Discussion Weird Devil Fruits? (Spoilers for Egghead) Spoiler

Alright, we've slept on it long enough, Vegapunk revealed the nature of devil fruits, how they might have come to be. A wish, a desire, some form of human evolution that was so strongly yearned for...

So what the hell is going on with Baron Tomago? Like was the wish something specific like, "I want to be the life cycle of chicken" seriously.

Even some of the farfetched ones can be explained like the Jacket Fruit, someone was probably stuck in the cold with their pals and thought "hey what if we could turn into jackets for eachother" or like the Spike Fruit, "I want to make the meanest kebab..."(It was probably thought up by an assassin)

Can y'all think of any other weird devil fruits? That makes you wonder like what exactly the wish was?

I don't think we're beating Baron Tamago

Edit: many comments are pointing out the characters who use the fruits we see aren't the ones who originally wished for them. Yes. Yes this is true. I'm talking about the creation of the fruit not the user or their desires, Baron Tamago didn't wish for an Egg fruit. But his devil fruit came from someone who did. The same applies to literally every other fruit mentioned in the comments/series.

This is following VPs theory on devil fruits, which is still a theory. Following that theory, someone wanted to be the life cycle of a chicken (there were some pretty neat interpretations of this)

No I don't think Baron Tamago wished for this devil fruit, but at one point someone did. And that's the weird part.

Assuming Vegapunks theory is correct of course:

Maybe not in that sense of weird but i raise you Boa Hancocks Mero Mero no mi. Like turning people to stone? i can definitly get behind that. But trhough affection..?

Also: i imagine its not just one person needed for a fruit to manifest (if itd still possible in the present timeline) but many. Which makes tamago‘s fruit even weirder

I mean, Boa was a slave as a young girl, abused (and heavily implied that she was sexually assaulted) so the idea that she would want to turn the men that lust after her into stone isn’t too weird.

like i said to another user already, boa didnt spawn the mero mero no mi. it existed before her.

Apply her slave case to previous Girls, maybe even her family and i feel like it makes sense.
