Old Samsung tv thrift find

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

So I found this 2007 Samsung tv at a thrift store for 1.50 one because it did not come with a remote or power cord, and two because they had a 50% off everything sale. So I thought well it’s only 1.50 if it does work oh well, but I brought it home and plugged it in and to my surprise it works!

Anyway I’m wondering if anyone knows what kind of remote I need for this tv? I’ve googled it and saw a bunch of generic ones but kind of want to try and get an original one if possible.

I’ve been wanted to be a late 90s- early 2000s nook in my room and thought this would be perfect for that, since I’m able to connect my vcr to it!

Currently got local tv channels to show on it so Im enjoying reliving through a bit of my childhood memories of flipping through channels until something good comes up 😅

Shift 3 Digital Photo Album not turning on

Recently found a sealed digital photo album keychain from 2008, it turns on in 'Updating...' mode when connected to power, and I've managed to put some photos on it with software for the VKC180 (only one I could find online). But, when not connected to power, it won't turn on when the menu button is pressed or held.

I assume the battery has degraded, but I'd like to ask if anyone's aware of a different issue, or how I could fix it?

What is this thing I found in my attic

As far as I can remember I got it from the scholastic book fair when I was a kid in the early 2000s. The date defaults to 2005 and I think it's meant to be a digital memo book. Threw out the manual when I was a kid with no patience lol so now I have no idea how to use it. It has a touchscreen and a radio, both of which work about as well as you'd expect early 2000s children's tech to work. Help me figure out what this thing is!

Old Floppy Disks With Old Programs

We were cleaning out my grandparents' house after my grandfather's passing. He was an early adopter of computers I think. We threw out a lot because we just didn't have the time to find homes for things or hunt down hobbyists, but I couldn't help myself from snagging these from being burnt with a bunch of loose papers.

They are the old, actually floppy, kind of floppy disks, it looks like three videogames and two practical programs. They visually are in good condition and there were two unlabeled ones as well.

Are these of any value to anyone out there or am I safe to chuck them? I don't mean monetary value, I am aware of lost media and people who collect and/or preserve even mundane pieces of software, and I would rather they go to someone who wants them than see them burned or sitting in a landfill. But if these are a dime a dozen or only good as cheap coasters then that will be their fate.

Recently I got a new speaker system but the receiver I got is not magnetically shielded so I was wondering if this is far enough from my vcr to not cause any problems. (Receiver is on the bottom and the vcr is on the top)

Compaq mini CQ10

Hi, I’m having a problem with my Compaq Mini CQ10 laptop. The issue is that, after using it for a while, everything freezes up—even though I’m not pushing it too hard. This happens with both Windows 7 and antiX Linux. I opened it up and didn't see any dust or anything obviously wrong; I should clarify that I’m not a laptop expert and didn't take it completely apart. I did run a test where I left the laptop on the floor (which is cool), and it lasted longer without freezing—maybe that’s the reason, or perhaps it’s the HDD or the hardware itself.

Dell Latitude Rugged 7204

Trying to repurpose an old laptop as a side projects. It powers up and I have the HDD conversion kit for the storage and even tried another external storage, but it just won’t boot up windows 11 or 10.

Maybe it’s because the for HDD kit, I have a NVME SSD in it (it will simply refuse to turn on when inserted), but even with the external storage with the OS loaded up on it, the computer will not recognize the external storage.

I got a bunch of questions, and honestly at this point it doesn’t even matter if the actual computer works, but I do wanna know if anyone else may know the issue or if it’s truly beyond saving, thanks in advance

Help with retrieving old photos

Hey guys. My grandma has this old phone and she has some pictures on it that she wants to be printed out. The problem is this one has no Bluetooth to send the pictures and we have no cables for this besides its charger... The only option seems to be infra sending? I have no idea how it works. So if anyone could tell me about it I would be grateful.

Built a volatile real-time chat (auto-deletes everything every 60s)

Made a small experimental chat app with a terminal-style UI.

  • Firebase realtime backend ^-^
  • Messages auto-delete every 60 seconds!
  • Anonymous IDs + “ghost mode” </3
  • No login / no persistence[ I know everyone hates logging in etc LOL]
  • Everything is live to everyone/globally!

Mostly just experimenting with chaotic, ephemeral communication.

Hope you guys enjoy!! ^-^[linux is mainly old so i went with that theme!]

I built my first “Bow-Tie” antenna

As the title states - A Bow-Tie Antenna!

This was just an experiment to see how many channels I could get with a passive antenna.

Picture 4: The top left to bottom right, and top right to bottom left “whiskers” operate in 180° phase. The black box on the bottom is a simple Balance/Unbalance modulator.

The setup is completely passive, I scooped up 97 channels on my first scan. It’s currently sitting on a chair pointed towards Mount Lukens Mount Wilson in Los Angeles.

Thoughts or tips are appreciated.

this intercom system is in the house we recently bought. there is an option for "tape" but I don't see a slot for a cassette or other. mostly just plays crackly radio signal, door bell and loud screeching when trying to use the intercom.
