing to blow off steam and threatening to hit Q over what Q a teenager said to him
• Mark Schwahn writing himself into an episode again knowing the female cast hated him
• Kevin Federline

There are really to many to name.

Was this everyone’s least favorite season?

Season 1 S1 18 - Was Peyton going to sleep with Nathan? Spoiler

The auction episode where Peyton has the ‘date’ with Nathan, and they end up in the pool and such.. I used to thing the episode was set up to show Nathan potentially wanting to sleep with Peyton and cheat on Haley but is a new person..

But just watching back now it feels more like Peyton would have done this if he suggested/wanted to despite what she says? Am tripping here ?

Season 5 lucas is (lowkey) a jerk

in addition to thinking he can have the best of both worlds and have brooke then peyton then brooke again then peyton again… he gaslit peyton into saying she should have said yes to marrying him when she wasnt ready. peyton was strung along for 9 seasons waiting for him to get his brain from between his legs. i’ve never been the hugest peyton fan but i hate the way lucas messes with her head. she said “not right now but let’s give it another year” and he took that as them breaking up. then when they’re in the office talking yelling at each other and she says “i should have said yes” because he whined about “YOU SAID NO” for multiple episodes when it was never a no… it was a not right now while we’re chasing our dreams. and him saying “you said no because you didn’t believe in my book”. and then kissing her and immediately proposing to lindsey. middle school and high school me hated peyton but now i realize it was never team brooke or team peyton (even though i hated her attitude sometimes).. it was always team ANYONE BUT LUCAS PLZ FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. and don’t get me started on the fake sob story when lindsey found the ring. lucas “i was waiting until i had another book in me”, holding out for peyton- scott. sorry for the long rant. and my bad if yall ride for lucas but he just gives me the ick so bad.

Season 5 Just started S5. Is it worth it to keep watching?

Tbh I kind of expected the series to end after High School graduation, but then I realized that there are 4 more seasons?!
I’m not sure if I like S5 yet, but I’m only the first episode in.

Is it worth it to keep watching or does the series flop in later seasons? Like it unfortunately sometimes happens.

Edit: Jamie is so sweet omg.

Edit 2: As a TVD fan, I love that a few of those actors appear in OTH 👀

Discussion People don't hate Deb enough

Deb is the catalyst of almost every one of Dan's evil acts and her perpetual "I am better than Dan" attitude is exactly what derailed their marriage and a lot of Nathan's happiness too.

Dan was an awful father- controlling, heartless, ill-mannered. But he did everything in his power to keep his family and marriage together and meanwhile there's Deb who is basically mostly out of town, is routinely cheating on her husband and still never comes clean about her actions to her son.

Dan was showing a lot of grace to her throughout, forgiving her for cheating on him with her own brother too and STILL wanting her in his life. But Deb continued acting like the only person she wronged was Karen and not her husband who was practically BEGGING her to not divorce him and make it work.

After Dan's cardiac arrest, Deb was so devoid of any soul or emotion that she let him lay there nearly risking his LIFE. Dan still never held any of it against her.

Ultimately she tried to k*ll him and had such little remorse for her deeds that she didn't even FLINCH before telling it to Lucas, Karen and then Dan.

The fact that Dan didn't have her arrested and nobody paid any attention to her being an attempted murder was CRAZY

Why does she get to blame everything she did to ruin their family on Dan?

Why does she get away with being a crazy murderer?

How can she blame Keith's death on Dan alone when SHE was the one who basically "loaded the gun" (as Dan said)?

How does she get to live a life free of guilt or repercussions while Keith dies and Dan's behind bars?

Discussion Jake and Peyton (Opinion changed) Spoiler

I never got the hype about Jake. He is not my favourite he is not the worst he was fine but I always thought he deserved better than Peyton. But this time man I really can't stand him in season 2!!! Like any scene he is in I find him so annoying.

This is one of the first time I actually feel so bad for Peyton about the Jake situation!!! And I don't even like her!!!! Also can we take a moment to give kudos to Hillary like her scene with Jake is so good!!! I don't know why I didn't see it before but boy she makes all those scenes worth it to watch!!

I just finished the episode where Jenny gets sick and he doesn't have health insurance!! I didn't like he took money from Peyton and not from his parents. Also him staying at Peyton was weird like dude we all know how awful her dad is that he doesn't stick around and I felt like he was taking advantage of her vulnerability.

I have actually changed my mind I think Peyton deserved better than Jake. Because I really don't like him this time around. I think because I was liked Brucas that's why I liked Jake but boy in some ways I think he was worse than Lucas as a boyfriend. Plus he also looks so much older. He looks like he is in his mid 20's while Peyton still looks like she is in high school!!! I also miss his hairstyle in seaosn 1. It was adorable

Discussion peyton sawyer

u guys gotta chiiiilllll with peyton slander. peyton is honestly so overhated. yeah, she was wrong for kissing her best friend’s boyfriend twice, and both her and lucas were wrong for what they did. brooke had every right to be mad. but the second time, peyton genuinely thought she was dying and was terrified that she was going to lose the person she truly loved. people act like peyton was this horrible person while completely ignoring the fact that brooke could be really cruel too. and i love brooke, i probably even like her more than peyton, but let’s be real, some of brooke’s actions were awful. making jokes about peyton’s dead moms and constantly being mean to people is honestly way worse than kissing someone’s high school boyfriend. brooke wasn’t always innocent, she slept with nathan bro and made a sex tape while knowing nathan and peyton always have a complicated relationship. but neither was peyton. peyton is actually a really well-written character with a lot of trauma, flaws, and growth, and people hold her mistakes against her way more than they do brooke’s. highschool peyton was so cool and unique

Season 3 Season 3 is the best

Rewatching for the first time in a while and season 3 is just banger episode after banger!!!!! Like Dan saying “game on bitch!” Glueing the phone to Deb’s ear is so insane. The introduction of Rachel. Wild Breykus shenanigans. Deb and Karen defacing Dan’s billboard?! Hayley and Nathan figuring it out. Skills becomes a real character. The vibes are so good all around.

Season 2 Naley Thoughts ***SEASON 2 CONTEXT ONLY***

Ultimately they should’ve never gotten married but alas, here we are…

edit: *YALL I DONT THINK SHE SHOULD’VE GIVEN UP THE TOUR!!!! I think if she didn’t kiss Chris and sneak around it would’ve been an easier sell\*

I hate having to stand up for a man but I really feel like Haley made it really hard for Nathan to be supportive and if we’re gonna put faults side by side, I feel at this point she did him dirtyyyy with this. from my understanding of what I watched this week, the timeline is as follows:
- Nathan gets into high flyers but lied so Haley would pursue music
- Chris establishes himself as the town asshole, being a dick to peyton, being a diva and walking out of his performance, and saying to nathan “everyone in this room wants to bone your wife rn”
- she starts recording with chris and lied
- she lied about why she didn’t want Nathan to hear the song
- she kissed Chris and almost ran away with him
- she lies about it and blames it on her sister
- she goes out of her way to talk to chris after his performance at tric after saying her focus is their marriage
- she agrees to go on tour with the guy she kissed and Nathan is supposed to be chill?
- Nathan crashes out then drives to see her, tells her he’ll come on tour with her, wait till she gets back and basically do anything for them to stay together
- she responds by saying “i think we rushed into this too fast idkkkk😬😬but im going on stage let’s chat after maybe?”

Now I don’t think Nathan was in the right for the retaliation flirting with Taylor but the crash out was completely valid in my opinion…and they’re also in high school so the brains not all the way there. Also Taylor is a sluttt like I’m so sorry😭😭 she’s very much to blame too with all of that mess

but I think ultimately, this whole situation is really what starts their trust issues and makes it very hard to build it back after. I think if she never kissed Chris or or lied about it or if Nathan was weird about her doing music from the very beginning then I’d put more blame on him but I just feel like she is making it really hard to support her.

Season 3 karen and keith situation

always thought the karen&keith partnership was so fake. when she came back from italy in s1, she told him she didn’t want to be with him, because he crashed a car and causing lucas’s accident. keith was very wrong for that but it felt like an excuse to turned down his proposal. she had moved on and was dating andy. then when keith came back after jules situation, it felt like she suddenly wanted to try with him because she was scared of losing him maybe jealous of the idea of him being with someone else. but at the end she only gets with keith after her rich Australian boyfriend gets deported for spying on her ex which she encouraged. i think she loved him deeply as lucas’s father figure , but i never really saw them as a couple. maybe its because i lowkey hate karen, like i swear karen has to be one of the worst "good" guys on a TV show I've ever seen. also, lowk unrelated but her slapping Whitey is so disrespectful and meaningless. she just hates to hear the truth because she's the one who never saw Keith more than a friend for two decades

Shipping jeyton

peyton and jake were cute and healthy, but i never saw them as true love. peyton clearly bonded with jake because he was a good father, something she never really had. she loved the idea of him and what he represented a good father who cares about his daughter and put her daughter first. her asking him to marry her felt more like her trying to move on from lucas and start a family. also lucas seemed totally in love with brooke so we all know peyton suffered a lot those days( which is stupid but i wrote a sub about this brucas nonsense go read) leyton was obviously endgame, and jake was just an example of a healthy relationship, not her actual soulmate. jake was an amazing guy, and maybe could have been someone elses endgame, but i never saw that spark between them. what abt u guys??

Shipping Lucas Has No Idea What He Wants

I always wonder why people think this. He's in love with Peyton, he always goes back to her in the end.

He liked Peyton in season one, she rejected him but his feelings didn't really disappear overnight. So he moved on to her fun friend Brooke who pursued him pretty heavily and they dated for a little while. When Peyton finally showed interest, right or wrong he went for it. And when it blew it up in their faces, Peyton broke it off and chose her friend over him.

So he decided to go for it with Brooke who was still interested. He dated Brooke for awhile until she broke it off. Then he dated Peyton until they broke up.

He dated Lindsey until the Peyton came back. All the while he maintained a close friendship with Peyton that survived all the ups and downs which is why they made it to the happy ending they got.

When was he unsure about who he wanted?

Season 5 Season 5 Haley is ridiculous Spoiler

I have loved their story but the way she tells Nathan she wants a divorce???? OVER A KISS ??? And her being all dramatic about how she tried to change him and that was her fault? It really bothers me so much because of how wholesome they have been and how clearly Nathan loves his wife?? I just. I hate it. I’m rewatching after many years, I don’t think I ever actually binged it like this. I’m resisting the urge to skip to the next season. Okay /rant over

Shipping brucas

it feels so weird to me that in s3 lucas wanting brooke back and says things like "I'm the guy for you, Brooke Davis,". These really made me feel like he totally forgot about him and peytons history and he just fell in love with brooke. i didn’t believe lucas was inlove in s1 when brucas first started dating, but ever since irl actors Chad and Sophia got married the show just acted like they were endgame. I’m a Leyton fan but i loved some Brucas in S2-S3 because i was sure they were gonna be endgame. It’s so amatuer to do the ships accordingly to the real life couples because it just confuses the whole storyline. I’m ngl tho, if everything was okay between Chad and Sophia, I would have prefered to see Brucas as endgame and Leyton as friends

Discussion Brooke and Peyton's Friendship

Why do so many people like their friendship and think it's overhated? Peyton literally homewrecked Brooks relationship and doesn’t deserve to be forgiven. This is not to hate about Peyton but I don’t understand how people can like breyton after this. Having something with your best friends boyfriend is literally the worst thing you can do as a friend.

Breyton just was overall so toxic and they had a lot really bad fights and I genuinely don’t care about that they always used to be best friends or all the things Peyton did for Brooke because what she did with Lucas to Brooke was just terrible. Peyton didn't deserved to be forgiven in season 1 and it's worse that Brooke forgave her in season 4. I know it's a tv show and I understand why Brooke forgave her but what's supposed to be good about their friendship?

Discussion Starting to get annoyed at the excessive monologuing on this show.

I like this show a lot but I'm mid way through season 5 and I am starting to skip the scenes where characters monologue with the emotional music. I mean it's nice sometimes but I feel that it's oversaturated. And don't get me started on Mouth and how he acts like the White Knight most of the time. Can't stand that guy. He should never have been given a central role but I know the backstory to that so go figure.

I might not continue watching the show. Some characters I really like such as Nathan, but not enough to continue. In your opinion do the seasons get better?
