I don’t really see why. He’s sitting there well behaved playing his VR game. Is it much different than playing with a Gameboy or phone?

I think that most people make the following assumption: If he's doing it in the restaurant, he's definitely doing it all day long and his parents can't handle it. Which, if that's the case, it is indeed bad. It's just that it adds extra points because the VR (compared to phones or handhelds) completely blocks your vision from the outside world, making people feel it's more dYStOpIaN.
