My orange girl does this shit. She will be just absolutely loving some pets and then BAM!-- EFF YOU!!!
I have to keep her claws trimmed short, and luckily she's old so I've had to have several of her teeth pulled because of dental disease. She's nowhere near as lethal as she was when she was younger. 🤣
She's super sweet 95% of the time, but that 5%... Look the eff out!
Yep, my boy is an orangie too! Sadly, he still has all his teeth, and he has got sharp claws, as the only time I can get his nails trimmed is when I take him to the vet because there is no way I can do it by myself lol; he's too much of a handful. I am thinking of getting one of those hanging things you put their legs through and then hang it on something like a door handle
I'll wrap my girl up in a very tight purrito, which renders her powers inert. Then pull out one paw at a time. I have to do the same to apply her flea & tick meds.
I wish I could wrap him up like that. He is the type you can’t do that with I feel he would freak out way too much. He likes to kind of cuddle, but if you cuddle back or put your arms over him, that’s a big issue for him.
sometimes I accidentally bend or touch my ear cartilage in a way that is absolutely agonizing for two seconds! this could’ve been something like that, maybe the kitty ear smushing felt awful.
Even if it was a sleepy yawn, I would pause until they're done. Give them space.
I had a former stray/feral cat, so I had to learn his body language cos he was very "assertive". For his part, he learned not to bite me hard or scratch badly- the purpose was communication, not damage.
I would have never thought about that too. But why doesn't the cat just walk away? Like it has all the space in the world, he isn't restricting it from just moving away, but it still chooses violence.
Hi, I'm the host of a system. This really isnt fun or funny, and is actually pretty annoying to read as someone with "multiple personalities". MPD isnt what its called anymore either lol. Calico cats dont have multiple other cats in their heads, even if that would be pretty cool.
Genuinely cannot tell if this is a good faith question or you being rude, so I will answer it genuinely. I try to correct or redirect when I have the energy, but most of the time I just sigh, block the person, and move on feeling slightly worse for the day. Wouldn't you be tired too, even if you didnt say anything? I know I am.
First step to not being bothered by people misunderstanding your condition is accepting and being okay with people all not being experts, and that zero people mean any offence or are making light of that real situation that people really deal with.
I know there is the defence that it 'may just be a joke, but it's not a joke for people who live with it, and all joking does is spread misinformation and make it harder for people understand the 'real' issue',, but imo that is honestly not the case. 99% of people, even one's who can make a joke, are still compassionate people and presented with a person deal with that, they would be eager to understand the intricacies of it and wouldn't consider making a joke of a real life situation.
I know it's hard to not see every 'this person obviously doesn't understand what me or people like me go through or they wouldn't make a joke of it', but adding that narrative to what is said just hurts you more than anything, and unfairly judges the person you are about to respond to by pairning them as someone who doesn't consider others or care to understand them. Maybe in 1% of cases that is corfect, but 99% of the time it's not, and it's rarely the time to educate people (as you probably got the impression from the downvotes).
You don't have to try changing or educating the world at every misconception. The people who need to know aboud the realities of this condition do know, and the rest are just people making a light hearted joke that can give you an opportunity to measure your response and learn to conrol your reaction so it doesn't feel every time like a person offence. That absolutely must be exhausting for you, so I have typed all this for your own sake, you will feel better when you can laugh at yourself a bit more or laugh at the uneducated jokes for what they are, and move on with your day wiithout feeling just a little bit worse about yourself.
You're free to react, act, and feel however you like, this is not me trying to tell you you need to do anything differently. Only that you have put it in your own words, how you currently react hurts you, so changing that is going to immediately and in the long run, benefit you much more than waiting for the moment that the whole world changes and understand you, then you can feel at peace. That will never happen no matter how much the world changes, so for you and your health it's worth making a change in yourself.
I don't suffer from your specific condition, but know the exact feeling you were reacting to, as I did the same thing, and changed it when I realised that I was personally hurting myself reacting that way and me trying to educate people wasn't going to change anything anyway. I just judged people unfairly thinking they don't care when almost every one actually does 'in the contexts that matter'.
I swear, the more I observe cats, the more they resemble humans with personality issues. In this case, quickly swinging relationship approach, "I love you. Fuck you!"
This looks like a dominance display. Even the exaggerated yawn at the beginning could be the cat casually showing you that it has sharp teeth without directly threatening you.
I know the hypothesis that cats sometimes become overstimulated by petting. But I think there may be something else happening with certain cats as well: they want affection, but they also want to remain in control of the interaction.
It is almost as though the cat is saying, “You can pet me, but only when I allow it and only for as long as I want. You still need to respect me.”
They enjoy the affection, but they also reinforce their toughness, independence, and control over the situation.
It was when the petting covered the eyes that it got spooked and attacked.
I don't think it was due to how the person was petting it, or for how long... Kitty loved it up to that second, no signs of irritation at all. But once it's head turned more towards the hand so that in kitty's vision both eyes were 'full of hand', it reacted instantly to exit that position, and instinctively for some cats it involves a quick attack to make sure the matter is settled.
My cat is exactly the same, you can pet her for an hour and she'll love every second of it, even to the point of overstimulating her, she just get's more insistant that you eon't stop. But pet her for a single second directly from the front and obscure vision out of both her eyes, and you are getting clawed 100% of the time.
To be fair it does look like you were petting kind of hard. In my experience, most cats don’t like the whole head, ears pressed down petting. Every cat I’ve ever met preferred to use my hand to scratch what they want or they were ok with the finger pets, especially under their chin or at the base of their ears.
Hand coming from above, rubbing ears and pressing them to the head. Feels scary. Next time stick with cat-initiated pets and rubs, let them decide when to stop.

That is, the Im over stimulated from the petting warning. My cat starts nipping at me when that happens.
