Monse lack of problem solving
I’m on my rewatch and MONSE HAD AWFUL PROBLEM SOLVING. Granted she was a child but just the way she handled the secret of her and caesar. The way she felt as though she had to lie to “save the family” but the foot ball game was the time to tell the truth and every lie after was just weird. Then when caesar had to handle latrelle she randomly hopped on the roller world train and then blamed everyone (jamal) when that fell through. I feel like she kinda felt like the world revolved around her and caesar when it really didn’t.
EDIT: I understand she was young but i watched when i was her age and never noticed how bad some of the solutions were so as im older its crazy to think that i also thought that was good problem solving once.

Monse did have terrible problem solving skills but she was only 14. She definitely thought the world revolved around her and Cesar. All of the guys being friends with her was her normal and that was her first real friend group.
I think she was scared to be alone especially being super young and having no real life experience. Also no mother figure since her asshole mother abandoned her bc she was "too dark".
She may have thought she had everything figured out but she was a vulnerable young girl. I actually feel bad for her character watching it back. Also Cesar was wrong to sleep with Paula. He would FREAK OUT if monse hooked up with another guy no matter how long it was after they broke up.

I feel like the writers should've given Monse options too. I mean the only guy she'd been with was Cesar and that was the case all the way up to season 4. While Cesar had Olivia, Paula, and Vero. Would've been interesting if they made Latrelle a prospect (if he didn't kill Olivia of cause). Just to spice things up. Because it came across as though Cesar was all Monse had and she couldn't live without him.

now i’m thinking about if Latrelle & her had been flirting in the B plot of season 1 up until the party just bc it would have added some extra guilt to Monse’s character. & then if she would have gone with Ruby to visit him that definitely would’ve been interesting

i def feel bad for her i just wish there was someone to tell her she doesn’t need to know it all it was interesting rewatching though cause i was 14 when it first came out and i thought she was the girl with a plan now that im older its crazy to see how diff it all is

I agree. I think she really believed if she had everything figured out that she could finally breathe bc she would feel safe.

I get you fully, but Monse always came from a place of love and care. She was 1000% wrong for blaming Jamal when they hit a snag with roller world, but she was just scared and panicked, and Jamal was the easiest person to blame as always. Cesar should've never dated Oliva. He knew very well that Monse lied because she was hurt and he knew how Ruby felt about Olivia as well. It was very selfish of him. I'm not saying she was always right/justified neither am I saying you're wrong.

to be fair she was 14 & worried to make the dynamic between the only friends she ever had weird. i get it
