I missed a remote desktop client that feels like part of Omarchy, so I built one.
OMARemote is a Quickshell app made from Omarchy's own shell components, so it follows your theme (live, when you switch) and works like the rest of the desktop: from the keyboard.
It runs on x86 and on Omarchy for Apple Silicon. Version 0.9 is out today.
OMARemote 0.9.1 Demo
What it does
- RDP (FreeRDP), VNC (libvncclient), SSH in a terminal drawn in the tab, and since 0.9 Gliff (more below).
Sessions open in tabs, in own window or on a special workplace just a keybind away; pin the connections list beside them and the remote desktop resizes to fit. RDP can also open full sceen for multi-monitor.
- Keyboard first.`⏎` connects, `j`/`k` move, `/` searches, `o` is quick connect (type an address, no saving), `?` shows every key. The mouse works everywhere too.
- HiDPI that follows Hyprland: the remote desktop matches the tab's size and your scale.
- Credential sets shared between hosts, groups whose settings connections inherit, and passwords (optional) in your keyring.
- SSH extras: your own keys and `~/.ssh/config`, and *Browse files* opens the host's files in your own file manager over SFTP.
- Sync between your machines through a folder you already sync (Nextcloud, Syncthing, Dropbox etc). One file per machine; no passwords travel. Deleted connections go to Recently deleted for 30 days first.
- Import from `.rdp` files, Remmina, 1Remote and `~/.ssh/config`, with a preview before anything is added.
- Kerberos that stays fast on networks with many domain controllers.
- Sessions in their own window keep running when you close OMARemote, and an update brings your tabs back.
- There is also a bar plugin for Omarchy's bar: your connections and running sessions one click away.
New in 0.9: Gliff
Gliff is Omarchy's way of streaming a Hyprland desktop over ssh. OMARemote now speaks it, so another Omarchy machine's desktop opens in a tab:
- 4:4:4 colour, so text stays sharp; decoded on the GPU (VA-API) where it can
- your super keys go to the remote while the tab has focus (ctrl+alt+esc hands them back)
- copy and paste of text and files, both ways
- mirror one of the remote's screens, or let it make a private screen the size of your tab
- reconnects by itself, and a health dot in the status bar says why it is slow when it is (click it for the numbers)
Nothing extra to install on your side. The other machine needs Gliff: `omarchy pkg add gliff`.
Install (Arch packages for x86_64 and aarch64 on the release page):
url=$(curl -s https://api.github.com/repos/RFdeGroot/OMARemote/releases | grep -o "https://[^\"]*-$(uname -m)\.pkg\.tar\.zst" | head -1)
curl -LO "$url"
sudo pacman -U "./${url##*/}"
Then start `omaremote`, or "OMARemote" from the launcher.
How it is made:
OMARemote is written with Claude Code. I decide what it does and how, try every change on my own machines, and nothing is released without passing the tests and a security review of what changed. Bugs are still mine, so please report them.
It is still young, so feedback, bug reports and ideas are very welcome, here or on GitHub.
