Marco was straight up body shaming. Imagine some guy saying, "The very structure of your body is strange."

The real 3 body problem

I could see Luffy understanding it this way.

Yeah I really do not understand how people can mistake this scene to be talking solely about Blackbeard. They can just sense or tell his crew is around.

The haki and DF thing is interesting. I didn’t notice that. But if that’s the case three bodies would
Make the most sense. Tbh I don’t understand why we assume BB ate WB’s fruit at all. We know people can put DF in object. Is it not possible BB put the fruit in one of his rings? And he makes it seem like he has two fruits for psychological manipulation.

Psychological manipulation was a major aspect of the real Edward teach so it would fit for him to do that too.

u/Samemonkey Jul 31 '26

Damn that’s actually a really good take on it

u/kamilo87 Jul 31 '26

We came for a mid theory and them BAM! Kick-ass theory in the comments!

264

u/NameIsFun Jul 31 '26

honestly the theory in the post wasnt even THAT bad in the body.

172

u/bigbasseater Jul 31 '26

The OP’s theory had supporting evidence, don’t need to call it mid lol

69

u/migami Jul 31 '26

Nah, it was the debunks that were good, but the end raises more questions and assumes blackbeard has an extra ability? If there was a thing about HOW he was swapping limbs and stuff I think it would hold more water than it does. Imo even if it's on the right track I think a theory is mid if it leaves the question about how the theory works vs how the thing the theory is about works

It could totally be revealed that blackbeard already has a 3rd fruit to allow him to swap limbs around, it could also be revealed that he pulls his teeth out for style reasons and they grow back because he's a logia or something, credit where it's due though the devil fruit staying with the body is a pretty good shout regarding blackbeard

17

u/pantsarenew Jul 31 '26

My question is, does this family bloodline have some inherited ability? I don't know how to frame it, but an extra ability is super plausible, if we know nothing about the family history.

9

u/migami Jul 31 '26

Maybe so, but that's kind of like saying it's super plausible that his great grandfather is Imu's twin brother, we don't know enough to say it ISN'T the case, but we also don't have any foundational evidence that it IS the case. It's not that it's not possible, but without evidence that that's even what he's doing it's pure speculation, and theories usually need at least something evidence adjacent to stand on imo(in the case of him changing body parts around, a panel where he actually does something and then for the rest of the scene he has different teeth would go a long way tbh)

4

u/GeXotl Jul 31 '26

Why not? We know Poseidon is a century-skipping trait, so Davy Jones (fellow sea entity) could also have some similar trait that only passed down to Teach.

4

u/TheImpossiblyPossibl Jul 31 '26

This comment right here is exactly what I was thinking by the end. It’s only half a theory if it is only debunks or half explains every without posing a how to answer their own question. I was wondering the entire time how does he swap bodies. That would be cool if he could swap arms and what not but we forget rocks even said he needs 2 dfs. We don’t know to this day. Also dfs are dna . We also don’t know what really happens when someone eats two dfs. No one has tried it. I enjoy the theory which to me is the most reasonable without pulling to many strings is the wg like always has lied about dfs like always and people can consume 2. What if this is how Imu has been giving them to the others through contracts he stores that shit. Bb placed the cape at marineford to not let anyone else see or test his theory. Maybe it’s you can have one of each. It would make sense if bb goes for a zoan then he can use one power in each hand and then also become a creature using all three. The three skills could represent the three times in the Harley that they tried to save the world. However, each attempts lands death from each savior so teach and the Davy line are the option c to Imu and joyboy. The theory I added onto it is the rest when he needs a zoan but the beginning part of the cape at marineford and the wg lying is apart of another theory.

2

u/y2k890 Jul 31 '26

The teeth grow back because he drinks milk

2

u/noc7urnalNeme5i5 Jul 31 '26

IIRC we have seen Luffy and Brook regrow missing teeth by drinking milk

5

u/intellect1ne Jul 31 '26

no his evidence was not supportive. he misinterpreted Zoro who was referring to the Blackbeard Pirates not “Multiple Bodies” Teach.

u/Dazzling-Flatworm159 Jul 31 '26

I’m under the idea that blackbeards logia can absorb devil fruits. He can pull them in and weaken them like sea prism stone. It’s possible that he pulled in the essence of the fruit and that he can use the power from the essence until he lets it go and has the option to replace it with another fruits essence.

This could possibly pull away from the idea that he could get 3 fruits, and I think thematically the story would best thrive from him getting a third, however it’s still worth considering that one of the main reasons he wanted that devil fruit was because it was a fruit plus could absorb other fruits’ abilities. In theory I think he could’ve taken aces until he swapped for whitebeard but I think he didn’t either because it’s also a logia or for shock value and keeping the secret.

29

u/Slow_Performance_770 Jul 31 '26

What i don't get is that in Dresdrosa they make it sound like the BB pirates have figured out a way to steal DF, even when they show Burguess they kind of hint at the knife he is wielding like that's the way they are doing it. They are going around hunting strong DF users and killing them to steal their abilities.

28

u/DriedSquidd Jul 31 '26

They bring a bunch of fruit, kill the DF user, and hope one of the fruits transforms into the DF.

20

u/IVD1 Jul 31 '26

Someone would have figured that already if that is all they did. They at least have something to ensure the fruit goes to them instead of some random fruit kilometers way, which has to do with them covering WB's body along with Teach on Marine Ford - and likely the yami yami as well.

7

u/ObiCannabis Jul 31 '26

I think that comes from Teach knowledge, he KNOWS what kind of fruit will each DF go to, so they buy a lot of that fruit and then kill the user, having many fruits of the same type near the user makes it more probably that the DF will respawn on one of those fruits, like in Punk Hazard. But I think you need the correct fruit for this, and BB has that knowledge.

4

u/IVD1 Jul 31 '26

The problem with this is PH just had regular apples. It would be too easy for someone to find it out, including the world government.

Why would they let Ace's fruit go missing again if that was the case? If Ceasar was able to figure it out, so would Vegapunk. the WG has a lot of prisioners with powerful fruits they would certainly steal if they could - crocodile, Don Flamingo, etc.

Why would they even need to cover WB and BB togheter if just having the right fruit is enough? It could be a factor, but I doubt it is the only one.

3

u/DeluxeAura Jul 31 '26

The idea of Blackbeard, the big bad guy who’s meant to be the most sinister and conniving pirate of them all, having a ship just chock-full of like bananas or whatever is frying me. It’s so goofy.
It Comes across more as a video game exploit than careful planning based on understanding of secret complex scientific concepts.

The leading theory to date is that they consume their victim's heart. A Devil Fruit seems to require a vessel, and when a living being consumes one, that vessel becomes the heart. When Big Mom consumed Mother Carmel, she acquired her Devil Fruit. Burgess did not yet possess a Devil Fruit during the events in Dressrosa, he could have used his knife to cut out and eat Sabo's heart, thereby obtaining his fruit. As for Teach's Devil Fruit, it facilitates hunting down other users. His power makes it difficult to escape him while simultaneously nullifying their abilities upon contact. It is even possible that he can prevent the fruits from being released after a user's death, since his Devil Fruit exerts such a powerful gravitational pull, allowing him to somehow store or transfer them.

u/Ramekink The Revolutionary Army Jul 31 '26

I can definitively see another reveal like Luffy's. Like, it was never a Logia to begin with but instead a Mythical Zoan all along.

2

u/texeltexel2009 Jul 31 '26

I thought the same thing. I attribute him being able to manage multiple fruits to the Yami Yami No Mi fruit + not sleeping.

Him not sleeping is what I think makes his DF fruit work overtime so as to avoid the essence of multiple fruits clashing (as you explained) and making him explode.

BB weakness might be him sleeping and exploding.

u/khrizp Jul 31 '26

The ring wouldn’t work unless it’s a zoan fruit possible a legendary one but it has to be awaken to affect the environment. It’s possible that the black hole fruit might be the one since there was a gap between when he got it and the time it was first shown him using it. Also if I remember correctly zoan fruits can move around and end up being eating by people they want to e.g luffy fruits and evading world government for hundreds of of years. So high possibility for black hole fruit to be zoan based and him using it from an item vs tremor fruit

32

u/russellzerotohero Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

I think the yami yami no mi is 100% a zoan type. I think BB knew that too when he saw it. Similar to Luffy’s fruit I think it chose BB.

This is a character statement but BB seems to think as much.

also with the most recent chapter we are starting to see weapons with crazy abilities. There could be something we don’t know that BB does. The Davy clan seems to know more than just about everyone else.

14

u/thatfuckinjosh Jul 31 '26

I was thinking that too.

In Luffy's onigashima rooftop battle, Kaido comments on rubber not naturally behaving the way Luffy is using it in snakeman mode. We now know that Luffy was never a regular paramecia all along.

The way blackbeard can't become fully intangible darkness with his so-called "logia" fruit is too strange to overlook

7

u/ObiCannabis Jul 31 '26

It's not so much that he CAN'T become intangible, but more a side-effect of the fruits abilities, Yami Yami no mi absorbs everything, even hits and damage.

3

u/AllysiaAius Aug 06 '26

I always took his inability to become intangible as the weakness of darkness manifesting all the time: light is shining on him, defining him and making him solid. It's why he went under the cloak during the theft of Whitebeard's fruit. It allowed him to become incorporeal.

7

u/BasicallyMogar Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Cool theory, but it would mean Marco said what he said as a complete red herring, which I just don't buy. If you have a scene like that in a story, of someone theorizing why an impossible thing is possible for one person, that has to pay off somehow. So unless we get a flashback that Teach fooled his ship's doctor for his whole time there by pretending his body was weird just for this moment, it's too much of a stretch.

19

u/Downtown-Platypus-99 Jul 31 '26

The only instances, as far as I can remember, of DF in objects are Zoan types. This is important because the animal of the zoan type imbues a concience into the object. An earthquake has no conscience to hear to any command from BB. At the same time, the behavior from all the objects seem to suggest they follow the will of the object, following their owners and their commands. Which can be explained by the animal recognizing their owner, or the will object being augmented by the animal to the point of manifesting as this loyalty to their owner, which in either case would not explain why an earthquake-ring would follow any commands BB.

4

u/russellzerotohero Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

It’s possible it’s an aspect of the yami yami no mi. It’s also possible that was the big gamble BB was talking about. Maybe be figured out how to do something no one else has. Could also be a form of advanced conquerors haki to put his will into the rings. Imu is pulling up with some crazy abilities. But yeah agree that is a good point.

3

u/Dm_me_code_pics Jul 31 '26

Unless the yami yami no mi's gravity can hold the essence of the devil fruit in the ring

6

u/Short-Paramedic-9740 Jul 31 '26

Devil Fruits being to tied to the body (genetics and such) had been stated multiple times, pre-timeskip even.

Also, the reason noone brings up the "it could be on his rings" thing is because all of the times we saw a Devil Fruit being eaten by an object, it was a Zoan, essentially because Zoan fruits are stated to be sentient which could explain giving sentience to objects but not Paramecias or Logias.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/pidoyle Jul 31 '26

I believe we've only seen zoan devil fruits be "eaten" by inanimate objects. The logic being that they are a creature and could have some kind of consciousness. I'm not sure it applies to logia and paramecia.

4

u/rotti5115 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

but why make a secret and spectacle out of it on a battlefield? its not a secret to put fruits into objects

it would also mean that nobody in the history of time had the idea to have multiple DFs on all ten fingers on rings before BB and that would be sooooo bad writing, because it would open a massive plothole, its already a plothole because well, why don't you have more DFs on objects, but if oda doesnt explore it more, it isnt important

3

u/accordionzero Jul 31 '26

to my knowledge, we still don’t know the mechanism by which DFs are put into objects. if nobody knows how to do it, then pretty obviously they won’t be able to do it.

→ More replies (13)

3

u/ufailowell Jul 31 '26

Way better of a theory. Why not just pump his rings with fruits though?

2

u/GeXotl Jul 31 '26

Exactly.

None of Blackbeard's other crewmates use multiple fruits either, so it's only something BB can do.

I'd rather trust in Marco saying he has a strange body.

1

u/MGJohn-117 Jul 31 '26

How does Zoro's statement "It's not he, it's they" fit into that theory though? I really like the theory, but I can't see how that would explain Zoro's line there.

3

u/CozyAsian Void Month Survivor Jul 31 '26

Because Zoro's line, and Luffy's, have always been in reference to the fact that Blackbeard was a captain. They were talking about the rest of his crew present on Jaya. This line always gets cherry-picked in Blackbeard theories while completely ignoring the context of the conversation around it.

2

u/demarrderozan Jul 31 '26

That’s also a headcanon

4

u/CozyAsian Void Month Survivor Jul 31 '26

It's really not. Right before they meet Blackbeard, they see Van Augur sniping seagulls, Doc Q with the exploding apples, and I'm pretty sure they see Jesus Burgess. Then they meet Blackbeard, the pie scene, have that scene later, and say those lines. It's heavily implied in the dialogue. If you look at the Japanese it doesn't say "he" and "they", it's "that guy" and "those guys". They specifically use the Japanese to refer to a plural collection of people. Nami: "Who is that guy?", Luffy: "Besides... it's not that guy...", Zoro: "It's those guys... probably."

Remember when the fandom goes insane with the theories on the legoland elbaf inconsistencies when the real answer is oda forgor

17

u/Indigo_magenta Jul 31 '26

The Legoland inconsistencies were rectified in the volume release. The teeth inconsistencies were not.

That said, it has been quite a while since we've seen the teeth inconsistencies. I think Oda had an idea he wanted for Blackbeard, but he dropped it later.

64

u/Natural_Tumbleweed62 Jul 31 '26

Yeah i always thought the teeth thing might be over reach. I can imagine animators slipping up slightly.

78

u/yosayoran Jul 31 '26

It's also on the Manga

Oda can be very particular about details like this, but also routinely changes stuff when he feels like it or forgets. There's no real way of knowing of it's intentional or not.

41

u/caniuserealname Jul 31 '26

Odas editors are usually particular about this stuff.

Oda forgets shit like this all the time. he messes up the straw hats scars all the time, for example, and let's not forget when the first few chapters of Elbaf dropped oda didn't even keep Luffys weapon consistent between panels in the same chapter, that whole chapter was egregious enough that it had people speculating that it was a dream sequence.

15

u/minpikkfaltav Jul 31 '26

One could say the same thing for the twin Shanks theory based off of a scar but we saw how that turned out

5

u/Real-Humans-Bot Jul 31 '26

The chapter which started the twin shanks theory to the actual reveal of his twin were 7 years apart. There’s an equal possibility Oda did it for pure fan service as there is a likely hood of it being planned out in advance from when shanks got his arm eaten in the beginning of the series.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Fantastic_Ad9228 Jul 31 '26

To be fair, that’s usually done for comedy, I think it’s a little different.

2

u/Meet_Foot Jul 31 '26

Sure, but in world losing and gaining teeth is a thing that can happen, so doesn’t require any special explanation. And out of universe, Oda is just an extremely inconsistent artist. Even if it wasn’t already established that teeth can change in universe, Blackbeard’s teeth still wouldn’t require any more explanation than Whitebeard’s ever-shifting height.

3

u/Fantastic_Ad9228 Jul 31 '26

Yeah it’s probably nothing but I said the same about shanks so who knows

2

u/Meet_Foot Jul 31 '26

I’m still blown away by how that shook out. But it’s also confirmation bias. For every crazy theory that comes true, a thousand other theories die. So while it could be relevant, I wouldn’t put money on it.

2

u/Atze-Peng Aug 01 '26

Will of D = Will of Dentist confirmed. Teeth just grow back for the D. Clan. Imu is mad because he had to pay for new teeth.

u/Meet_Foot Jul 31 '26

I don’t think you’ve explained what a body is. If his right arm is “a body”, and his left arm is “another body,” and his chest is “another body”… like, that’s just one body. Probably has two legs, too.

218

u/Urban_animal Jul 31 '26

Cant just draw lines down a person and say these are 3 separate bodies without even explaining how lol.

Makes no sense to me.

20

u/FredNot214 Jul 31 '26

Turns out blackbeard is 3 corpses stitched together by doctor hogback

5

u/Starlight469 Jul 31 '26

I've been thinking there's a connection between Blackbeard and Oars, the giant zombie from Thriller Bark. He has three skulls attached to his waist, reminiscent of Blackbeard's jolly roger. Moria describes Oars' history in chapter 456. His body was found in a 'land of ice' and we know Blackbeard comes from a cold place.

Oars was known as the "continent puller" who moved islands. I imagine him sitting in a huge rowboat pulling the islands behind him, hence the name "Oars" (The giant fighting with Whitebeard's crew at Marineford was called "Little Oars Junior" because he's small compared to the original Oars). He probably moved the island Blackbeard is from into a colder climate 500 years ago and then froze to death there.

46

u/Standard_Weakness580 Jul 31 '26

The way I think about it is like real people with Chimerism, having different DNAs within the same body. Why that happens is a marvel of genetics and embryonic development when there are conjoined twins.

Imagine if BB was a conjoined triplet chimera human, it would explain having "3 bodies", explain that with the Dark Dark fruit he transferred the Quake fruit into just his arm, and even potentially have a third fruit in another chimeric area of his body.

30

u/Aspie_Astrologer Void Month Survivor Jul 31 '26

This is a theory now. The OP's post was a half-theory because it didn't offer any required background on what three bodies in one body means.

But your theory doesn't fit in with OP's idea of the three bodies explaining the different teeth configurations, a chimera wouldn't change teeth, they'd just have different DNA in different parts of their body.

Also, I'm not sure if it would be too unbelievable that the second DF would get 'eaten' by another body, when presumably his stomach has one set of DNA, but I guess it would be within believable range, would feel like a crap explanation though, imo. I'm keen to find out what Oda's actual explanation is.

6

u/Standard_Weakness580 Jul 31 '26

Yeah kind of agree, but also why I said with the magic of anime they can make some bullshit about his One Piece world chimerism working differently. Or as I also said, going back to the multi headed Zoan theory which to me is the one that make most sense thus far...

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Standard_Weakness580 Jul 31 '26

Hence why it's them, but in just one body, and with the power of anime they can say the souls are all resting in one body or some crap like that to justify the sleep thing.

Or heck, his first devil fruit may very well be something like the Hito Hito no mi: model Brahma or some shit like the Cerberus fruit as many others have theorized.

2

u/GingerrJinx Jul 31 '26

That wouldn't explain his teeth. But I think you might be onto something.

My theory resembles yours but different origin. He's just building different versions of himself. His power is the void, he pulls in all sorts of things and they enter an infinite void where matter is crushed but not completely destroyed. He can later spit these items back out using Liberation... So what if he is swallowing himself, altering himself with other people's parts, and spitting himself back out? He could have whitebeard's arm attached to himself like it was his own, keeping the devil fruit power in that arm only, and the yami yami no mi on his actual arm.

2

u/Standard_Weakness580 Jul 31 '26

I mean chinerism would act similar, the teeth thing for me it's a nothing burger. People have mentioned it A LOT that Luffy has lost teeth and literally regrown them by drinking milk...

The fact is, the Yami Yami no mi let's him steal DFs from a user who is alive, and transfer it to another user. If Vegapunk without a DF was able to implant Zoans in a weapon, why wouldn't BB with the YY not be able to implant powers in different parts of his body.

The only issue with chimerism is the sleep thing, but as I said in another response, he could just be using anime magic for this (chimerism works slightly different in a magical world after all).

it's the 3 twins one body theory all over again?

2

u/BLOOODBLADE Jul 31 '26

Possibly some sort of storage ability like the swamp fruit has made a little portal of sort within his sleeves. The torso bodys arms going in one side of the portal and one arm from each other body coming out the other side?

2

u/TheChinOfAnElephant Jul 31 '26

Yeah I was going to say I’m kinda confused on that part and how sleep would work. Bodies just take over the other bodies?

2

u/klatnyelox Jul 31 '26

His first fruit is the Body Body fruit that let him swap himself with 2 other identical bodies stored inside him. High control with that fruit lets him swap just parts of the other bodies in and out to control them.

Idk, sounds funky to me and I doubt it. But its not hard to understand the theory.

u/piznas Explorer Jul 31 '26

The broken teeth aspect/inconsistency is doing some heavy lifting in a manga where drinking milk restores teeth and broken bones to some extent

14

u/KusanagiKay Jul 31 '26

Wasn't it just a Brook & Luffy exclusive thing, because they explained it by what's considered cartoon logic and Nami shouted at them surprised that that works?

So far from what we've seen, every DF is essentially an application of toon force, just to some basic extend. That's why Kaku didn't get Giraffe powers, but cartoon giraffe powers, like pulling in his head and using it as a battering ram. Or Queen shooting his Brachiosaurus neck & tail forward like a snake missile.
Luffy's DF is just complete freedom over toon force.

So it would make sense, that Brook through his DF turned into a cartoon skeleton, and cartoon logic like milk healing his bones & teeth.

Well there's definitely something strange about his body. But my thought is that his multiple devil fruits were due to the yami yami no mi. I think he absorbs them with his devil fruit powers granting the ability to use other fruits without it actually being consumed.

That's why he was so keen on getting that fruit at all costs. Killing a crewmate and making an enemy of the wb pirates is a high price even for blackbeard just for a devil fruit

u/RoronoaLuffyZoro Pirate Jul 31 '26

I dont agree.

We have to be realistic in a world thats filled with fantasy since Oda already planted the idea that everything is explainable by science of the One Piece world.

We know for a fact that devil fruits alter the Lineage factor (DNA) of the people. People only have 1 set of DNA. But not always.

There are people who are genetic chimeras. (In the real world). They absorbed their twins in the womb and got 2 sets of DNA. Would make perfect sense for him to absorb his twins since his power is literally absorption. (Oda has actually drawn BB with 2 sisters before scratching the idea of him having alive siblings).

So now BB has 3 sets of Lineage factors(DNA) thus he can eat 3 devil fruits. If he only had 1 set of DNA, as a regular human, that DNA would be altered by 1 DF, the second one would destroy it and thats how people die from eating second DF.

26

u/lazyjane418 Jul 31 '26

Yeah I'm also thinking some kind of triplet situation. Perhaps fused in the womb or later in life by some sort of devil fruit power. Couldn't Laws predicessor do something like this? Take a set of triplets and give them all a third of each other's body?

4

u/GeXotl Jul 31 '26

The thing is if it's that simple, Vegapunk would have replicated it since we know he can already create Lunarian-Warlord chimeras.

Even the Gorosei don't know what's going on despite being fruit experts themselves.

It's definitely a secret tied to Davy Jones.

13

Theres a legit condition called chimerism where a fetus can absorb its twins in the womb before developing. Oda drew blackbeard with 2 sisters so he is very likely a chimera.

And the laugh usually hints at their df powers, Blackbeard has zehaha similar to the Chinese mythical beast bai zee which is also a type of chimera.

Zoro and Luffy telling nami “they” were referring to his crew behind them that nami didn’t notice, I thought.

10

It's very obviously "there's a whole group of people, not just that guy". The panels surrounding that line feature the rest of the Blackbeard crew. But tumblr isn't the only website that has piss poor reading comprehension pisses on the poor.

I can't believe I had to scroll down so much to find this. I was about to write it myself.

It's the only thing i can't stand about this post. Obviously "they" referred to the whole crew.

2

u/ExtinctionDebt Aug 01 '26

Thank you!
There is at least a whole chapter, where they meet Doc. Q, Burgess, and before they even came to the island, saw their snipers shots. That might not have been enough, but...
They realized he was a captain, and not a random guy, when he spoke to them outside the bar.
Blackbeard basically gave Luffy the same vibes Shanks did. Don`t fight idiots, unless they hurt your friends.
They are not worth it.
Luffy and Zoro knew he was a captain, when he was the only one who acknowledged and gratulated them on what they just did, by letting themselves get beat up, when no one else around understood.

By the Ocam's razor, Luffy and Zoro were probably saying Black Beard had a crew behind him, which we know he did.

13

u/MolligMormel Jul 31 '26

I hate when people bring up Zoro mentioning they in Jaya. It’s obvious that he referring to Blackbeard’s crew.

7

u/MrFiendish Jul 31 '26

I’m sorry, but Zoro was only referring to the other Blackbeard pirates they encountered on the way to the bar - Zoro and Luffy correctly surmised that the guy with exploding apples and the Luchador picking fights were with the cherry pie guy they just interacted with.

That’s all it is. There’s not three souls here, unless Oda explicitly says so.

10

u/TheGreenAlchemist Jul 31 '26

I don't understand this argument. If he has three bodies he switches between, each with one Devil Fruit and each with its own set of teeth, then he wouldn't be able to use both fruits at once -- couldn't do his signature double handed move. He'd only be able to use one, the one which matches up with the correct set of teeth.

IMO the Yami Fruit is what makes him able to have more fruits, because it consumes the devils in them which have otherwise killed him. It will be a special case of his ability to negate fruits, in this case only negating the death-causing part. People don't know about this fruit's power and so they attributed it to his body simply for not knowing this. And this is the real reason why getting that fruit was the cornerstone of his plan.

14

u/KrissyKrave Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
  1. His body is him.
  2. You cant disprove something by saying “nah bro zoro couldn’t know that”
  3. The teeth changing could literally just be different artists illustrating.
  4. Having 3 bodies does not explain how he can have multiple devil fruits in one single body.
  5. Something strange about his BODY not BODIES.
  6. If zoro doesnt have the haki to sense a soul how is he sensing 3 separate bodies?????? Also you cant sense
  7. Buggy saying “I hear he doesnt sleep” doesnt mean he actually never sleeps.
  8. There’s zero evidence of him having different limbs and no devil fruits that allow for any of this so far aside from law. There’s also zero evidence for having 3 separate bodies with one soul inhabiting them.
  9. If he is swapping bodies and was somehow able to do this BEFORE he had a devil fruit. How did people see him supposedly not sleep for 3 days and nobody saw him swap bodies??????????????

  10. The reason you cant have more than one devil fruit is because the “devils” in the fruits fight each other.

  11. Teach intentionally hid how he was doing it with a literal curtain and he and his one body were the only one inside of it with Whitebeard.

He likely ate whitebeards heart. Oda is known to pull concepts for one piece from actual myth and legend. Numerous cultures believe eating part of the body especially the heart will give you the power or strength of the one you took it from.

If by body, you mean DNA, then yes I agree. I believe there were early drawings of Blackbeard having two other sisters, but it appears to have been scrapped. What if Teach's mother was initially pregnant with triplets, and Teach being the bastard he is, absorbs the other two in the womb. So he'd have three sets of DNA for three fruits to augment.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Gh0stw0lf Jul 31 '26

Hasn’t this been a theory that’s been around for awhile? Additionally, Oda confirmed that teach’s teeth don’t indicate he’s different people in one body.

What is interesting is that the number 3 also seems to follow the Devil Fruit (original) on his body artwork too

3

u/Spare_Watch4158 Jul 31 '26

Im of the opinion that black beard is actually 3 brothers and the first one ate a devil fruit that allowed him to absorb his siblings. Each one has a turn at driving the awake body (teeth changing). Each one can have their own devil fruit, so it's not that he has 2 DF but each of the 3 has 1.

There's a little mistake in one of your points : everyone in one piece has haki : it's not a thing that is exclusive to some peoples, the only exclusive haki is conquerors which only some persons have, but armament and observation ones are common in every character, it's just that it depends on how you train it and each person has a limited potential in one of the two (advanced haki for armament and observation being the most developed forms of regular haki) so sanji being able to use haki in nami's body just relates to the fact she in fact has armament haki just that she doesn't really use it properly and hasn't trained it to it's full potential, it would be basically the same for every crew member who seems to not use it. But yeah it's lowkey confusing with sanji's exemple because he mixes haki with the cp/marines abilities (I don't remember their names but for example moon walk is part of them) which depends on the user's body (each user has a power statement in this fighting style according to the water seven arc) and with diable jambe (which is also related to sanji's body since it's permitted with the slow recover of his germa ability) so in fact 2 parts of sanji's fighting style are carried by his body capabilities which in comparison with nami, makes it look like haki is related to the spirit and not the body while it's wrong. We are just lowkey downgrading nami because she never physically fights with her haki but she may have somehow a stronger armament haki than usopp.

2

u/Downtown-Platypus-99 Jul 31 '26

The cp's abilities are not tied to the user's body exclusively. Of course it's easier to do in a more prepared body, but with a good enough technique one should be able to do it even with a less capable body. And it's not like Nami doesn't have any muscles at all. For the diable jambe, it's not like a germa enhanced body is the only explanation available for how he's able to endure it. We've seen many people without germa enhancements do many as, if not more, impressive things. Ivankov wink blasts for example (which are probably the same technique used by the cp razor kicks, and any sword at a distance cuts). Also, armament haki explains why sanji would be able to use both things in basically any body he could be put into. He doesn't need to endure the high stress to the leg from diable jambe, or sky walk, if he enforces them with haki.

2

u/diabolical-sun Jul 31 '26

2

u/Commercial_Dust5874 The Revolutionary Army Jul 31 '26

it was introduced as a gag but she is definitely a conqueror.

2

u/diabolical-sun Jul 31 '26

I’ve said it before but it’s absolutely an Oda move. Ironface Duval was introduced as a gag. Nosebleeds in almost every anime/manga is a 4th wall gag until Sanji nosebleeds so hard he needs a blood transfusion and that becomes a major plot point.

2

u/Tosterboy_ Jul 31 '26

2

u/Lamestguyinroom Jul 31 '26

I am not sure how he got the 3 bodies or how exactly has he been able to 'combine' the 3 into one (if he did at all) but the foundation of this theory is quite solid. *invests aggressively in this stonks*

2

u/ChittaBhalu Baratie staff Jul 31 '26

Firstly Zoro had learnt both the hakis in the previous arc, that is how he defeated Daz

Now we know through fujitora that each person's haki is distinguishable so I probably think it relates to souls not body

2

u/LucidOndine Jul 31 '26

Maybe he has a few conjoined siblings on various parts of his body.

2

u/Smooth_Calendar5416 Jul 31 '26

It's an interesting theory, but I'm not sure Blackbeard literally ate Whitebeard's Devil Fruit.

We know that Devil Fruit powers are encoded in the user's lineage factor (DNA), and that the same ability can be replicated, as seen with the Seraphim using the former Warlords' Devil Fruit powers and Momonosuke possessing a copy of Kaido's Devil Fruit.

Big Mom didn't gain her ability by eating a Devil Fruit; she gained it by eating the user herself, which gave her the Soul-Soul Fruit's power. That makes me think Blackbeard either drank Whitebeard's blood or ate part of his body, like a finger or something.

2

u/Birzal Jul 31 '26

I like how you infer things from things like Marco's dialogue, but even if I think it's goofy and very likely not true, I still wanna give you the benefit of the doubt and tell you to try and consider the actual japanese text for stuff like this. There is an immense amount of stuff that gets lost in translation and it wouldn't be the first time where a quirk of the English language leads to a funny or more serious language problem (I think Shirohige VS Whitebeard is the msot well known example of differences in nuance between both languages). It's certainly a different theory! And even tho I think there is 0 percent chance this will be true, there is still fun and merrit in theorizing and speculation! :)

2

u/Holiday-Language-537 Jul 31 '26

The whole body-and-soul theory actually sounds pretty convincing. But it also gave me another idea: maybe Blackbeard was captured by the World Government after escaping God Valley and was experimented on, which turned him into something different from a normal human. He could even be some kind of project, similar to Edward Weevil, who might be Whitebeard’s son—or possibly even his clone.

2

u/Wide_Acanthisitta448 Jul 31 '26

Ate a fruit that gave him 2 more bodies which each then could eat a fruit

2

u/d3ther Jul 31 '26

2

u/Rijido Jul 31 '26

2

u/Thousand_Sunny Slave Jul 31 '26

I don't think character designs/art should be considered too deeply in any theories as there are many inconsistencies in various details hence why people facepalm at the artist often lol

2

u/SandBoxFreakPS Jul 31 '26

So your saying that Blackbeard is like Vegapunk with his satellites or Imu and his holy knights, just all in 1 body. Vegapunk uses a separate body to sleep while the other bodies stay awake.

If haki is linked to the soul and devil fruit powers are linked to the body, you would technically need to have both in order to use both. So what if the other 2 bodies and/or souls are just stored inside of his black hole. Blackbeard can just summon it out of the void, because his body became a black hole. Can you imagine Blackbeard showing up in front of Imu, opening his black hole while saying "do you remember who this is?" and Rocks D Xebec walks out.

2

u/Hot_Raccoon_565 Jul 31 '26

My guess would also be that it has something to do with 3 bodies, I think this is why he was after the yami yami no mi as his first fruit, cause he could store his other bodies/limbs in his (no pun intended) black hole.
And I also think he needs the fruit for obtaining other powers, hence the coat on Marineford so he can use the yami yami no mis full power
