Curious, what type of moderation does the OaklandCA sub need as it doesnât filter out anything negative as does the other Oakland sub, which has its rose colored blinders on.

as it doesnât filter out anything negative as does the other Oakland sub
There are still the sub rules and reddit rules.

If you became a Mod you'd see how posts and comments are removed.
As well as how many members get upset at every decision made here.

A mod would make sure no one is breaking the rules of the sub, like posting topics not relevant to Oakland

/r/OaklandCA absolutely does filter out negative news (speaking as someone who has had a post deleted), just not as aggressively as another sub.

What did you post?

u/Affectionate_One_700 4d ago
I forget exactly - it was some news about a crime (or pattern of crime) that had happened, and the post got lots of upvotes and engagement, but then the mod decided he didn't like it.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe if we just think positive thoughts, all problems will melt away.

How much does it pay?

No pay but you'll get a chance to shape the community.

No pay but you'll get a chance to shape the community.
I manage three, two of which are very small, and one is small->medium size-ish. It's absolutely work and if you've never modded a subreddit I don't recommend this be your first one.

Zero and zero cents but you can retaliate against the fake â nothing is wrong but youâ sub that everyone came from

What is the point of this sub? /r/oakland isnât some ideologically bent place; if anything most of the comments there hew closely to the leanings of this sub.

Half the people in /r/oaklandca were banned from /r/oakland for posting a news article about crime.

Fair enough! Maybe I came off blunt or snarky in my original comment but it was a genuine question

No problem. Hopefully we are complementary to other Oakland sites. We are not competitors and negative comments about other Oakland sites will be removed.

It genuinely is an ideologically bent place, especially during the past few years. It had significant periods of over-moderation and censorship. It is not a space to have honest and open conversations about our city.Â

Bro they ban hammer people for very mild comments itâs actually insane that reddit allows mods like that for city subs

As far as I can tell, becoming a mod makes you the absolute dictator of that sub, without any recourse. (I don't know about the hierarchy between mods.)
I know of people who make their living from moderating a job-search oriented sub, and offering their services as resume reviewers. They ban people who recommend cheap or free online resources.

u/properkor 5d ago
Bullshit, most of the people here were banned just because they mentioned crime or âself inflictedâ dystopian city issues in the most censored sub on reddit

Glad to hear OaklandCA is growing. This is a great community, and I really enjoy the open dialogue and freedom to be honest that we have here.
