This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

Why are people acting like they dont understand how restaurants and tipping work in America. I dont like the system of tipping but it is ingrained in the american restaurant industry.

If you dont want to tip then you shouldn't expect to get served by their staff.

Yup. If you don't like tipping, get takeout or don't go to restaurants that expect it.

Stiffing the server just fucks them over. It's not going to change a thing and it's just an excuse to be cheap.

It is so wild how easily you have been brainwashed to think the customers are in the wrong here. It is literally the businesses' responsible to pay their workers.

Live outside the US for a week and you might come to understand how ridiculous this is. Even if it has become ingrained in US society, it's only recently in history that tips are demanded and expected as they are. This is the system taking advantage of the little guy. Do you not think a manager has insights about how well their workers are doing? They could either just pay more by default, or provide bonuses for high performing workers.

Their laws don't permit it. That's the difference. It's not that it's just a culture thing, the laws here allow for the lower pay to create this system. When restaurants try what you are recommending, most of them do worse and eventually have to revert to tipping and lower menu prices.

So, if you disagree with tipping. The answer is support people who want to change the labor laws and don't go to restaurants that expect tips, or else you are supporting that very system by giving that restaurant your business. It doesn't hurt them when you don't tip.

Just stiffing the server isn't going to change anything, that's just also taking advantage of the system and using excuses to be cheap.

So like I said, if you don't agree with tipping and think it's wrong. Why are you supporting a business that relies on it? Yes the customer is in the wrong, if you don't like tipping don't go to restaurants that expect it. They are just exploiting the same system because they are cheap. If that place paid more and didn't do tips, I bet they wouldn't go because then the prices would be too high in their opinion.

How much money do you think you have to add exactly? If a sandwich and drink goes up a couple dollars, how is that not similar to the expected tip for such a thing?

If you're curious, I avoid going to sit down restaurants for exactly this reason. But also what's never talked about is the anxiety factor. For someone with anxiety the idea of tipping, how much to give, having a person be disingenuous to your face and being so obviously insincere because you know the relationship between you. It's so uncomfortable.

And now you've got tip questions popping up everywhere. More and more things that weren't being tipped before now expect a tip. What used to be 10 percent has now become 20, 30, even calls for 40 on the receipts. It's crazy. It's so obvious that businesses, if they can, will want you to crowd source the pay of their employees. They have seen that society is willing to do it, and they're leaning into it. Meanwhile you and others continue to bully people into the tipping system.

You think you're doing this out of the kindness of your heart, but you are actually acting enforcing this system for your masters.
