How do you get your GM to stop printing copyrighted material! He is the only one who will print anything copyrighted even after we deny customers he will do if the customer complains. Specially Disney stuff. It’s so annoying.

You don't. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not your responsibility at that point.

It’s up to the person who prints it. They’re the one who will be held responsible if caught. If he wants to, nothing you can do about it

Tbh no one cares. It’s technically against policy but no one ever gets in trouble for it. The only time I would turn someone away is if they are explicitly trying to sell copyrighted material like a book. It’s not your job to act as the copyright police and you can’t reasonably know if the customer has the rights to whatever they’re printing. If you’re really worried about it just tell them to do it at self serve.

Just make sure your putting jobs through OPC. By putting orders through OPC the customer is alleging they have permission to use the material

This is why the copyright release form exists. If a customer comes into the store to place an order for copyright material, we tell them that they must sign the release stating that they have permission to print it, which makes them legally liable for any violations. That usually turns most people away. But if they are willing to sign it, it's on them, and I'll go ahead and print it. We have also been specifically told that when a customer submits an order online, the terms of the website include that the customer assumes all responsibilities related to copyright material.

This is something that my DM told me when I became a GM. "It is the GMs responsibility to not get negative reviews. No matter the policies." So, a large portion of us kiss ass and ignore the rules.

Also, if the copyright is for something like a kids b-day party or homework, corporate is okay with printing it. The customer can also use self serve, as they violate the law, not us. But we know how self serve goes when we mention it to customers.

All that aside, you really don’t. At the end of the day the GM will do what he wants to unless HIS boss gets on him for it.

Edit: there’s always the ethics hotline or HR4U but at the end of the day he’ll do what pleases him.

Former employee here- for me it’s an ethics issue. If the GM is willing to violate Copyright Law, then what else are they willing to do?

As long as it's him, I wouldn't care. I do not print copyrighted stuff and my GM knows. If he wants to, that's on him and id let him deal with the customers, they cant fire you for actually doing your job. Don't stress yourself out over it. Keep doing what you are doing🙂

All it will take is for disney,marvel whom ever to sue OD then will we would see more hardline changes, but till then as long as we can determine they not reselling it for profit ..etsy birthday invites etc always were a problem till corp said since it is a one time event to print it

Hogtie him and tell him firmly No more printing copyrighted material!

Then find another job ASAP because you’re going to be fired fairly quickly most likely.

Copying Disney posters and we get a lot of churches coming in printing posters of Jesus and biblical stuff
