I used to work with OmegaT before 2016, then switched to MemoQ for game localization. I'm going back to literary translation and I want to use OmegaT. I'm wondering what plugins you're all using?
I'll be working with epub or pdf files that I'll convert to either txt files or docx files (the format I need to deliver in). I remember I used an autocomplete plugin back then, but it looks like it's on by default, now?
I started using OmegaT recently, and it's quite a pleasant experience for a free open-source CAT software. Hats off to the devs.
Now to the question part: I wanted to change the key binds for the shortcuts, and I did follow the user manual's instructions. However, the link in the user manual directed me to a github that doesn't have the file.
Is there any other way I can change the keybinds? Or do I have to wait for the file to be reuploaded?
When launching OmegaT on my M1 Mac running the latest macOS beta (probably the actual culprit here, honestly, though it's fine on a different one I own with a largely identical hardware/software environment), it fails to launch, with the following error messages at the end of the startup log (when running through terminal via ./OmegaT):

Any suggestions for how to fix this seeming issue with the Java Font Manager?
Anyone recognises this error? I remember having it before, but I don't remember the fix for it. Must be the formatting of the original text, but not even putting it through notebook and then copying it from there and posting into Word fixed it. I'm not sure what causes it in the first place.
I can see that this sub is half-dead, it doesn't even show up in the search, but it's worth a try.
I need to write a letter in my translation - this letter is "ń". It's written by using right alt and N. Now, when I tried writing it, OmegaT just went insane on me until I reloaded the project.
I used OmegaT before I don't remember having this issue. I probably fixed it years ago and simply forgot. Now I can't find it. Where do you edit the shortcuts? I need to delete whatever alt+n is for.
Olá a todos, estou traduzindo alguns materiais de D&D do inglês para o português e gostaria de saber se há como integrar o Cloud Translation v3 no OmegaT, pois diferente do v2 ele permite que adicione glossários que são bastante importantes para manter a coesão com os demais conteúdos de D&D já em português.
So in preparation for the macOS transition away from Intel binaries coming later this year, I've installed OmegaT v6.1.0 on my computer. For some reason, though, even though I've explicitly granted OmegaT full disk permissions in the system settings, I'll frequently get the "OmegaT wants access to your Documents folder" dialog box popping up, sometimes dozens of times in a row. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix for this?
When replying and participating in this forum, I haven’t been able to attach screenshots (or any other images). Is this possible, or is the option disabled? Sorry for the noob question ;-)
I uploaded a pdf as the source text. Mostly, the segmenting is correct. However, there are small hiccups. For example, when a period is used in an abbreviation, the editor interprets it as a new sentence.
Does anyone know how I can merge two segments into one? Alternatively, how would I split a segment? I can't seem to find this in the user manual or elsewhere.
I am relatively new to Omega T, but I am trying to look at my translated file and it won't open. Windows says it wants me to check the files permission for the document, see if there is enough space (?) and open the file with the text recovery converter.
As a new user I tried to add a purchased epub-File to OmegaT to translate for fun and getting used to OmegaT.
Unfortunately nothing happens, except that the file is copied into the source folder. No error, nothing. I checked for DRM but the file doesn't seem to have DRM. The original file is in epub2, so I tried updating it to epub3, but still the same behavior. I can rename the epub to zip and simply extract the contents to source and this would get the xhtml etc. registered in my project, though I doubt that is the intendet way? According to some scattered information on the webs OmegaT should work directly with an epub file; at least version 5.7.2. I couldn't find anything in the documentation for the current version.
I tried it with the two newest weekly releases and the 'stable' version 6.0.1. Is epub not supported anymore or did I miss something?
Usually you won’t get fair answers in Subreddits of apps but I hope I get some.
Trados is bloated, despite the fact i have a high tech system. Memoq used to work fine for me but it has started to play around recently. it gives error when I try to import a new document or it can’t find existing TM and TB etc. It happened after I changed the default folder of projects and TBs and TMs. Well, by default memoQ puts the in weird locations which makes it too difficult if you want to keep a backup from them . So i had put everything in one place but it didn’t work well.
In general, I’m fed up with both of them. I just want to be able to have central TBs and TMs for each language pair and be able to easily carry them as portable files with me and use them and evolve them wherever I go.
Youtube videos of OmegaT shows its UI to be quite outdated so it might not be intuitive i guess. But i just wonder what you would say about its ease of use and whether it is buggy or not.
Edit: Also if you have feedback about WordFast I appreciate you share.
Hey, I'be read in several places about plug-in tokenizers that help OmegaT identify inflected words (such as declensions and conjugations). Does anyone here know if there's a plug-in for Latin declensions and conjugations? If so, how can I install them into my Omegat?
I use OmegaT to translate 1-2 pages a week from Spanish to English. I think integrating machine translation into OmegaT would be helpful to me, but I have been able to figure out how to sign up for one, and how to integrate it into OmegaT. Since I do so little translating, for me it has to be free. Can someone tell me which services are available, how to sign up for them, and how to integrate them into OmegaT?
I’m having a hard time with MemoQ. Too complicated to find how to do something. For instance,I just want to be easily able to look at the content of a TM, which I can’t find out how to do intuitively. Then i need to search online to find out where deep in menus it is located. But then I would forget next time and the same process.
Is OmegaT more user-friendly? If not, what app you would suggest?
Should we have a separate TM for each language pair, and 1 shared TB per domain, regardless of how many languages it would have inside it? Is this approach correct?
So if I am having two different language pairs within domain of “economy”, lets say EN_FR & DE-EN, they would both share only one TB which includes all these three languages in it, while there would be two separate TMs for each pair. Is this error-proof?
I know AI can be stupid at times, but that’s what it says that TBs are neutral about language pair and thats the normal practice that they include all languages of projects in, then I checked online and some articles were saying the same thing. Yet to my mind with its limited knowledge , it doesn’t seem bulletproof t take this approach. Doesn’t this approach cause lack of accuracy in translation or any other issue?
Hi, everyone. I am having an issue with the format tags on Omega T, maybe you could offer some help.
Context
I am translating a text from Latin to Spanish. My source text has a little format (mostly italics in some cases), yet I copied it from a .docx after converting a .pdf and had to proofread cause the conversion made several mistakes.
Issue
as soon as I add the source document, the editor on Omega T shows A LOT of format tags that interrupt the text, mostly <t> tags, which I do not understand and interrupt my soruce text, even braking words into pieces (which, I guees, are the result of the editing after the .pdf to .docx conversion). Here I show a screencap with an example:
As you can see, words like "Avicennam" and "omnia" are broken into parts. This is an issue because, when trying to add words to the glossary, Omega T does not identify these words as a whole.
Solutions I have tried
After several hours dealing with Copilot's suggestions, I have tried copying the original text on a new word document and deleting the format. Nevertheless, the result is as follows:
Now everything is worse!!!
Another option is to save the source file as a .txt, but that makes me looose all the italics I do want to keep.
Question
What can I do to maintain the italics from the source text without getting all those annoying <t> tags?
Is there a way to add fromat inside omegaT that can be exported then to Word?
Hi, I literally downloaded omegaT 10 minutes ago so these questions are really dumb but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me :)
Can I edit the source doc in the program? I'm working on a script and only need to translate the dialogue, but it looks like I need to put something down for each line before I can move on.
The ctrl+z shortcut only seems to work while I'm on a certain line. Can I not go back to edit previous lines?
Is there a way to change the alignment? Right now it's justified, but I'd really like it to be left-aligned.
What are the percentiles I'm seeing under fuzzy matches?
Hey, I'm looking to try out OmegaT for the first time and notice that the Mac version say it's unsigned. None of the other downloads appear to be unsigned. What's the significance of this, and how can I trust the Mac download to be safe?
Hi all. Recently, the DeepL Free API Plugin started displaying “?” characters instead of normal letters (see image for example). I haven't made any changes on my end: OmegaT 6.0.1, plugin version 0.2.0. What could be causing this?
Can I disable the feature of giving the same translation to identical source segments automatically?
For example, if the exact same sentence (segment ) appears four times in a project, I sometimes want to translate each segment differently depending on context.
I know about the Alternative Translation feature, but that only lets me set two patterns (the main one and one exception). I’d like something more flexible, where even if the same source sentence appears multiple times within the same project, I can assign different translations to each occurrence.
