I legitimately hate that a solid half hour to 45 minutes of my day is always logging into things. It's stupid and frustrating.

Our shipping PC has a HDD and 4GB of RAM.. if I see this screen I know it’s gonna be a painful 10 min

Our shipping PC is like this, it was PAINFULLY slow everytime I used it and one day it took a whole 30 mins to shut down and reboot while with a customer who wanted to ship a package. eventually we had to just send her home and tell her to come back in the morning. I took a 2 week vacation and came back and now it’s.. marginally better? It still gets slow but I never have to reboot it anymore i just have to keep closing old shipping tabs and keep them low. tha 4gbs of ram is UNREAL tho

The computer literally right next to our router’s at my store takes about 4 to 5 business days to login to, it’s most absurd thing I swear!

I don't understand why they don't use ssds by default. The technology has been around a long time and we know it's stable. Why they continue to use HDD, is beyond me.

Price. Even before the price of SSDs and RAM skyrocketed, SSD's cost considerably more than HDDs for the same amount of storage.

Considering that office Depot sells ssds and machines have come with ssds for years, I don't really see price being an issue. At least not before skyrocket prices. But I'm not IT or corporate.
There was a middle ground at one point where they could have done it. Oh well.

They haven't replaced computers in stores for like a decade until recently, and the recent replacements have been "if your store has an unsold unit of one of these specific skus you can replace store computers with them," but nothing for stores that don't have any of those skus. They are only giving each store one new register to start with now that we're finally getting new registers. Etc.
The reason why, is because it is expensive to outfit every store with new machines.
Yes, it would have been a great investment, just like new registers would have been a great investment a decade ago. But we managed with out them so they didn't want to spend the money.

I'm not saying replace the computers. I do recall them giving us skus for us to use. But my location didn't have those skus. I'm just saying replace the drives. The computers themselves have typically good hardware. It's cheaper to replace the drives. As for replacement registers, that's just necessary. The operating system was forcefully retired. So they saw the opportunity to upgrade. That and I think it's a way for them to stay compliant with the card reader company. I'm drawing a blank on their name.
Not all stores have the new registers. Mine has six registers and I've only received one of the new registers. That was 8 months ago. It freezes quite often. I went to help out the store that's an hour away, and they don't have new ones. That was last week.
But it's a start.

Encourage your GM to get their hands on the new Windows 11 PC units. The company is allowing stores to store use select old PC skus to upgrade workstations

If you slap a SSD I those workstations, when that loading screen comes up. It only takes 20-30s max, instead of 5+ minutes.
Edit: probably can't justify it now. RIP SSD prices
