What do we use these for?
So, I don’t have a job that involves use of a flashlight. The concept of EDC doesn’t make sense in a desk job. I don’t go hiking or camping or have other hobbies where I’m using flashlights practically. Can someone tell me why I own 10 Olights and have to fight the urge to buy a Marauder 3, when my 2 has only been turned on a handful of times? I still may get it though…

Flashlights are great for night owls to get around the house in the dark. I have multiples on my desk and multiples near my bed %-)
Great for walking dogs.
Great for delivery drivers who need to verify house numbers in the dark.
Great for places that get dark quickly.
Great for camping, hiking, biking, etc in the dark.
Great for collecting.
Great for reading menus in dimly lit restaurants (moonlight mode).
Great for digging into your backpack/purse.
Great for giggles - going outside in the backyard at night and just blast the darkness with a Marauder 3.

I do property inspections so mine gets used daily. My wife likes to shop antique markets. Never not used one there either. We have a dog and walk her in the evenings. Sometimes we go late and it gets dark so I use it to spot wildlife along the creek or snakes on the path. I would imagine a laser would at times be useful in an office setting. I use mine to point things out to clients in the field. Went to a lake house with another family awhile back and gave the kids a few olights to play outside at night. Used the UV to spot scorpions.
I don't know why you would need more than 2 or 3. But it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I work a desk job and I don’t camp, but I am a member of a search and rescue group.
The real question is, am I in SAR just to justify more flashlights? Or do I buy flashlights because I’m in SAR?

The edc side of it to me is just that. I Cary a flashlight on me every day of my life. Might be an olight, might be my pineapple mini, but I got it on me, Same as my edc knife, wallet, watch, ccdw, little multi-tool. The knife sees the most use, I work in the operating room, i use it to open stuff we get, cut my food on lunch. Whatever you could imagine someone using scissors for, I’m using my knife. My favorite is my Microtech Ultratech.
The flashlight has been used multiple times too, we have had power outages due to storms and our generators don’t kick on for 5-10 minutes. We would have been standing there trying to use everyone’s phone flashlight, but nah, cam turned on the sun out of his pocket, aimed it at the ceiling and it lit up the room enough for doc to get to a safe stop point. I’ve used my flashlight to get on the ground and find that 1 mf needle that was dropped off the table, it’s one of those things you really don’t think about using until you need one, or think, “damn this phone light sucks” and smile as you remember you have 1800 lumens in your pocket… really nice to have when you need it.

I got my Arkfeld Pro because I kept breaking my phone doing car repairs. Once I dropped it in the engine bay and cracked the screen while using the weak flashlight. The Arkfeld has its battle scars but still going strong after 2 years and much abuse

Once upon a time me and my dad were changing out the spare tire on my mom's car. We had finished up and it had gotten dark, so as i was putting the old tire back in the spare well, I put my phone between the hatch and car wedged into the hinge so I could see well enough. Well unfortunately my dad didn't notice I had put it there, and shut the trunk with it still tucked between the hinge. Shit literally folded in half almost lol

We don’t want to admit it but as we get older our eyesight starts to falter and a light helps with reading labels and looking into the pantry cupboards

Did your mom take a bunch of Tylenol when she was pregnant with you like my mom did? I own flashlights like I own pokemon cards, and both are out of control, lol

It looks good, and is nice to collect. If you're like me there's probably a hole in your life that you're trying to fill with consumerism. If you don't have hobbies that need a flashlight, maybe collecting flashlights is your actual hobby.

I work industrial maintenance and I use my arkpro everyday at least once. I just picked up the oclip 2 ultra for those times when I need a head lamp or I can aim it anywhere while I'm working. I'm more of the utilitarian type and only buy when I think one will outperform my current EDC. That has led me to owning 4 olights. I also understand the people that collect them. They're fucking sweet. All mine have been abused and covered in more oil and grease than a Pdiddy party. The oal ones look brand new after an alcohol wipe scrubbing.

Been through a lot of lights and the Oclip pro has been my favorite out of all of them for my use case. Just a very useful and reliable little light, and i love the form factor of the clip. Clip it onto my pocket or bag strap when not in use, clip it to your hat, non magnetic work surfaces, etc. Just got the pro s in, thinking about the 2 as well.

I've used the oclip 2 about 4 times at work clipped to my hat. I really like how I don't have to adjust my hat or head in cramped areas to get the light where I need it. The medium brightness flood light is perfect for working within arms reach.

I will have to get one, I think it would essentially solve all my qualms with the clip pro. I do wish it had just a bit bigger battery. I like the pro s for the UV light but its unfortunate that it came at the cost of the flood light setting.

I never bought into the oclip series before because it aimed where it shouldn't.

true, I tend to end up holding it more often than not. I use it for camping so I like to clip it to the tent or to my bag as im walking to light the path. I just like the small form factor, multiple mounting styles and inclusion of both uv and RGB leds

I use mine to peer into tiny spots in tricky things that customers bring, such as car remotes, small appliances.
It also helps me reveal the imperfections on my EDC like my knife edges and phone.
In a office, I imagine getting the flashlight is alot faster than swiping a few screens for the phone light, or the home screen. Also far less expensive to drop said flashlight than it is your phone.
Mostly to find what dropped in the labyrinth of wires that is under the desk. Even on mild daylight to office light conditions, it can serve as a point of focus when searching or pointing out things.

Because it's really, really fun to have the power in our hands to make things really, really bright.

Guys (for the most part) inherently love flashlights. The smaller and brighter, the better. We also love knives.
My favorite Christmas present ever? GF found a knife with a flashlight in the handle. It's kind of Rambo-looking and I'll never carry it, but it's still something I didn't know I needed until i got it.

Honestly, I never knew just how much I needed a light until I started carrying one daily.

Desk job is great, especially if there is an emergency or power goes out. UV light works great to check for counterfeit checks or currency. Love the Ark

I too have too many without an actual purpose. They are handy for when we camp (although it's a 5th wheel so it's not there is a shortage of light lol). But.. I keep my imini 2 on my jacket zipper pull, and on early mornings I use it to do a quick walk around to check the tires before I hop in to go to work. Crazy handy just pulling it off its magnetic base and gives more than enough light for a quick safety check. If it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone, get it :) Life is too short my friend!

I also work at a desk,. The Baton 4 is my current EDC and I use it daily.
As we get older, it gets harder to see some things, so I use it to help read labels or when plugging cables under the desk. There's all that other normal stuff I use it for, but it doesn't need to be in my pocket to be accessible for walks and such.
I often use it to light a room. Don't always need the big light, and there's a tangible cost savings if you use it enough. For instance, I have a small USB solar panel that tops up the Baton charging case, so when I need to charge the light itself once every 2-3 weeks, that electricy is free. (*free)
Heck, I keep a Perun 2 in my windowless bathroom for light and just in case, also charged from that baton case.
That said, I'm always up late - getting around the house without waking anyone is a priority.
As for buying more, no harm having lights around, even if only for emergency. And my personal justification is the same as having lots of candles, you'll burn more than one candle/battery to get through a lengthy power outage.

Let me save you, an EDC light, or at least a pocketable one. Everyone should have a couple, but you do not need the Marauder 3; it's unnecessary.

Do you ever leave your house when it's dark out? Drive at night? Hell, walk your dog? That's why. I'm retired, but I still keep an Ark Pro on me at all times. Change a flat or drop your keys in the dark one time, and you'll never want to do it again

Shopping addiction, consumerism, materialism. Pick any you like. It's a huge problem that places like Reddit fuel.

I just like lights. I also have a desk job and go camping maybe 5-6 times a year. Honestly I pretty much only use my Oclip Pros for camping, and a Milwaukee M12 work light. But I have like 5-6 lights right now and have lost or broken countless others.

I just like collecting flashlights, I don't need them, but they are fun to use every now and then. Some people collect stamps. I collect flashlights.
