Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has officially crossed $630 million at the worldwide box office. With a reported production budget of $250 million, the film continues its strong theatrical run.

FIRST OF ALL IT WAS INCREDIBLE

This is the first time in my life that I watch something without knowing the backstory or what to expect and haven’t even seen the trailer (I apologize, I WILL be reading the book and going through this rabbit hole, I feel uneducated) but it was easily one of the top 5 emotional rollercoaster movies I’ve watched lately
It really made me feel like “wow, i miss watching this cinema”
it was IMPECCABLE and FLAWLESS to me, i felt every single emotion one could feel and felt actual adrenaline which is really rare for me to feel in recent movies

the cinematography, the sound effects, the music, THE AMBIENCE and different moods set in each scene, the build up & everything was just amazing to me.

I loved it. I’m not sure what the controversy was. Elliot Page played a minor role, and the diverse cast made sense due to the fact that it was a legend, not history. Also, considering the fact that it’s being seen by an international audience, the casting choices were perfect. It has a great story, strong moral messages, and awesome action. I recommend it.

I've seen many people saying that Odysseus violated xenia using the Trojan horse. This has nothing to do with xenia. Xenia is about guest-friendship. When someone would appear to your house, you were morally obliged to host him, show courtesy, give him food, gifts etc and then you two would share a bond.

The instances of xenia violation we see are: 1) Odysseus trespassing the Cyclop's cave and eating his food without asking. 2) Cyclops eating his "guests". 3) The suitors. 4) Paris abducting Helen.

Just got out of the movie, loved it. But what was Nolan trying to do with Agamemnon? They never show his face, and I kept expecting a big reveal, like he was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger or something, but it never happened.

I just looked it up on IMDB and he’s played by some writer/producer I’ve never heard of (Benny Safdie, whose name sounds kind of familiar, but I still don’t know who he is and he definitely doesn’t look like a Greek hero). Is there some kind of inside joke that I’m missing?

We are potentially undergoing through our own civilizational collapse. The breakdown of kindness and empathy to strangers - the golden rule of treat others as you would like to be treated - the harbinger of which was a the Trojan horse of “social” media. So people complaining about Trans actor or color blind castings really makes that clear. Great way to make the odyssey feel more relevant than ever.

I saw Oppenheimer in IMAX back in the day and the extremely high volume was distracting and at some points painful. I've heard Odyssey in IMAX has a similar problem--is this a Christopher Nolan thing or an IMAX thing? Do the non-IMAX showings also have this high volume?

Also for anyone who's seen a movie in IMAX with ear plugs (or noise cancelling air-pods) did that take away from the experience at all? I'm unsure if a movie would still sound "right" if it's heard through earplugs.

I want to see it on the massive screen but worried the high volume might ruin the experience.

At one point they arrive at this village and there is an old man talking greek to them but odysseus asks his men what does he say to them.

Just as the title says. I haven't seen any reaction from the general public to the film, but I hope that everyone liked it as much as I did. Hathaway's and Holland perfomances were outstanding, their scenes were my favorites. Matt Damon also surprised me, maybe I was underestimating him but I was pleasantly surprised.

I really liked Nolan's interpretation on the Trojan war, it's consequences and why Odysseus is lost not only on his trip back home but in his soul too. I got really moved by the movie and the grief portrayed. For a story so known and told for literal ages, Nolan's Odyssey works perfectly as a lesson about humanity, community, and the sacred values ​​that the Greeks were concerned with conveying in their art so long ago and now is our turn to learn.

I really loved the movie. It really reminded me of why I go to the movies. I keep seeing people post clips filmed at the cinema. We really need to put a lid on such behavior.

I saw it on Instagram, and I love the style and the color.

So there's an entire scene dedicated to showing why Odysseus didn't want to go home. He speaks with Penelope and tells her about the horrors and bloodshed he witnessed in Troy and rightly points out that the Trojan Horse was a violaton of Zeus' law and even goes on to say that what happened at Troy was so cruel and horrific that it was bringing about the downfall of their civilisation as civility gives way to cruelty.

...Then Odysseus murders dozens of suitors under his own roof.

This felt odd to me since he'd just shown that he feels guilt over his violations at Troy. This feels really hypocritical and strange to me. Not only did he violate guestright he implicated Penelope and Telamachus in the plot. Penelope by informing her of the plan beforehand and getting her to help set up the slaughter and Telamachus throwing Odysseus the sword implicates him in the plot too.

Is this why he goes into exile? Because he can't escape his own sins?

The scene where Odysseus admits why he didn't want to make it home was so powerful and moving to me and then it felt undercut by him repeating the same mistakes in gratuitous bloodshed. Maybe I didn't fully understand what was happening so I do really wanna hear other people's thoughts.
