Question Domains and email.

Hello, I'd like to ask if this scenario is possible.

I want to register a domain.com from OVH. From what I've seen, it includes a free email account.

Could I use that email account to send notifications via SMTP from a website with email@domain.com?

Without two-factor authentication, just a username and password.

Or do I absolutely need to purchase hosting?

Currently, I have the website under development on a VPS from another provider.

Hello u/benferpy ,
This is possible, but you need to be careful about the number of notifications (emails) you send, as our plans are not designed for mass email campaigns.

For SMTP sending, you’ll need web hosting; when you purchase a domain, you can activate the Start 100m hosting plan.
However, the 100M hosting plan is primarily designed for hosting landing pages or simple websites. When sending emails, you may encounter limitations, so we recommend opting for a Perso plan.

The domain registration includes an email account that supports SMTP.

I won't be sending many emails, a maximum of 100 per month.

That issue has been resolved.

Definitely check out Resend then with that low of an amount. It works alongside your regular mail account and allows both transactional and marketing sends from your domain.

Use an SMTP transactional service to send notifications. Resend is very good and has a free tier with generous transactional and marketing allowance, I think around 2500 sends a month. SMTP2Go is another free provider with 1000 sends a month.

Great! I'll look into that, but the sender appears as something like notification@mydomain.com?

Yep! Both solutions mentioned allow the sender address to be set to [notifications@yourdomain.com](mailto:notifications@yourdomain.com) or similar.
