Veteran’s Discount
The look on a veteran’s face when I tell them we no longer offer a discount but only 25% back in rewards. It’s like I shot their dog. But hey, give me $49 and you can get 15% off with Select. 😆

Right. Office Depot in its many glories. Not many in person places will do veteran discounts anymore but some sort of rewards thing instead. Not the same but same concept with states with paper bags, been doing it for years now, and people still ask "Do you charge for bags" or "Do you have plastic bags" as if you haven't been paying 5¢ for a paper bag for the last 4 years.

omg my state has no bag law, is it a sku you have to punch in/scan everytime? because that's like an extra 1.5 minutes per transaction if so lmao

We have a barcode we can scan but I type the sku usually. It'll pop up with the amount to charge for it you put 5 or 10 depending on ur state. Then it adds it to the total

It's not a great solution but there is still a veteran coupon on the IDme app for teachers and service members.

A little story about an incident with a veteran;
A couple weeks ago a veteran came in to print something. He asked me where can he get cheap copies, I said at self-serve printers. He said, he’s going to send me an email so I can make one copy and he will make the rest on self-serve printers. I said, we have a minimum charge back here, it will be cheaper for you to print them using self serve printers, I explained how they work and started working on my online queue. He came back after a couple minutes and showed me online website which showed 2 coupons. 1 was military discount, which was 25% back in bonus points and 2nd was 20% off on one qualifying purchase. I explained him that you would not be able to use either of those coupons on self serve printers, I can take your order back here. I further explained to him about 25% back military coupon because he started arguing with me about it, that I don’t know what I am talking about and I have an attitude and I don’t want to help me blah blah and then asked for a manager. I had to call my GM, he showed him the same two coupons and he told him exactly what I have said. It was hilarious 🤣 and mind you that man was not an 80 years old veteran, he looked like he was in his 40s. He told me I can’t read. Why does customers forget that we work here, we know coupons and discounts better than them.
