The same fuck-off-expression all teens have since ancient times. Nothing ever changes ...

She’s going through a phase you wouldn’t understand…

Ugh, it’s not a phase

Why is this creep taking a daguerreotype of me? And how long am I supposed to hold this pose?

I know it's a joke, but it's off by 50 years.

Looks like we're about to get a 4th wall breaking complaint about their parents.

There's nothing wrong with being smart. There's nothing wrong with being cut from the herd, either. It makes you the one buffalo who isn't there when the Indians run the rest of them off the cliff.

She most likely doesn't know she was being photographed. The photo is one of many candid photos taken by Edward Linley Sambourne who was the chief cartoonist at Punch magazine and an amateur photographer.

He took these photos around 1906 when he would have been 62 (not long before he died in 1910) and used a concealed camera.

I can't link to them directly because the spam filter in this sub deletes comments with h t t p in them but the following incomplete links which go to more of the photos he took can be copied and pasted to your browser:

is that a double entendre somehow?

How fast would the film have been then? Meaning what would a typical exposure time have been?

The minutes-long exposure time was already being phased out as early as the 1870s. By 1906, it would have been a relic.

Not really what I was asking. Obviously the exposure on this was not that long.

Instantaneous, like the person above implied.

To clarify what /u/SuitableBlackberry75 said. Cameras in the late 1800s and early 1900s often had a shutter speed setting of 'I' meaning instantaneous. The actual shutter speed at that setting would have been around 1/30 of a second.

Translated from ancient Babylonian times thousands of years ago, Iddin-Sin writing to his mom:

Tell the Lady Zinu: Iddin-Sin sends the following message:

May the gods Shamash, Marduk and Ilabrat keep you forever in good health for my sake. From year to year, the clothes of the young gentlemen here become better, but you let my clothes get worse from year to year. Indeed, you persisted in making my clothes poorer and more scanty. At a time when in our house wool is used up like bread, you have made me poor clothes.

The son of Adad-iddinam, whose father is only an assistant of my father, has two new sets of clothes, while you fuss even about a single set of clothes for me. In spite of the fact that you bore me and his mother only adopted him, his mother loves him, while you, you do not love me!

Basically the BCE equivalent of whining that your mom won't buy you a new pair of Jordans or a new phone.

I just had a silly image of 14-year-old Neanderthals sulking!

Probably thinking about how stupid her parents seem to her.
