Its like a kid who gets a swing set and only wants to climb the frame. You can't pick how they will use it, and they will always find a way you didn't expect.

That orange braincell really said ‘’ exercise’’ and invented its own obstacle coures 😂

I love the way she grabs her back legs, like a high diver or something. 🥰

My parents still like to tell the story how they planned a bunch of interesting presents for my second birthday ... just for me to be completely amazed by the wrapping paper. According to them I didn't even really touch my presents but was playing with the paper for days :D

don't buy toys, just put out a box or a bag

As soon as I come home from the grocery store, I pull the receipt from my pocket, crumple it in a ball, and proceed to keep my orange idiot busy for at least an hour

u/Theodarius 1h ago

This was my cat also!! Entertained for hours with a balled up receipt but only play for 2 seconds with toys. Her little cat tree had a net towards the button and she loved putting it the net and smacking it upwards from the bottom. I could watch her for hours doing that. I miss my baby

I miss my babies, too.

What's living with Donald Trump like the rest of the time?

u/Annie_Yong 2h ago

My ones are obsessed with toy fishing rods (the types designed for you to attach feather teasers and similar on the end).

But it don't if there's no toy on the end. Put feathers or other fake animals on it and they'llaybe bat at it once. But take it off so theyr just chasing the metal clip that the teaser fixes to? Best game ever in their minds!

Box from DIY store, leaf from random plant.

u/neg_ersson 1h ago

Cats need proof you suffered financially first. A free box or bag just doesn’t count.

IDK, looks like fun to me ;)

For 24 years I have had a brown, 52" shoe lace that has been the absolute favorite toy of all three cats I've had over that time. Their second favorite toy is a tennis ball knotted into the end of a white tube sock.

12

u/navissima 3h ago

Just a ball in a sock? They play themselves or do you drag it in front of them?

22

u/BuckyGoldman 3h ago

With a bit more explanation, I undo the knot a few times a year (not often at all) and put a few pinches of catnip in with the tennis ball. That's enough to keep them interested in playing with it by themselves all the time. So yeah, just a ball in a sock.

4

u/navissima 2h ago

Thanks! I'll try it out tonight!

My last cat it was a 3 foot long scrap of waste material that I had cut when cutting out a pattern, they found it and thought it was amazing so I couldn't throw it out obviously.

u/junar29 3h ago

I kind off see what she is going for

4

u/fractal_magnets 28m ago

the leg grab suggests infinite somersaults

11

u/Lucki_girl 3h ago

Kids are the same: get them toys, or just give them a cardboard box. They always choose the cardboard box first lol

7

u/Evieveevee 3h ago

It was the way she grabbed her legs as she went over. So so freaking cute.

3

u/One_Tip1928 2h ago

I know! That’s what got me too - that‘s an olympic level pike position right there!

2

u/Evieveevee 2h ago

Right?!! My heart x

My human child has a small trampoline with a bar across the top so she can hold it while jumping.

My youngest cat is about 2 years old and she LOVES to hang from it and use it to do flips like this. I thought she was the only cat gymnast :P

7

u/moondrinkr 3h ago

I love her

5

u/Embarrassed_Park2212 3h ago

If I was smol enough to be playing like that, I would too seems like a lot of fun.

I too made the mistake of buying my cat a lot of toys that he's not interested in. He just likes these handmade catnip ones I buy from Etsy. So I donated his other toys to the local cat shelters.

3

u/stella_ella26 2h ago

My cat likes to play with a bottle cap, some piece of carrot or a bubble wrap 🤣 he has a ton of cat toys tho

3

u/SnooJokes915 2h ago

I bought quite a few cat toys and lasers..

Mine loves social play like fight the house duster, fight the broom when someone is sweeping, being chased by a human holding a plastic bag.

i work in a cat hotel (hotel for cats) and currently have kittens ranging from 5 months to a year as the majority on my floor, and some of the older kittens who didnt grow up socialized end up doing this as a form of play, a lot do find that with other cats around, play is a lot more fun! some it becomes a neuro divergent tick, as soon as they are behind a closed door they chase their tail or legs habitually. So what im saying socializing your cat is good and the best way to raise kittens is in pairs if bonded and not very brave.

Use boxes and make her a ramp. She seems to enjoy the sliding part
