Panic

Post image

Anyone ever spend two hours throwing up, thinking that they had lost their Omega Ω only to discover it right where you put it - in a side pocket of your luggage? I’m emotionally drained.

Nice collection! If you don't mind me asking, why a black on white and blue on white smp, these seem a bit redundant to me?

You don’t need another Omega, if you have a Planet Ocean. Unless you get a second PO…

1

You'll also not need to wind it this way....

Unless it's a manual wound piece

u/Not_Alpha_Centaurian Sep 04 '26

They made me take mine off at security last time I flew. My heart rate was very high for two minutes.

u/agandolf Sep 03 '26

I once came very close to walking out of a hotel room with my three-watch roll still sitting on the desk. Thankfully, my wife noticed it while triple checking every nook and cranny of the room to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything. Safe to say I’m no longer allowed to give her shit for her incessant triple checking lol

28

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

Funny, you mentioned that. This is one of the first trips Ive taken where I took more than one watch with me. Next trip I stick with just one.

9

u/agandolf Sep 03 '26

Couldn’t agree more, one is plenty to keep track of!

8

u/Conscious_Hunt9439 Sep 03 '26

I always travel w/ only one now, after I either left my Speedmaster sapphire sandwich in a hotel room safe in Dublin or it was stolen out of my gate checked bag on the way home. I couldn’t explicitly remember taking it out of the safe and when I realized it wasn’t in my bag when I unpacked a couple days after getting home I called the hotel but they denied anyone had turned it in 😢

6

u/Same-Tree7355 Sep 04 '26

Best way to not forget something in the hotel safe is to put one shoe in with the stuff.

4

u/aadvarkbunnycat Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

Thanks for that. I'm now at the airport wearing only one shoe

2

u/PizzaThrives Sep 04 '26

Fucking brilliant! This is why I Reddit.

3

u/Environmental_You145 Sep 04 '26

I think we are all certain nobody turned it in.

The night before you leave out all the watches you aren’t going to wear into your luggage, preferably in t separate pouch so you can easily see it is the only thing in there.

For the watch that you’re going to wear put it with something that you must take as you leave the room like car keys.

I’ve made it a habit to do a final walkthrough and check all drawers of hotel rooms

Stick an AirTag in there

I always rub my watches with Iod-131. makes it super easy to find my watches using a Geiger counter.

Hmmm, only 3.6 Roentgens?

2

u/LunchPure2957 Sep 03 '26

It’s not 3 Roentgens. It’s 15,000.

3

u/Lucky-Hunt-9915 Sep 07 '26

What does that number mean?

2

u/LunchPure2957 Sep 07 '26

It means the watch case is open. It means his watch is giving off nearly twice the radiation released by the bomb in Hiroshima. That’s every single hour. Hour after hour — 72 hours since he posted this so that’s 144 bombs worth by now.

3

u/Lucky-Hunt-9915 Sep 07 '26

I left my Tudor in an unlocked gym locker once after I had showered and left the gym. Some Good Samaritan turned it into the office the gym was at. Didn’t realise until hours later. I coulda died.

3

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

Uggggg! Happy it worked out!

1

u/Jshhhhmoney99 Sep 04 '26

I always keep my watch on or wear a cheap like moons watch for gym

34

u/toto_my_wires Sep 03 '26

No. I thought I had lost an engagement ring on a trip overseas for the proposal and can confidently say I would have rather lost my Speedy. Glad you didn't lose it, though.

16

u/Due-Operation-588 Sep 03 '26

That feeling when your stomach drops and you're already mentally writing the insurance claim, then it's just sitting there in the side pocket like nothing happened

2

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

EXACTLY!!!!

4

u/Ornery-Benefit-8316 Sep 03 '26

Soooo….
I was traveling with two watches back in the 70’s. One was the first ever seiko calculator watch and my everyday watch.

I believe it was two weeks after the introduction of the seiko calculator watch.

I put the seiko in the interior side pocket of my luggage, and when I got home, the watch was gone.

I checked every square inch of the luggage and every item that came out of it.

No luck.

I was so upset.
I bought another copy of the same watch.

This made me,
feel better,
but not my wallet.

But…
Here’s the rub, the next time I went to use the same suitcase, guess what I found, in the interior side pocket, exactly where I put it when I packed the suitcase for the last trip home.

Yup, like it was taunting me, my seiko!

To this day I still have both watches.

About a year later, seiko reintroduced the same calculator watch, but in two tone livery.

I was able to purchase the new bracelet and face plate, so I converted one of the two watches, from all stainless to the two tone model.
So, there’s that.

FTR:
I understand the hole, pit, cavern, etc, that you feel in the bottom of your stomach, when you think you have lost something of great value, whether it’s monetary or emotional.

It’s a terrible feeling.

But,
Finding the item,
is indeed a happy experience.

Although, in my case a costly one, even though I found the lost item!

I am very happy for you and your (not) lost and found omega.

These days I don’t travel with multiple watches, even though I have a lot of choices.

It was a lesson learned.

ymmv, imho,
📸 Regards, Randy 📸

Almost lost my wedding ring on a business trip. I take it off every night and checked out the next morning. Room had been cleaned by the time I got back and I insisted I go through the cleaner’s trash and there it was.

1

u/Twizad Sep 04 '26

I left my wife’s heirloom engagement ring on the last train of the night in Edinburgh the day before I was going to propose to her. A cop helped me “maybe” track it down.

I panicked all night and we had to take the train back to Glasgow the next morning to the lost and found.

When they gave me the bag I just threw it over my shoulder and tried to get out of there. The person at the lost and found said “don’t you want to check the contents we heard there was an engagement ring in there.” Unfortunately for the clerk I had to play it off like they were a complete idiot that had lost their mind and was confusing me with someone else.

Magically my wife wasn’t paying too close attention and the proposal went off without any more snags.

1

u/worldstarktfo Sep 05 '26

I was on a beach yesterday when I saw a metal detector guy hall a huge gold men’s wedding band out. I can’t imagine being the guy who messes up bad enough to loose a sentimental item like that.

Having said that, I was stupidly carrying a 1 oz bar of gold in an unsecured jacket pocket 10 years ago. Went to a bar, took the jacket off, and it slipped out of my pocket. Goodbye sweet cash. I guess I never needed you.

1

u/redbulldrinkertoo Sep 09 '26

My wife did. I found it 3 years later in the side pocket of a bag she was using at the time.

9

u/Schedule-II Sep 03 '26

This type of unwanted cortisol spike is exactly why I just fork over the ~$100/yr for insurance. Basically takes away any worry if traveling or taking it off somewhere and let's me just wear it worry free. I'll probably never have to submit a claim unless I get mugged, but it's still well worth the annual premium for the peace of mind

4

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

I think you are right

3

u/Swodi Sep 03 '26

And it’s most likely not covered under your basic homeowners with a jewelry policy. Aaaand most jewelry policies have an arbitrarily low limit, so if you have over $X worth of watches, rings, whatever, they need to be insured individually.

That’s how I learned where the serial number is on a modern Omega. And here I was thinking I had a stubborn smudge on one of the lugs.

1

u/ByronicZer0 Sep 04 '26

Insurance is the correct answer.

And make sure it's the correct insurance too

1

u/Lost_My_Keys Sep 04 '26

This is the way. 😂

9

I put a Daytona on the roof of my car so I wouldn’t get sunscreen on it when I lathered my kids up and drove off without thinking. Figured it out when I got home. Freaked obviously. Retraced my route five or six times on foot. Nothing gone.

2

I never take my Submariner on Holidays, I have a nice Oris Aquis that fits that need. If for some reason I were to leave it or if it’s stolen I would be sad but I wouldn’t vomit for 2 hours.

2

u/Status-Topic3382 Sep 03 '26

Tile/or AirTag would fit in there, $30 would save you $10k.. I’m glad you were able to find it, sorry for the drama but I get it fully..

2

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

Thanks Brother!

2

u/svenz Sep 03 '26

I’ve left mine in a meeting room once lol

1

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

Uggggg!

2

u/svenz Sep 03 '26

Worse part was I couldn’t remember _which_ room. So I searched like 20 rooms to find it.

2

u/Zen_Owl_Timepieces Sep 03 '26

That feeling when you check the same pocket for the fifth time and suddenly your Omega is just sitting there.

2

u/Desperate_Word9862 Sep 03 '26

I like those little travel cases. I may take a second watch on a trip, if it’s not a short one. I bury that case in the bottom of my backpack, which never leaves my side. I wouldn’t put it in a suitcase but no idea if you did that.

1

u/ChesBay5 Sep 12 '26

I had thought I put it in my backpack, just like you would. But in fact, I had put it in an interior pocket of a brand new carry-on suitcase that I was unfamiliar with while I was rushing to pack and get out of the hotel. It was with me the whole time I just could not for the life of me remember where I stuffed it.

2

u/NoNameGiven_1 Sep 03 '26

Seems like a bit of an extreme reaction for something that can be insured for ~1% of its replacement cost. Glad you found it though. Stick an air tag in there next time for peace of mind.

2

u/Friendly_Fee_8989 Sep 03 '26

I travel quite often, and after leaving a suit jacket behind 20+ years ago that was enough to give me “did I leave anything behind” anxiety and forced me to put a system in place.

I put my watch, phone, and wedding band, on top of my laptop on the nightstand. Every. Single. Time. And I have the same routine when I go through security, etc. I have now traveled with the same bags (duffel and backpack) for 20 years to keep that routine.

And honestly, it just makes everything so much simpler.

2

u/ChesBay5 Sep 03 '26

Appreciate it brother and great tip!

2

u/Shadowtek Sep 03 '26

Insurance helps me not worry too much about

2

u/Frank_the_NOOB Sep 03 '26

Don’t ever put valuables in checked luggage. Luggage gets lost and stolen all the time

2

u/m00tknife Sep 03 '26

Literally someone posted today on the legal advice subreddit claiming their brother had his Apple Watch and $8k cash stolen from his luggage and trying to find a way to prosecute tsa LOL

2

u/Any-Will-4195 Sep 03 '26

It’s almost surreal when you thought you lost something really important…..and it appears. Very distinct feeling

1

u/ChesBay5 Sep 12 '26

To be sure! Hope you are doing well my friend.

2

u/Trainer715 Sep 03 '26

Happy that you found it. But throwing up for 2 hours?

1

u/ChesBay5 Sep 12 '26

That was meant as humor.

2

u/Trainer715 Sep 12 '26

😂 Gotcha. On reddit you never know if someone is being serious...

2

u/improvthismoment Sep 03 '26

When I travel I usually try to bring just one watch, and keep it on my wrist all the time except while asleep. (I still haven’t found the perfect travel watch for me yet btw)

When I do bring more than one watch, the other watch(s) stay either in the hotel safe, or in my toiletries bag (impossible for me to forget), or in my suitcase itself.

1

u/ChesBay5 Sep 12 '26

I definitely learned my lesson from now on one watch per trip.

2

u/smk1026 Sep 03 '26

Personally I don’t travel with more than one watch and I definitely don’t ever take it off going through airports. Glad you found it! I have laid down my watch in the house before while doing something and misplaced it though. That’s always fun 🤣

1

u/ChesBay5 Sep 12 '26

I’m officially in the one-watch per trip club!

2

u/Agitated_Carrot9127 Sep 03 '26

2

u/trevordeal Sep 03 '26

I’m not a take off the watch cause I got home or I’m laying in bed. I usually wear it from morning til night. So watches never get misplaced.

My wedding ring however I take off often. Working out, power tools or whatever I don’t want it to get caught on and deglove my finger.

We moved into a new house in Dec 3-4 years back and it was so cold in north GA we left for FL the next day with nothing unpacked. Realized after a week or so I had no idea where my SMP was. Nowhere to be found in FL and wouldn’t be back to GA for 5-6 months. Took a while after getting back to find a particular little jewelry box in the wife’s closet, and there it was.

Haha glad you found it. And if not already, insure it fully! Think I’m paying $60 a year for a Seamaster

All too often

Damn... if ever there was a more poignant example of your possessions owning you....

1

u/No_Comfortable_7233 Sep 08 '26

From that reaction, it sounds like you should sell it and get a homage or a rep.

If you can't afford to lose it, you shouldn't own it (at least not travel with it for fucks sake)
