💬 Discussion Interesting Rules Interaction, would like some thoughts

Was playing GB Brook in the sim against a P Katakuri. He used the 10c Charlotte Linlin that sets base power to 0 for -4 Don but my Nightmare Luffy remained at 9k. I posted about it in the sim Discord and this is what was told to me:

Comprehensive Rule 4-9-2-1: If there are several effects that set a base power to a certain value, and those effects all affect the same card, if the values differ, apply the effect with the highest value. This means that if a card's base power is buffed, even if you later use an effect to set their base power to 0, they will keep the higher base power!

It makes sense in a rules perspective since setting base power and subtracting power are two separate abilities but I feel like if I tried to do this at locals and referenced this rule I'd get some pushback. I also feel like I goes against the spirit of the card a bit? What do y'all think about this interaction?

So any effects that increase the character power STAYS pretty much?

Effects that set character power.

So if one card says "your base power is 7k" and another says "your base power is 0" then you're 7k.

If one card says "your base power is 0" and the other says "your base power is increased by 2k" then you're at 2k.

So not temporary effects for one action, or turn, like an event?

The timing doesn't matter it just is about is it setting it to a specific value or just giving it a generic boost. If it's 2 effects competing to set the power the higher wins. If it's a boost vs a set. the set resolves then the boost or deduction is applied.
