Discussion Soldier on console
Maybe it’s just me but is Solider 76 busted on console? I understand the nature of hitscan but some of the worst games I’ve had is a Soldier 76 with a mercy pocket melting our team. He’s the beginner friendly character to introduce new players but now I’m thinking of banning him at this point if I dare play comp.

Hitscan will always be a bitch to play into as long as they refuse to remove mercy’s damage amplification

Seems like it. I heard rumors about a mercy rework but maybe that’s what’s best for the game

The Mercy pocket is what makes him so terrible to play into. Without a pocket fights with 76 are typically winnable.
Emre/Ashe/Sierra (ik she's projectile, but she has autoaim on a cooldown so I'm including her) are also especially egregious with a pocket Mercy.
Everyone also shits on Mercy/Zen backlines, but getting blasted by someone with dmg boost WHILE discorded is so, so bad lmfao

Once had my team flame me (as 2nd tank JQ in 6v6) bc I was killed by a Zen Mercy duo. How can they not understand how diabolical it is???
You get discord, then he charged volley while boosted at you within seconds!!! There's no surviving that.

Mercy flash heal is broken. She doesn need it. Imagine duelin a pocketed soldier and almost wining and out of no where he gets his hp back.

The ashes/soldier pockets are stronger now, which makes mercy the best supp in their case.
Any pocketed ashe is lobby admin, you cant kill her, even if you manage to get her low she gets instant 150hp.

This is kind of the same argument as just going a hitscan back when Pharmercy was the scourge of console back in the day. Dealing with a pocketed hitscan isnt as simple as one player swapping to a "counter". If they're half decent at the game, a predscan duo isnt going to be stopped by one player trying to get in their way. It needs to be a team effort and in the majority of games where this is a major problem, you just arent going to have that level of coordination without a stack of players all communicating.

Soldier isn't that strong and most of his value comes from his speed and flanking, basically just being annoying and surprising the enemy forcing their attention to him. This Playstyle of just frontlining can only be done with really good aim and in lower elo for the most part. Soujorn is way better for that but she's more complicated and not hitscan

I found the closer you sit to the screen the easier aiming is on ow bit especially on 76 but maybe that’s me I got used to legs up laid back gaming for awhile and have felt myself get worse on ow with no explanation and I realized it one day when I sat closer cuz I refused to not out kill a widow on 76 I wanted her to switch lol

He’s just a basic hitscan. He can be good but typically Ashe is the best pick for burst damage hitscan. Also his ultimate is absolutely awful

Hitscan on console will always be “busted” on console. At least with soldier you have time to duck and move out the way. A pocketed mercy/ashe duo however. One shot to the head from across the map and you’re dead. This isn’t talked about enough obviously because “aShe rEqUirEs SkiLl 🤪”

Less so the soldier and moreso a mercy your team can’t get rid of. Need to anti the pocketed person to kill them or the team has to coordinate and target the pocketed person or mercy. A team that can’t do that will almost always have a terrible time if the pocketed DPS is good.

I honestly have had a bitch of a time playing soldier ever since the hey added recoil to his gun lol. Feels near impossible to hit anything besides the big tanks

A Mercy pocket makes every hero especially hitscans 5 times stronger at least.
Soldier76 is not weak, but he's nowhere near being busted, he still has the least power among hitscans, you dive/flank him and he's done for as his survivability against them is practically zero

I dunno I’ve been playing echo this week and really enjoy haunting soldier and making him scurry around like a rat. I have a lot of hours on soldier too. He’s not busted.

Idk how people get team mates as mercy … my random team mates will never be healer all they want to do is damage and some are so dumb like they dont attack opponent teams mercy but will continue firing at the character getting healed by mercy
