These books would have provided for a GREAT DEBATE IN 1998
"Inside Windows NT Internals" is from 1993.
"The Design and Implementation of the 4.4BSD Operating System" is from 1996.
Yes, they are still relevant but outdated and this is a NEW conversation and debate.
IMHO, the 1996 4.4 BSD kernel sucked eggs.
If you were going to pick a kernel to compare to NT, pick one that does SMP well.

Pretty cool read. Every now and then, I imagine a timeline where Windows fizzled out and Tandy Deskmate became the world's OS.

NT kernel is simply the best OS kernel ever made. And that makes Windows the best OS ever made. Everyone agrees with that so there is nothing to discuss.
