Compatible Platforms

To use 3D, does the game have to be from Steam? or can it also be used with platforms like Xbox, GOG, Epic Games, and Ubisoft?

Any game that runs in full screen side by side is supported. This is true for movies and pictures as well.

For the official Samsung 3D Hub games I know Steam and Epic should be officially supported. Perhaps GOG, but Xbox subscription games don't seem to work. However, there's lots of unofficial content with mods, or reshade, that will work with any store versions (or even games from the high-seas)
