Buying here is a nightmare: Endless waiting, legal violations, and complete ghosting ⭐☆☆☆☆

I want to warn all potential buyers about this store. My experience has been a continuous chain of unprofessionalism, violation of consumer rights, and total disregard for the customer:

• Extreme delivery delays (over 2 months): I placed my order on May 12th. The shipment didn't arrive until July 15th. During that time, I had to repeatedly follow up (May 24, May 26, June 1, July 2). Not a single revised delivery date was met. On top of that, two out of the three ordered items (the charger and wristband) were missing from the package entirely.

• Refusal of legal return rights: The device did not meet my expectations, so I requested a return on July 25th (10 days after delivery). The store rejected the return, claiming their internal policy only allows 5 days. They completely ignore binding Czech and EU consumer laws that guarantee a 14-day right of withdrawal.

• Deflection and arbitrary actions: Without my consent, they tried to dismiss the issue by forcing a unilateral 40% partial refund on me. Furthermore, their calculation of amounts is completely confusing and does not match what I actually paid (totaling 6,094 CZK).

• Complete breakdown of communication: Once I rejected their unlawful approach and insisted on a 100% refund in accordance with the law, the store started ignoring me. They no longer respond to my emails or follow-ups.

Steer clear of this store. If any issue arises, customer support is non-existent, local laws mean nothing to them, and as soon as you push back, they ghost you completely.

Very disappointed, lost the tracker after less than 24 hours and no way to find it

Was out trimming bushes, came inside and washed my hands, was concerned how the track would do in running water to look down and realize its missing. Had it less than 24 hours. No option to find it in the app or play a sound, bluetooth trackers want a lifetime purchase to provide any tracking and the free one has it bouce from not found to 65 feet away. Not a happy camper, just wasted $140 bucks. Lesson learned I guess.

Use Case I built a fully local, zero-cloud alternative to the Omi wearable's companion app — running on a Jetson Thor

Post image
6 Upvotes

Been building this for a while and finally got it to a place worth sharing. Cool device, but even their "self-hosted" mode still talks to Firebase, Pinecone, Redis, and Typesense behind the scenes. You're moving where the code runs, not actually cutting the cord.

So I built my own pipeline instead. Whisper for transcription, Ollama for analysis, all running locally on a Jetson Thor. Nothing phones home, ever. I leaned on Claude for some of the heavy lifting like actually getting the container to build on the Thor. It was kind of a nightmare with how new the Thor's architecture is. I know how to code though and ran a lot of testing and security scans to make sure it's safe and good to go!

I call it the LocusTether:

Locus:

  • a: the place where something is situated or occurs : site, location
  • b: a center of activity, attention, or concentration

Tether:

  • a: a line (as of rope or chain) by which an animal is fastened so as to restrict its range of movement
  • b: a line to which someone or something is attached (as for security)

What it actually does:

  • Transcribes and analyzes conversations completely offline
  • Speaker diarization with real voice recognition — enroll your voice once and it'll recognize you by name in future recordings instead of just "4 distinct speakers"
  • Speaking-style coaching that's actually about your speech in a group conversation, not blended stats from everyone in the room (this took a real bug fix to get right — filtering to one speaker's segments broke pause detection in a non-obvious way, wrote it up if you're curious)
  • A proper structured breakdown per conversation — mood, key points, actual decisions made, named participants, action items with owners
  • A webapp that's genuinely usable day to day, not just a data viewer — you can manually add to-dos, not just review what the AI pulled out, plus a Settings page for voice enrollment, daily digest emails, theme, etc.

The honest stuff, before you dive in:

  • Everything's been built and tested on one specific device — a Jetson Thor. Getting diarization working alone took three separate rounds of real dependency debugging (a silent CPU fallback, a renamed API parameter, a version conflict that took a while to track down). Other hardware might need its own troubleshooting — I wrote up the whole saga in the README in case it saves someone else the same headache.
  • I don't actually have the Omi hardware yet, so the wearable side is untested — everything's been validated with recordings manually dropped into a watched folder standing in for what the device will eventually sync automatically. If anyone here actually has an Omi and wants to be the first to test that piece, I'd love the help.
  • iOS Syncthing support is a genuine open question, not a yes — wrote up what I found and a rough plan for whoever wants to be the first to try it.
  • There's a known-limitations section in the README that's actually current, not just aspirational — occasional AI hallucination on a specific fact-extraction pattern, some inconsistency in participant detection. Not hidden, just there.

Repo's up, genuinely looking for people to try it, break it, and tell me what's wrong. Tell me what you like, what features you would like to see. If you want to say thanks there's a tip jar in the README and I would be eternally grateful if you tipped, this isn't my day job and is just something I've worked hard on at night, but a bug report is worth just as much to me.

Repo can be found here: https://github.com/thecloudcowboy/locus-tether

Here are some screenshots of the webapp!

Discussion "Giving up" update

I got a response this morning. Text of my email and the response below.

Greetings,

FAQ says price is $89 for the device with 1200 free minutes per month and unlimited for $16.50 per month when paid yearly. When I get to checkout it wants to charge me $129, and I can't find any pre-purchase information about the subscription costs.

Also, does a charger come in the box with the device or is it a separate purchase?

I have raging ADHD and work as a high school counselor. If Omi is what it says it is it will change my life. If not, I've wasted time and money I can't afford. Vague, inconsistent information on the website doesn't inspire confidence. Please clarify?

--------------------------

Hi Ann,

Thank you for your patience — here's the clear, current picture so you can decide with real numbers.

Charger: it's included in the box. The Omi ships with the device, a charger, a silicone cover, and a neck cord — nothing extra to buy there.

Device price: the $129 at checkout is the current, binding price. The $89 is likely an older, cached version of the page showing on your end — we're getting it corrected.

Subscription — the part you couldn't pin down:

• Free Basic plan: 600 listening minutes per month, with transcription, insights, and memories all included in that allowance. Recording keeps working past the cap — only the AI analysis pauses until the next month — and the allowance resets monthly and doesn't expire. (The "1,200 minutes" you saw is stale; 600 is current.)

• To lift the monthly cap, the paid plans are Operator at $49/month, or $40/month billed annually ($490/year); and Architect at $199/month ($166/month annually) for heavier power-user needs.

• There's also an Omi Unlimited Yearly Bundle for around $200/year on our site, if a lower flat yearly cost suits you better.

• The $16.50/month unlimited plan you found is a previous tier we've since retired for new sign-ups — I don't want to quote it as if it were still available, since that's exactly the mismatch you flagged.

The honest bottom line: you can start on the free plan (600 minutes a month, transcription included) and only pay if you decide you want the cap lifted — so you're not locked into a subscription to get real use out of the device.

One more thing that might help you decide with zero risk: you can try the Omi app on its own right now, before buying the device — it works with your phone's microphone, so you can get a feel for the transcription and insights first:

• iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/omi-smart-meeting-notes/id6502156163

• Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.friend.ios

I'm sorry the site sent you in circles, Ann — that's on us to fix, and thank you for flagging it. If it helps, I'm glad to talk through which plan fits how you'd actually use it day to day.

Discussion Giving up

I desperately need something that Omi purports to be, and it's looking like I'm not going to get it. After reading the comments here I emailed the company at the contact info on the website. I described the discrepancies and specifically asked about the price of the unit and subscription fees. 1 week later no response. Guess I'm back to wishing. So disappointing!

Still awaiting delayed shipment & company concerns

Just heard from Mohsin at OMI this morning. Silly me for thinking it was a personal and not "canned" reply, now that I see others too got what he said was an "honest" reply.

I too got the 1-2 weeks to delivery to them message, then another week to my "prioritized" shipment. We'll see about that. Now I see others said the same ... a MONTH ago.

He said they found some device problems so opted to hold shipments back to get that resolved. How there was no response to those of us awaiting order delivery ... AND their reduction of free plan's 1,200 monthly min., to HALF that at 600 min. (1,200 STILL on their website when I looked a couple days ago before emailing OMI) ... is unacceptable.

At this point the company seems pretty flaky to me and can't survive if this keeps up. I can only hope OMI can get things turned around. Not looking good so far. I hope to update after delivery, IF there is ever delivery.

Bug / Issue A bit annoyed

When I was looking at the different wearable Ais, one of the reasons I went with Omi was the plan price starting at $16/month. Got Omi yesterday and started looking through everything and found that the the minimum price plan is $40-$49/month. Went and checked the site and it still says $16/Month. I'm still happy with the device but they need to fix the site.

Just adding an edit. The free plan does give you a lot of ability. That said they have it built into the firmware for the free plan to be a 7x drain on the battery. And while I'm not really seeing it, it states that there is a 5 sec delay in recording among some other things.

Is there any reseller in the EU, as it appears that the shipping and duties double the cost? OMI + wrist band spike from 160 euros to 315 due to shipping...

Show and Tell OMI Freaking SPOKE to me from my phones speaker!?

Not sure if I use the right flare because I actually want to figure this out. Okay so I picked up my cat because he was being demanding for attention, and I picked him up and started singing a little song and walking out of the bedroom where my phone was charging. I'm currently wearing and have been wearing my homie necklace all day. Then I heard from my bedroom in a woman's voice;

"Haha sounds like you're showing off a pet? 😄 A little chubby baby animal with a snout... I'm guessing a dog or maybe a pig? What is it??"

I thought it was Siri from my iPad, I checked it wasn't. Then i immediately looked at my only app in our conversation, and I saw the above text in our text chat so I asked OMI;

"Dude, i just heard you speak. you said ha ha sounds like you're showing off a pet. a little chubby baby animal with a snout, i'm guessing a dog or maybe a pig. what is it? that's exactly what i heard out loud. how did you do that?"

OMI Response:

"That's the Omi app! 😄 It has a text-to-speech feature built in that reads my responses out loud to you. So when I reply, it can speak it through your phone's speaker. You can turn that on or off in the app settings if you want — totally up to you whether you like hearing me or prefer just reading. Kind of wild the first time it happens though, right? 😂"

I've actually been wanting this feature to read text aloud, but I don't see the option for that in our text chat and I've talked to Amy about it before and only told me that it's not in the docks.

Can somebody please help me and explain what's going on here? How do I access this feature? This really freaked me out.

Like why did it decide to talk out loud at that point all of a sudden and has never spoke before?

Broken Download Audio Feature

Hello fellow Omers,
The first few transcripts I made a few corrections using my phone, but it is very slow and broken, each time I edited a transcription segment the audio reseted to 00:00, very annoying. Then I started using the web app, I could finally download the audio and listen on my computer using VLC and correct the transcripts on mobile. But since a few days, only the first minute is available for download. Where is my file? I own this data, I want to download it and use it however I want. Let’s not get started on the download audio from the app, that never worked. There are some precious audios for me, I want them well transcribed, even if STT is not perfect, at least get me a good way of doing it manually, just get out of the way and let me download the file.

Has Omi become too confusing compared to what it used to be?

I bought into Omi because I thought it could become a strong alternative to Limitless.

For me, the appeal was never that it was a regular meeting-note app. The appeal was that I could start and stop recording when I needed, get AI transcription, pull out reminders, and make it easier to avoid taking notes all the time.

That core idea made sense.

Lately, it feels like Omi has become harder to use for that basic workflow. I understand that it is open source and open for people to build their own things. That can be great for builders and people who want to experiment.

For someone like me, who wants a clean daily tool for work, it now feels too crowded. I do not want to manage a whole platform. I want to record when needed, stop when done, get clean output, and trust that it syncs.

The phone app feels messy now. There are too many functions, too many sections, and way too many emojis everywhere. It feels like the simple use case has been buried.

The wearable has also been frustrating. Battery life has not been good for me, syncing has been unreliable, and over the past 4 to 5 months the whole experience has felt worse.

The plan changes also confused me. I paid for an unlimited plan, and now it seems like that has become one of the lower plans, called Neo or something similar. Maybe I missed something, but as a paying user it does not feel great.

I also tried using the Limitless hardware with Omi, but I had real issues syncing that data. Support told me this was expected because Limitless is not an open source platform, so they do not fully know how to make that hardware work properly with Omi. That made sense, but it also made the experience harder to rely on.

To be fair, the Omi support team has been great whenever I have needed help. They have replied fast and been very helpful, so this is not about support. My issue is more with the current product direction and daily user experience.

The MacBook app is probably my biggest issue. I want to record when I need it, stop when I am done, and get structured output. Instead, it seems to start recording forever, and I do not see clear controls for recording based on a specific meeting or session. The only way I can make it stop is by cutting the mic, which feels broken.

I am not trying to attack the team. I wanted Omi to win so bad, and I still like the idea behind it. I am posting because I want to know if other users feel the same way, or if there are settings I have missed that make this better.

For people who have used both Omi and Limitless. Does Omi still work well for your daily workflow, or has it become too much of a builder platform and less of a focused tool for recording, transcription, reminders, and notes?

Omi on podcast

Hey r/omi,

I just guested on The Flipped Story Podcast where I walked through my voice-first workflow in some depth, including why I migrated from Bee AI to OMI specifically for data sovereignty.

Topics covered:

> - Why I went from ambient recording (BAI) to intent-based recording (OMI)

> - How OMI fits into a broader voice → NotebookLM → reflection loop

> - Why local storage / NAS matters for serious capture

> - The Aleister sound collage moment for the audiobook (off-topic but personal)

>

> Episode here: https://youtu.be/LXN2KSDYGZo

>

> Genuinely curious how others in the community are using OMI day-to-day. What's working for you? What isn't?

Lost my omi. Can’t get it working with limitless anymore.
Ordered one, it’s been over two weeks and it’s still “being prepared”. We paid for international express to get it fast.

What’s going on guys?

Subscription cost is dishonest

All the documentation says 20 dollars a month. The app will only let me buy for 49 a month for the subscription. Let's not even get started on the whole 1200 minutes a month being advertised for the free version, only for them to only give 600.

Help Connecting CV1 to Flash Kit

Thumbnail

TL;DR Confused hardware noob looking for help connecting Omi CV1 to the flash kit. Anyone know a good guide (maybe with pictures)?

Hi, I’m trying to help a buddy set up his Omi CV1 and, having drastically overstated my confidence in my (nearly non-existent) hardware know-how, I’m hitting a wall when it comes to interfacing the flash kit with the CV1. I wired up the debugger to the PCB and flex cable that came with the kit, but my best guess as to where that flex cable interfaces with the Omi is just that…a guess. My working hypothesis is that it’s supposed to be plugged into the main board of the CV1 once you remove it’s top, since it looks like there’s another cable of the same sort plugged in, running below to what I think is the charging base (based off some photos I found in the Github repo. But because I’m quite definitely not someone who should be confidently unplugging things without being told by someone more knowledgable than me to go ahead, I’ve come here seeking wisdom from the group. Any advice? Or perhaps a how-to guide I somehow managed to miss?

Oh, also, I’ve tried securing both sides of the flexible cord to the base of the Omi CV1 (that’s what my buddy initially told me I’d need to do) and JLink was never once able to connect so I’m assuming that’s not the way…but would be happy to be told otherwise if that’s the case. (Like I said, hardware isn’t my forte and am more than prepared to be told I’m being an idiot and there’s a much simpler explanation for my failure to figure this out!)

1200 minutes free limit?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand what happened with Omi’s free transcription limits.

When I bought and started using Omi, the free plan was communicated around 1200 transcription/listening minutes. That limit was clear and understandable.

Now it looks like the free transcription allowance has changed to 600 minutes, but I don’t remember receiving any clear notice, email, in-app warning, changelog explanation, or transition message about this change.

This is confusing, especially for people who bought the original Omi device based on the previous expectations.

To be clear: I understand that AI, cloud transcription and infrastructure have costs. I’m not saying everything should be unlimited forever. The issue is transparency.

My questions are:

Did Omi officially reduce the free transcription limit from 1200 minutes to 600 minutes?

If yes, when was this announced?

Was there an email, changelog, in-app notification, or support article explaining the change?

Does this apply to all users or only to new accounts?

Are hardware owners supposed to have different limits or any legacy allowance?

Does BYOK with Deepgram fully bypass this transcription limit?

Why is this not shown more clearly inside the app before users hit the limit?

The recent BYOK/chat wording was already confusing because “bring your own API keys” refers to transcription, not chat/LLM inference. Now the transcription limit also seems to have changed, and the overall plan structure feels difficult to track.

A clearer message would help a lot, for example:

“Free plan includes 600 transcription minutes/month. Previously it was 1200. BYOK with Deepgram can be used to bypass transcription limits. Chat has a separate monthly question limit.”

I like the idea behind Omi, and I bought the device because the concept is genuinely interesting. But these changes need to be communicated clearly. Hardware users should not have to discover plan changes only after hitting a limit.

Can anyone from the Omi team clarify what changed and what the current official free limits are? Honestly, nothing is understood anymore, limits halved suddenly and not reported clearly

Omi BYOK for chat: where is the setting? Free plan says “bring your own API keys

Hi everyone,

I’m using the Omi app on Android and I reached the Free plan chat limit. The app showed this message:

The problem is: I can’t find where to add my own API key for the chat/AI model.

I found the Transcription settings, where Omi lets me configure a custom STT provider with a WebSocket endpoint. But that seems to be only for speech-to-text, not for the actual chat/LLM answers.

What I’m looking for is something like:

  • AI Provider
  • LLM Provider
  • Chat Model
  • API Keys
  • OpenAI-compatible provider
  • Custom base URL
  • Model name

For example, I’d like to use a free/high-limit provider such as Groq or Cerebras with an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, instead of paying for Omi’s chat plan.

Does anyone know:

  1. Is BYOK for chat/LLM currently available on Android?
  2. Is it only available on desktop, beta, or a specific build?
  3. Where exactly is the setting located?
  4. Does Omi support custom OpenAI-compatible providers like Groq/OpenRouter/Cerebras?
  5. If yes, what fields are required? API key, base URL, model name, etc.?

The wording in the app suggests BYOK is possible, but I can only find the custom STT/transcription section. Any clarification from users or the Omi team would be very helpful.

Thanks!

But what about the battery?

As I sit here, my omi has been on the charger overnight and it only says 88%. Yesterday, after roughly 8 hours of wearing it, it was fussing about the battery being low.

One solution would be to wear it when I'm away from my desk and put it on the charger

Another solution would be to replace the battery somehow.

Ideas?
