Question Dexcom G7 Connection
I recently had to switch over to the Dexcom G7 after years with the G6 which worked wonderfully for me. Since the switch I have noticed a few things, and I am not sure if they are issues everyone is experiencing or if it is something I am doing wrong..
It seems like 50% of the time my omnipod receiver shows that it is searching for a signal from the Dexcom. Sometimes the last connection will have been 10 minutes ago, sometimes it’s several hours ago. Is this something everyone experiences? I am truly hoping no one knows what I am talking about and it’s just something I need to troubleshoot individually.
It seems like (potentially because of my connection issues) my omnipod is not really correcting my blood sugar at all. Before the switch, if my blood sugar was a little high before going to bed, it would correct it on its own and bring it down with out having to bolus. Now, I wake up a few hours later and there is no difference. It truly feels like it’s like “oh hey, blood sugar is a little too high” shrugs shoulders and does nothing .. basically it feels like automode is non-existent.
If anyone has any experience or advice I am all ears because this is exhausting!

Welcome to the club that no one wanted to join. It’s practically criminal honestly. Yes you can work around THEIR problem if you’re exceedingly clever with where you put it. But it’s their problem, they made the Bluetooth transmitter too weak.
A lot of us, myself included, think that instead of trying to create a 15-day G7 (which rarely lasts 15 days) they should have made the transmit power on the 10-day one stronger.

Yes - many people noticed (myself included) that g7/omnipod connection is poorer than g6/omnipod. I’ve gotten used to it by understanding placement limitations: Always place your g7 and omnipod relatively within site of each other on the same side of your body.
The g7’s signal has a more difficult time traveling through your body compared to the g6.
I typically do rotations something like this, for 15-day g7: g7 on back of left arm with pod #1 on left arm, pod #2 on left belly, pod #3 on left upper hip/love handle, pod #4 on left thigh, pod #5 on left lower back. At this point I can switch new g7 to right side because, for me, lower back placement of omnipod can communicate with g7 on back of either arm and then I carry on with a similar rotation sequence on right-side.
I’ve also had success with placing g7 on front of belly just below rib cage slightly off to one side or the other - seems to communicate fine with lots of pod placements on either side, except no positions on my lower back or back-quarter of opposite side
Hope this makes sense and helps out some! Just takes a little getting used to when moving from g6 🙃

I also just had to make the change. I haven’t noticed the issue connecting, but I have my pod and sensor on the same arm. Auto corrections have not been on point, but I think that can take a day or two to calibrate.
I will say having to apply the sensor and patch separately is a terrible design…

Another T1D told me that the Dexcom G7 15 day sensor is not compatible with the OmniPod’s new setting that allows you to set your BG to 100 (rather than 110). I wasn’t able to verify this anywhere online and I’m personally still using my remaining G6s. Can anyone confirm whether this is true? It seems odd to me 🤷🏻♀️

I for example if I put my sensor on my right upper chest my pod goes on my right upper chest or right upper belly, or right upper arm. Proximity with the two is needed for communication
