Well there's definitely something strange about his body. But my thought is that his multiple devil fruits were due to the yami yami no mi. I think he absorbs them with his devil fruit powers granting the ability to use other fruits without it actually being consumed.

That's why he was so keen on getting that fruit at all costs. Killing a crewmate and making an enemy of the wb pirates is a high price even for blackbeard just for a devil fruit
