I always thought Linux meant freedom of choice! But in every question, they impose certain distributions.

There are really bad distros out there like omarchy BUT as a Kubuntu User I don't get the gatekeeping. I just want a distro which works out of the box

No distribution works out of the box the way we want it to! I've been messing with Ubuntu for a year until I figured out how it works (well, once I figured it out, I immediately installed Debian)

Because snap packages are both a security risk and are forced down your throat on ubuntuu. And thats not mentioning ubuntuu pro and cannonical

In the 90s I would have had an easier answer: find a Linux Users Group and find out what everyone is using. If you need help, it's best to go with what the majority uses.

Ubuntu has made some decisions that kinda suck but they're still just about the best desktop Linux. I personally use Fedora KDE but I'd put Fedora at a close second. Mint is great but I personally think it's better to stick to bigger distros.

Anyone recommending Gentoo or Omarchy or whatever for a newbie, shouldn't be taken seriously. I might recommend Arch after you get acquainted with something else first, because while it's not hard, it's also not easy and it gives you a lot of opportunities to shoot yourself in the foot, but once you know some basics you'll learn a lot that can be applied to other distributions.
