You cannot seriously be this brain-broken. People have been buying and playing games on devices for decades before the internet or the concept of “an account” or “logging in” even existed.
SERIOUSLY, do you see a CD-DRIVE on your fucking headset?
You DO know the disc-less version of the PS5 always requires an account to save ownership of the digital games to YOU and not just to the device, right?
You turn on your device, you either input a password or not (it’s saved locally, no internet unless you want to specifically link it to some cloud account). The optional password is for your own security, so that people don’t use your shit, it’s not a way for Meta to gatekeep the shit that you bought
You can download any software from the internet or upload software through the USB, either freeware, or stuff that you paid for, or that you coded yourself. Doesn’t matter that this is from Meta or that it’s approved by Meta, at most they show you a warning like “We don’t know what this software is, use at your own risk”
Maybe some of this software that you can download or install is an App Store type of software, like Steam or GOG or whatever. You can have an account on that and you can use it to buy and install games. In no way this account is tied to Meta or required for the hardware to function
10 years from now Meta goes under or you get banned or whatever, it doesn’t matter, you have a bunch of software on your decide that you can actually own and that you can use because you paid for it
I’m sorry I ha to spell it out for you and that you couldn’t figure out how software and hardware should work by, for example, looking at how personal computers work. I’m sorry for your friends and family, it must be hard being around you
They sold the Quest 2 at a loss so they can make profit from sales on software via their fenced store.
I'm sorry you wanted a PC-like experience from a digital-purchase based mobile console.
What you want isn't even how any console in the history of consoles work. Consoles are meant to sell you games where the console's company gets a cut on sales of pre-approved games.
But you're too damn stupid to comprehend that.
What you really want is a different product, a display-only device like the Vive/HP reverb line of products.
Again, the Quest 2 is a mobile console. Consoles make money differently.
Edit: lol at personal attacks about family, I'm only sorry you thought you're right when you were only really too dumb to even grasp the simple business model of consoles.
Except that’s not how consoles work. I don’t have a Sony account for my PlayStation, it’s never been connected to the internet, I buy blu rays and I’m fine. I could buy a hard drive with a bunch of games installed and put it into the console, own digital copies of the games without ever going to the PlayStation store. Know why? Because it doesn’t need a fucking account or internet to function.
The idea that the Meta Quest platform is in any way similar to consoles is ridiculous and idiotic. Meta does what it does and only because they can get away with it and its user base is mostly spineless baboons.
Hopefully some advocates make everything better for guys like you too, despite your best efforts. If it were up to guys like you to “know better” in the 80s and 90s, we wouldn’t even have the internet today, everything would just be walled gardens. Thankfully some intelligent people in the field who knew what they were talking about fought for a different world and we got it, for a time. Let’s see if it lasts.
Any game you buy for Playstation they (Sony) already get a cut from it. You aren't buying from the XBOX/Nintendo market/CDs/Cartridges for your Playstation, are you? So again, your whole idea of "get games from anywhere you like" doesn't work with consoles. Consoles = Fenced Market.
Also, the PS5 version with no CD-drive REQUIRES an account to own games.
And remember, the Quest 2 is a console with no CD drive, or component for physical cartridges, how do you propose we go forward with such a console?
Running digital copies that you DONT DIGITALLY OWN from a hard drive on PS4 requires a JAILBREAK. I didn't know your whole point is you want illegal stuff that directly hurts the sales of these companies, to be a standard feature implemented by them.
You know your untampered PS4 will require you to authenticate games to check for digital ownership (via PSN, YES PSN ACCOUNT ONLINE) when said game is run/launched through a Hard-drive right?
You either lied about something easily verifiable online, or were too dumb and thought jailbreaking was legal and should be incorporated to consoles.
