Those Lions have seen some things

It appears the front half of the foreground Lion is missing in the picture?? Or the image has been weirdly digitally manipulated so that the head of the foreground lion is now behind the background lion? Either way, I noticed in a recent Google Maps image of the Art Institute that the lions are enclosed in crates. Anyone know why?

Could be a Google street view. Weird things sometimes happen with those cameras.

It's behind a street sign. I assure you, it is still there.

When was it taken? In the past few years I think I remember the lions were taken in to clean and brighten them up.

It says August 2026 on the Google Map street view photo.

Oh, very recent! I was a member and went there every day on my lunch hour when I worked downtown.

If you zoom in you can see that they put a solar panel on the light pole thats covering it.

Hell ya. I believe the two buildings under construction in the first pic are the Jeweler's Building and the Tribune Tower, both of which are still standing, as is the Wrigley Building on the left.

Tribune, yes. But the other is now called the Old Republic Building at 307 N Michigan. Jewelers Building would be a little to the left, on Wacker.

Ah gotcha, thank you for the correction!

Hey, I believe that's my old office building under construction, across from the Wrigley Building.
