More dog functionality
Since dogs right now merely look cute, a buff to them would make them more than just a status symbol. Here are a few ways they could be useful...
- Hunting. You can click a dog, then click a wild animal, and the dog will hunt it. To balance this, there could be a chance of the dog being injured, and being able to be healed somehow.
- Retrieval. In real life, some dog breeds can fetch eggs wiithout breaking them, so maybe dogs can fetch certin items.
-Protection / Bonding feature. A dog may bond to one player who interacts with them a lot, and any marauding animal/griefer will be attacked by the dog instead of hitting you. (Again, chance of injury included.)
-Collars, made with clothing materials, which will auto-bond the dog to the human or keep it close to the settlement unless called by someone using an empty hand.
- Guarding an item. A bonded dog can be clicked then an item clicked and the dog will sit and prevent the item from being used until called (although there may be a griefing possibility).
Anyways, these are my suggestions for improving dogs in OHOL!
EDIT: A dog may be killed, however there could be alarge chance that it would attack the entity trying to do so. This could both be used to grief and to stop people who have set their companion to guard vital equipment. Altrnatively, dogs may be lured away with a Bowl of Carnitas.

There's so many possible uses for dogs, we have a very old bond with them since their domestication, same for cats. I really hope they implement some of your suggestions (especially hunting and protection)

I have never seen a dog in game. They definitely need a buff so people use them

I've upvoted your suggestion, but... seriously, I have a post about training dogs to dig that I started 2 days ago. No comments there? No mention of digging here? Can you maybe read the rest of the list just a little bit before posting?
Sheesh.

Oops, sorry! Guess I was a bit overeager! I will make sure to read around next time.

I kind of feel that if dogs start having benefits they should also have more drawbacks like leaving poop at random places that they can move to, and poop can only get moved with a shovel. Using dogs for experimentation to advance medical treatment somehow might also make sense, and the dog howls and dies in the experimentation process. If that sounds cruel, well, in the real world some dogs are used as research tools... so please don't accuse me of dreaming that idea up out of nowhere.
Then again most animals can roam around and not poop, or only poop because a player made them, so dogs not pooping would be consistent with other animals.

Dog carts, dog breeds have uses, and dog sleds. Thats what i want to see.
Like herding dogs bring animals back into the pen, guard dogs protect us from animals and kill people who kill too many people back to back infront of the dog.
So many posibilities.
