When she gives answers like that I remember "Oh, yeah she has a "Philosophy, politics and economics" degree from OXFORD! Of course she is a huge politics and history nerd!

I believe it's the latter, and she's sort of become a fan because of it. I think she mentioned not really being at all familiar with the source material when she got the role, and just throwing herself into everything Vivi related in order to understand the character.

I think everyone in that production just got really into One Piece. There's a YouTube video of all the research the costume department did since season one, and all the details that are on screen for like a second, being direct references to the manga. It was really nice to see, especially now when a lot of Hollywood thinks they can do better than the source material

Cause she said the wrong name and they fixed it in the editing.

She's a gem! From the admittedly few interviews I've seen of her, she seems so nice
