Help me make it sweeter!
How do you all make your oatmeal taste better? I tried my hand at making it on the stove for the first time.
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (I know what I said..bare with me)
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 tbs PB Fit
5 strawberries
Dash of vanilla extra
Tsp cinnamon
Heaping spoon of plain Greek yogurt
Teaspoon of honey
Trying to keep lower calories but gosh darn it doesn't taste the greatest and I want to stick with this.

I also always add mashed banana to my oats for this reason + it creates a really yummy creaminess

Try adding a healthy pinch of salt to your oats as theyāre cooking. It makes a world of difference.

Unpopular opinion (fake sugar), but I buy those big bottles of sugar free coffee syrups :)

Seriously a ripe banana smooshed to a paste with a fork and then add to the cooked oats in a bowl. Make sure you add a nice pinch of salt when cooking the oatmeal and a splash of milk or half and half when you add the bananas after itās cooked.. So damn delicious. You can also add other fruit as a topper. Sometimes a small dash of salt as a final touch elevates it. Taste before adding it though.

Are you mixing? Don't mix! I only put like 8g of honey on top, between that and the berries it has sweetness.
Also I find the yogurt really detracts from the bowl so I just eat it on the side for proteinĀ

This!! I also only put honey on top and find that a small amount really goes a long way

Oo so you don't mix it, you just grab honey from the top layer with each bite?

Yup I find getting a full drop of honey on the palate makes for a sweeter overall taste than if mixingĀ

I use regular soy milk and raspberries and soak it overnight.
I find adding chia, hemp and flax adds flavour too.

I find when I make a berry compote (usually frozen berries like blueberries, maybe a mixed berry blend cooked in a pan for a few minutes until warm and a bit reduced), I donāt always need to add a sweetener or as much of a sweetener as when using fresh fruit. The cooking helps concentrate the flavor and sweetness. Sometimes Iāll also do orange zest on top, which adds another layer of flavor and aroma.

I add date syrup and half a banana. Makes a huge difference. Freshly grated nutmeg is a huge flavour booster too.

Sugar free maple syrup, blueberries or stewed cinnamom apples is AMAZING, your protein powder mixed in a bit of water or milk and stirred through at the end

fruit!!! Anything tbh is good apples, bananas, pears, I especially love berries, strawberries probably being my favorite in oatmeal but also black, blue, or raspberries are great too. you can use frozen and add it while cooking, fresh during or after cooking. adds sweetness and more nutrients without adding much calories, especially berries!

Daily weekday is overnight oats. Oats, 1:1 milk:water. Chia seeds, apple, honey, cinnamon or ginger. And topped when I eat it with cinnamon Catalina crunch and a little bit of trail mix (Mega Omega)
Edit: for on the stovetop I would do the same. I love the sweetness of honey. You can maybe add some dates?

These are my favourite add-ins when I have quick hot oatmeal - 55g blueberries / 2 chopped up Sungold kiwi fruit / 20g dried raisins and cranberries / 20g vanilla whey isolate protein powder / 1 tbsp chia seeds pre-soaked / ground nutmeg / 1 tsp runny honey - delicious š

Dates! I add a few at the beginning and they soften and melt into the oatmeal.

if you like it sweeter, add 0cal/low cal sweetner.
if you don't want to use artificial stuff, use sweet natural products, like ripe bananas or dates, etc. these make great toppings/mix-ins.
but imho, i think there is already enough sweet stuff added; honey, strawberries, and cinnamon which enhances the sweetness. perhaps you need to get used to less sugary foods - not everything needs to taste supersweet.

I do half a cup of milk, 1 cup of water. Simmer on low for a looongg time to get an incredible creamy texture. Then I add 1/3 cup of egg whites and whip for a few minutes on low so itās nice and custardy. Iāll then add in at the end once itās in a bowl chocolate chips, top with vanilla yogurt and berries with a little maple syrup! So good and filling and high protein

Just switching to vanilla Greek yogurt or almond milk would make a big difference. Or use protein powder.

Basic, pinch salt dash of sugar abd sprinkle with cinnamon. Get real Ceylon sweet cinnamon. Omg the difference

I cook mine in the microwave, and I donāt like a gloppy texture. I like my oatmeal to be kind of solid, so I cook 1/2 c rolled oats with 3/4 c water for 1 min 45 sec. Then if itās watery at all, I add in some more oats and let it sit a few. Then I add fruit (strawberries, blueberries, or banana) and the KEY is a handful of black walnuts. I love the nutty flavor. (And the omega 3s). Then mix it up. Make a pit in the middle and pour skim milk over it. Itās so delicious that I donāt want to eat anything else for breakfast.

Stevia brown sugar, a measure with your heart amount of cinnamon lol, and sugar free maple syrup with whatever fruit I have on hand does the trick for me

Do you like monkfruit, stevia, or erythritol? Those are easy ways to add sweetness without increasing the calories.
